When I was a teen I would have been so happy just to spend time with him. Maybe there is a horse loving young adult around you that would come out and spend some time walking and talking to him. Long shot and logistics I know but it would be heaven for both. He needs one of those clowns that you punch and they stand back up :-) He wouldn't feel so lonely maybe. You're a good human CC.
I will definitely keep that in mind. I have the utmost respect for your heart of gold, and for carving a niche for your career path in your own terms during these very difficult times. You are a true inspiration. Like I tell my 24 year old son, the pendulum will swing in your lifetime for sure!
I have a horse so much like Skeletor I bought him at six months and he is now 26 and has never changed he is always playing with something if you lay anything down he will get it and run off with it he is triple A bred and my plan was to train him on barrels but he was so boring to ride you had to tap him every step to keep him going and is always looking around at what else is going on one night I kept hearing this banging metal sound and when I got up he was calming walking around the field with a 20 ft extension ladder around his neck I had left it leaning against the barn and he had run his heat through it nothing scares him I just couldn’t make myself ride him so I use him for anyone to trail ride on him one day I was using my phone and he came up behind me grabbed it from my hand and took off I could tell a hundred stories about him a real pain but love him to death
The ladder really scared me I went to feed and he was coming to the barn trying to trot and dragging the ladder I just knew he was going to go crazy but he was fine with me sliding the ladder up his neck and over his head if anything was going to cause him to go nuts it was me because I was hysterical🫣I can’t keep a fan he pushes the cover in and makes the blades click till it burns the motor up so I put one on the wire in the stall next to him and he pushed the wire until he had the blade clicking he has never sick or injured fortunately 😂
The Skeletor fix!! Thank you. He has such a playful personality. 🥰🐎 Of course, all the horses have their own personalities. It's so nice that they've found themselves in the care of someone who knows what they are doing and is so in tune to their different needs.🐴😃
Observation while watching him play with the tumbleweeds... he'd be sooooooooo easy to clicker train. He's the first horse I've seen who would likely work for a play reward, not just food reward. He reminds me soooooooo much of my Bengal cats. How he needs stuff to keep him mentally occupied or else he creates his own Skeletor games? Yeah, Bengals are the same way. If you don't keep Bengal brains puzzling over things, they WILL create Bengal games to the detriment of house furnishings & decor. 😂 I can tell just from watching him that he would be very easy to shape behaviors, precisely because he's so active and in motion. He'd be able to chain different behaviors, no problem. Even if he does eventually get cleared for riding, he'd make an excellent addition to a horse therapy program... as long as someone knows how to channel his "go" into desired behaviors. I had one cat who used to practice his clicker behaviors on his own, lol. This particular one was an F3 Bengal, 3 generations away from wild. I had chained a whole series together to keep him busy, and the faster he did the sequence, the bigger the jackpot. That silly boy practiced on his own time & I had to keep adding behaviors to the chain.
I have a Skeletor named Bull... He learned how to open gates, chase squirrels, birds anything that made the mistake of getting in HIS pasture! I can't give him or Buddy any feed with sweet anything in it, sweet feed keeps me out of the pasture with them because they will try to run the other away from me so I can only touch one of them. and they don't notice how close they get to me while they do that crap. I had a total knee replacement last year and couldn't get in the lot with them because they wanted chin scratches and belly rubs at the same time. and I was using a walker! They have the horse balls and I have to hunt for them in the ditch or woods when bull kicks them out of the field. good luck with your boy!
Skeletor is like a big puppy playing with his toys 😂 what a personality!! He's fresh and playful and silly ! I love watching him and think he would make a wonderful pasture horse 💋❤️
Skeletor is still my favorite. You made a comment about him needing a teenager. I suggest finding him one who needs the affection of a horse. It would be good for both of them. And you could parlay that into some extra help around the barn. Manure Fork 101, the first step in basic horse care.
