In many ways, scandinavian and japandi styles were bringing this soft minimalism to the table. Layering and natural materials with soft color tones were there. I really enjoy all your videos and learn so much from them. I'm not into home design as a professional, but I think it's so essential for our health! thank you for bringing this content !

I discovered the hard way that I prefer warm neutrals and grounding materials. In traditional minimalism, my body feels cold (unconsciously) and uninspired. Everyone’s different. I love traditional minimalism in magazine photos it looks gorgeous. But for my home, warm warm warm.

Thank you, Raynard! I look forward to every one of your valuable videos. They are always, as good design is, simple, clear and cohesive. This one is the best ever. I’ve puzzled over my own style for years: love the simple lines of minimalism, but warm, organic elements say comfort, and I’ve tried to incorporate both in my home. Your eight elements are a guide to creating a cohesive, purposeful approach. So inspiring! I’m also using these principles in a packaging design project. Thank you. Amazing again.

Minimalism is seen as a 20th century interior movement but l'd argue that ancient Sparta in Greece was famous for simplicity and functionality across all spheres of life. Warm minimalism palette was also how ancient Spartans decorated: earth tones, pottery, stone, wool, flax and greenery. Hence, the term 'spartan' to describe spaces without decoration and quantity of possessions.

I consider myself a minimalist because I keep only what I love and what is useful. I don't have a lot of excess. I like the look of warm minimalism but I like vibrant colours too much to set my home up that way. Cream coloured walls - yes. But only because that allows me to play with lots of different vibrant colors in my furniture and decor.

I’ve always wanted to know: in these warm minimalist interior designs, can we add a classic recliner alongside these soft sofas (4:38) without ruining the design? Can you make a video about it? Maybe a design challenge to make it look good. It’s great because there are people who love their recliners and maybe even game on it in the living room, while still wanting to have sofas for the rest of the family to sit. Can you do that without ruining the aesthetic?

Another good video my man. This is definitely my style inspo! What would you say the difference is between 'soft/warm minimalism' vs. 'organic modern'? They seem VERY similar so would be interesting to see what you think separates them
@reynardlowell
@reynardlowell Год назад
Yes, both can be quite similar. I'd say main difference is with 'organic modern', it borrow cues from bohemian style as well, and can be stretched further to spaces that may feel a bit more "maximalist". I think this is a good opportunity to point out (as I have in many of my videos): when designing or decorating, not to be too bogged down on the terminology, but to gather a visual board that represent the overall look. Many spaces captured online or in magazines today are a combination of many different styles.

@doctordonnanoble
@doctordonnanoble Год назад
To be blunt, no style is forever. I think it's best to style your home based on your personal tastes rather than following a defined style or trend, this way no matter what happens you will love spending time in your home for the next 10-20 years.
@reynardlowell
@reynardlowell Год назад
Completely agree with the other comment here. Always best to style your home based on your own preference. Having said that, there are definitely elements that makes a home timeless (I have a video on this) - I usually like having the major pieces or foundation to be something more "timeless" and then fill in with trendier or playful pieces (armchair, decor, etc).

I want to create this look for our small apartment Reno. It’s a blank space in a Victorian house. I am creating a white kitchen as space is small but worried too white even if I use warm whites on the glossy ikea white kitchen fronts. How best to approach the wall colours. Currently only have a light grey couch that we need to use.
@reynardlowell
@reynardlowell Год назад
Totally depends but maybe an open shelving in oak somewhere? Panelling on kitchen island facade is another possibility. Warm white (or soft grey) instead of cold white, maybe a finish that is not too glossy (something like low sheen). Accent pieces can also help - timber bar stool, pendant with timber accent or in rattan, greeneries, artwork; even kitchen/tableware like knife blocks, salt pepper grinder, chopping boards, or accessories like linen tea towel hung on a bamboo/timber hook.

They're just bringing back the beige from the 90s and early 2000s, which is ugly AF. This is too much browns. I feel like the creator has created a false dichotomy of you must either have your room completely white and sterile or brown and ugly. Instead, we know we must balance these two extremes together in harmony, that way it feels both warm and welcoming but also sophisticated and clean, but not too much of either.
