The signal corps tower figures will make useful alternate command figures potentially. Always good as objectives

Moving the signal tower?
@richardbradley2335
@richardbradley2335 Год назад
Using the signal tower as a moveable command base ...is that was meant..or to be a stationary command bases ??
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
Ah I assumed he meant just using the figures on a command base, not moving the whole tower.

The Red Cross on a white background was created at the 1864 Geneva Convention. I don't know of it's use in the ACW, but I haven't specifically searched for it.

Yep so it seems, I’ve been chatting with another commenter about this. I wonder if they’ve added it without realising, or confused images they’ve worked from. I’ll probably file mine off.

Great Vid! would you consider doing a painting Tutorial of Epic Napoleonic Imperial Guard?

@MiniatureRealms Год назад
Thank you 🙂. I made a start on one for the guard, lost some footage sadly, so I’ll have to re-record, I still plan to do it one day.

Great review! The ambulance model got my curiosity up, so I pulled out some books from my reference library. I'm quite doubtful if Civil War ambulances ever actually had that medical "Red Cross" symbol and if it was ever actually seen in the field during the war. The symbol itself was established in 1863/64 in Europe I believe. But I don't think a universal medical symbol like that was ever adopted during the Civil War. Now to be sure, both sides did have forms of various "Ambulance Corps" that were with the armies. But to my knowledge neither side ever adopted any sort of official badge or symbol to mark uniforms or transports. Now another twist to this is that it appears that Warlord games did a bit of misguided research on this. They probably saw in a reference book a typical Union army supply wagon that coincidentally had a Union Army SIXTH CORPS badge on it. Which just happened to be a St. Andrews Cross. And it so happened that the First Division badge color was RED. To add further possible confusion, Union army corps badges for all army corps were red for First Division, white for Second Division, and blue for Third Division, and as I said previously, for the 6th Corps it was a St. Andrews Cross, sometimes straight and sometimes leaning to one side. So somebody at Warlord saw a 6th Corps, First Division corps badge on a period transport vehicle in a vintage photo possibly, and thought it was a medical symbol, which it is not. The other problem with the model is that it's not an ambulance. That is much closer to the design of a typical army supply wagon. Which means in summary, this is actually a model of a Sixth Army Corps, First Division supply wagon. Now of course that doesn't mean that the armies didn't improvise and use whatever transports they could get after a huge battle. I just don't know how prevalent it was to use army supply wagons to transport wounded, particularly on the Union side.

Yeah it was something discussed a lot at release, as it was with the later ranges. They definitely went for aesthetic over practical frontage.

I think we will continue to see smaller releases like this as the ranges get fuller. P&S has some more bits soon as well.

Plenty of Union soldiers wore slouch hats even in the Army of the Potomac, memoirs mention it, and orders kept being issued forbiding it so it must of been a fairly common practice.

@MiniatureRealms Год назад
Yep they absolutely did, but I can understand some people wanting the option to not have them. I don’t mind too much personally, but I would certainly purchase an alternative sprue if they produced one.

Just in case anyone reading this doesn't want to go through my long-winded post below: That transport model is actually not a Union army Civil War "ambulance." It's a Sixth Army Corps, First Division supply wagon. The St. Andrews Cross is not a medical symbol, it's the corps badge for the Sixth Corps, First Division, which was red.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
That’s really interesting Mike, Warlord are definitely calling it an Ambulance on their website and very much so in the description. Have they added the Red Cross by mistake, thinking it was something else do you think? Sorry I can’t see your other comment, it’s hidden from me in my app and in general, did you post a link or something, looks like RU-vid might have removed it (definitely wasn’t me).
@miketike3246

I removed the external link from the other comment, I'll try to post it again. I explain in that what I think happened at Warlord. I mean it's not a huge deal in terms of the overall scheme of things. But my historical OCD got the better of me when I saw it, lol.@@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Год назад
That’s all right, just wanted you to know as I don’t think anyone would have seen what you’re referring to. Have you seen the description on their website, do you think they’ve basically copied the wagon from the wrong image, or just added the cross where is shouldn’t be?
@miketike3246
@miketike3246 Год назад
I think that because the Red Cross is such a universally recognized medical symbol, Warlord assumed that medical wagons must have had them during the Civil War. Now I could be wrong, there may very well be a reference somewhere to some units using it as the symbol for the Ambulance Corps. But in all my years of reading and research, I've never seen it used on a Civil War medical transport or as a symbol on a medic's armband, etc. You don't really see the Red Cross symbol being used on medics' uniforms until at least WWI and WWII. @@MiniatureRealms