Through her teens my daughter exchanged work for riding lessons and eventually teaching basic lessons for more advanced lessons. It was a win/win and I was very proud of her iniative. It can be hard to get the right connections but can really be great for a teen who otherwise wouldn’t have the options. Where distances are large transportation to the barn can be a problem. She would drive her Daddy’s ‘64 Bug once she was sixteen. Another thing that impressed me. I don’t like driving a standard transmission, and she was the only one of our three who drives stick.
@@lilolmecj Thank you for sharing this family story. A young person who can drive a stick shift is rare today. I learned to drive on one. After retirement, I took up trucking driving as a second career. That required a trip to a community college and training to get a Commercial Drivers License, CDL. We had a young woman in the class who could not drive a stick shift. It was tough for her to learn but she did. That was in 05. I am no longer in that industry, but I keep up with it. Big trucks these days are likely to have automatic transmissions and therefore drivers who can't drive a stick. Driving a stick shift is becoming a lost art. I hope there are enough car and truck enthusiasts to keep that skill alive.
@@JTEllis you are welcome, she has tons of moxie! I personally find it very difficult to, but my first driving was a 2 ton truck, it was old, probably 1950s decade, helping my dad haul hay. That is very different than on the street.😸 she will obviously inherit the Bug when her daddy passes. He had it fully restored about ten years ago, it turns heads wherever we go. But people drive so carelessly …a couple of years ago woman, not paying attention, came within inches of hitting us at about forty mph! She was driving a Tahoe, it was terrifying.
Skelly has such a big, happy personality. It makes for such a good companion horse. I'm hopeful you can find a good treatment combo to keep him relatively pain free and living a long happy life. If anyone can do it, you can Clever.
Skeletor is a true character. Lovely guy. A long time ago i was working with an Arabian horse that behaved just like this guy, that horse became to be a really good trick horse in shows and movies.
I had the same thought about a teenage girl who could love on Skeletor, play ball with him, etc. I was one of those girls with a Thoroughbred I rehabbed from a track injury. Walked him on a lead for the first year. But eventually he became healthy and trainable. I know it will be harder with this boy as he might not get to be a horse that can be ridden. But he's so bright, smart, curious and fun, with a little bit of the imp or devil in him. I hope he gets to a comfortable health, and that someone with a nice pasture would enjoy having him.
I bet Skeletor would be great at Liberty training on the days he's feeling well! He seems really smart and awesome with people. Such a handsome boy! Tiny looks beautiful and healthy this winter, too!
lol @ Skelly in time out! You know the phrase "growing pains" is rooted in fact---learned this as a young mother years ago. Of course we forget by the time we're all grown up---but quickly growing bodies can ache for a bit in the joints and bones, can make a child cranky. Like teething pains. You've got a still growing youngster on your hands, in addition to his damage he arrived with and is still healing.
Skeletor might make a terrific trick horse! And I wonder about the idea of backing up motion....it helps build muscle in the hindquarters. Tim Anderson has a halter breed palomino QH mare in for training walking weird (real stiff and she was always pinning her ears when asked to move)in front end. Had magna therapy and found muscles so tight they were pinching nerves and is riding her so and targeting movement to help with those muscles. She is improving...with magna therapy and a ton of walking maneuvers! I like Skeletors personality and hope you can figure out how to help him!! He is still growing....
Skeletor is so much fun to watch, starting my day with a smile! Fixing stuff he breaks, so not fun for you -- but I'm sure he helps! 😅 excited learn about the impact of food & supplements on his behavior. Thanks for another awesome video CC!
Those in your pocket horses are such a mixed blessing - they drive you nuts but you can’t help adoring them. It’s even trickier that he has soundness issues that mean you can’t work him so he has something to think about other than hassling his neighbours and breaking rails. Putting him in with a horse who will school him a bit sounds like a great start.
He reminds me SO much of my guy. They are bright and inquisitive and REALLY need mental stimulation or they find their own "fun". My guys fun almost always included the Vet. Glad he will have someone who can teach him some more herd manners after the thaw.
A 'pasture pet' or 'companion horse' are great options for some rescued, rehabilitated horses who shouldn't be ridden. 😊 I love the names you have chosen like: Stewie, Skeletor, Studman, Nigel, etc. Skeletor must be very smart. He seems to crave mental stimulation.
"Skelator Fix." 😀😀😀 Re Skelator toys: I saw a video of a donkey gifted with a large 'Screaming Chicken.' He loved it. Maybe something like that would help him be amused for a little while. Enjoy your channel so much, CC. Always so thought provoking.
Maybe a hay net would give him something to do. He is an adorable handful! You are a terrific horse mom. Thank you for sharing. Those mountains in the background are stunning!
@@TheCleverCowgirl I should have known!😀Thanks for saying though. Really love your videos. It is so good to see loving kindness as an antidote to all the sad things in the news. Wishing you all the very best.
I have a horse with Skelator’s personality. His favourite toy is a car tire. He rolls it, he throws it, and he carries it in his mouth. It’s heavy enough to take some of the pee and vinegar out of him. Read Pete Ramey’s book on barefoot trimming. You may be able to make him comfortable by modifying your trim till something better comes along.
Skeletor is a HOOT!! He is a great horse to have around!! He loves to play and be just who he is!! From the winter to the summer, Skeletor is a awesome looking equine!!😊
Ahh Skeletor needs stimulation because he's smart. He has the mindset of what they look for in a police or military K9 curiosity, playful and high intelligence. With his injury would strengthening the opposite side help him. Just wondering and yes I love my Skeletor fix because I watch it again and again. I adore all your lovely horses ... Tiny too! 💞 🐈🐎🌹💞
I am a cat lover, and at one time I had 11 house cats. It took most of the time I was home to feed and groom them, clean the boxes and keep up with the vacuuming (they tracked litter and dropped fur all over the house). I didn’t have much time to play with them or pet them. I now have five house cats and two barn cats. This is much more manageable for me. I am also down to two horses (from five) so I am able to do more with the horses besides chores, chores and more chores!
The Clever Cowgirl is more than Clever, and perhaps too modest to have called the channel The Clever and Knowledgeable Cowgirl. I always learn something or hear something that sparks my curiosity and sends me into exploration and learning mode. "SI pain" and the mention of the "bunny hop" caught my ear this time. I found a good article at 'The Horse' titled 'Sacroiliac Joint Pain in Horses.' Worth a mention for those like myself who weren't familiar with it.
He has a great personality, and loves to instigate play with the other boys!! Sounds like you have some good ideas on what to do about his lameness issues. I'm so glad he ended up with you!! Keep these videos coming...can't wait till the next one!!
Always diagnosing, always fiddling with food, treatment, training, experiences. You sure don't have a "tiny brain". New sub working my way through your library old and new. BEYOND impressed. STUNNED! Fascinated by these large (and mini: Nigel!) animals AND by your interactions with them. Total, total STAN! Kudos!
I just adore you and your videos. Watching the horses and listening to your soothing voice always makes me feel better after a hard day. Thank you for making these videos ❤
I love him so much! 🥰 I hope he overcomes his lameness, he has so much energy he would definitely feel more occupied under saddle. Here’s to hoping he gets better 🤞🏻
Thank you for your videos! I find it so enjoyable to watch and learn about Skeletor- )along with all the other fortunate rescues ) he such a particular character. They are all pretty special and it is interesting to learn about how you adjust their nutrition and the “ look fors” to help formulate their rehab plan. I don’t know about the other viewers but I always wish I could give you a helping hand- be one of your “ ranch hands”- rather do that than go to Disneyworld! Thanks again for the excellent equine ( and Tiny!) fix!❤😊
oh man , Skeletor is my most favorite horse alive ever. He is exactly my type in everyway since i grew up with a donkey, pony, and horse. All three were always wanting to play, interact and were so open and honest with what they were thinking , they would go out of their way to explain it. They also knew when i was down and out or happy and thrilled , they would always reach out to me and even cry on days i was so busy as a child and teen i couldn't be with them and they would be out at the fence shouting for me to come out and play. Skeletor reminds me of them and my heart aches for his medical condition all because of being deprived of food for too long. This hurts so much. I know they are not human and also they perceive pain differently than humans for obvious reasons from being animal with thicker stronger everything than humans and survival in the wild - but being human my heart aches for both abused children and adults along side precious hearted animals such as Skeletor. I cannot get angry at the previous owners, could be they fell on hard times and just couldn't think straight to save their lives or Skeletor's life. Thank you Clever Cowgirl for coming to Skeletor's rescue that he can at least know the love of a human being and know what a good existence can be like. Kudos to you!
Skelator is like a pesky little brother! 😂. My sister has a three year old Paint gelding named Herman. He’s a funny little rascal and would love to hang out and play with Skelator!
What a spoiled horse! 🐎🐎🐎 Skeletor is something else! He's a devil 👿 he knows how to misbehave! He's really a smart guy! Thank you for spoiling all your animals ❤❤😊😊
Thank you for sharing your stories with your lovely horses with us. I enjoy each story and seems so interesting to meet each horse personality and by the way Colorado mountains are just beautiful! Thank you!
I had a PSSM gelding that I had to switch to low sugar/low starch. Originally the vet had me use rice bran & corn oil (until I came to understand how highly inflammatory corn oil is!) I started using CoolStance (coconut copra) & Alfalfa meal instead and he improved immensely. Just a small amount expands quite a bit with water so it really helped keep his belly full. It made an excellent mash to mix his minerals into. No fizziness or hyper energy since CoolStance is packed with MCT’s. Stance Equine also makes “PowerStance” which is a powdered coconut oil for building weight (awesome for my Cushing’s Arab mare when she was in her 30’s and needed a boost to keep her at a good weight) and “Turmericle“ which is phenomenal for reducing inflammation. My horses always pretty nice hair coats but when we switched to high fat combined with forage, they just GLOWED. 🥰
I’ve tried cool stance,it smells so good! I did have problems with gas colic with a few horses when I was using it though. Something didn’t sit right with them. All mine are already on a low starch/sugar forage based diet !
In Chinese medicine we say pain that is relieved by movement is more 'fixable' than pain that is aggravated by movement - better prognosis. I hope its the same for horses and Skeletor. ❤❤
I know nothing about horses only that they are so beautiful! He is a stunner! You're so smart, and so dedicated. I'm sure they all have their days like we do. You're doing a great job! Thanks for sharing❤
I recently found your channel. I love watching the horses and you show an honest view of what taking care of them is. I'm basically a city kid (hardly a kid anymore) and have only lived in big big cities, but I love animals and horses. I love watching Skeletor, he has so much personality. He's like a puppy! I love it. So naughty ... LOL.
Thanks for these videos. My Grandkids are getting old enough that I need some stock on my little Idaho farm. I am learning from you what I need know and I thank you for it. Keep breaking free.
He's so funny and very entertaining is Skeletor😀. I have a warm blood mare who is a bit like him, loves playing around and has an overactive mind, I do put a powdered magnesium in her feed and it does help to keep her more balanced. Keep up the great work. 👌
My donkey would be an amazing buddy for Skeletor! He also loves to play. Maybe you can find a donkey at auction? I know, like you need another mouth to feed.
Ah, Skeletor! He's like a teenage boy, all energy and fiddling and hungry. But he is such a winning personality, loving people. Thank you for sharing your day and I hope that the warmer weather heals.
He's amazing! He chases after toys like a dog! If he can't be ridden, I'm sure someone would love to have this playful, affectionate boy as a "pasture pet", although I can't see you giving him up.😍 He's smart and he's beautiful. He might be one of the very few herd animals who would be okay as an "only horse" if he got enough attention and stimulation from his people?.
CC, you tried everything for this boy. We all love him and are so sad that he has transistioned. That must have been so painful a process and my heart hurts for you. Much love, Namaste'
You have got there one crazy and funny horse. The nutrition he is getting is making him so energetic! All your horses are so unique and sympathtetic with their own unique personality. Thank you so much for this video. Looking forward for new ones.❤❤
