You're forgetting one very important teeny teeny tiny whiny little fact by not releasing it they take all that money and is considered a loss for taxes purposes.
@@MrRichiarditya Hey if it gets leaked you get what you get all right... although I'm wondering if this isn't some giant ploy by Warner Brothers to Garner extreme interest in the film. kind of like the Snyder cut for Justice League.
The most messed thing about this is that it wasn’t even cancelled the middle of filming or even before production, the film was already wrapped up. Hell, imagine if you’re Micheal Keaton and you get to be Batman for the first time in over 30 years only to find out one of the two movies you worked on was just cancelled like that? Now it might happen to the Flash movie too, all thanks to Ezra Miller’s antics.
@@BrandontheAwesome By who? From where? The idea it was gonna be bad has only been circulated by the "anti-SJW" comics crowd who are celebrating this movie being cancelled.
Even if Scoob and Batgirl were terrible, I feel really bad for the cast and creators of those projects who put years of work into them and will never get to see their work come to fruition. Every movie no matter how bad has someone who likes it. It also sets a really bad precedent that a creator could put years of work into a project and have it be completely scrapped meer months before the intended release to "protect the brand". Ultimately I'm always going to side with the creatives behind the project over rich executives and I can't really see any good coming from this decision.
@@budgiecat9039 If the writers of Gods of Egypt can keep getting roles writing masterpiece such as Morbius and Power Rangers (2017) these guys surely can, Adil and Bilal have proved they're capable directors on other projects. @@budgiecat9039 the cast are fine Leslie Grace will still get roles, Michael Keaton will still get roles, JK Simmons will still get roles, Brendan Fraser will still get roles
They really are just a total, total freak. Where they wind up at this point is going to lead to one of the most bizarre E! True Hollywood Stories ever.
I was super bummed hearing about the projects getting canceled. And as someone newer to DC, it sucks that they may limit animated movies. Those are the best!
With all due respect, I gotta push back on the idea that HBO/WB/Discovery should be prioritizing streaming over theatrical releases for their big budget movies. Sure that would save them some money in distribution costs, but they would be missing out of hundreds of millions in box office revenue for each movie (for the successful ones, at least) that skips theaters. Netflix has been throwing a few $100M+ budget movies per year at us for the last several years, and it doesn't seem to be going over too well for them.
@@wesleywyndam-pryce5305 Netflix is actually in a pretty bad place right now. Badly in debt, losing subscribers, stock prices falling, and the most popular things on their service are things they paid rights for and will possibly lose soon. Their original programming is not very popular.
You are correct, theatrical releases are where the money and the "prestige", for lack of a better word, are. It's hard to make as much money from streaming, especially when you spend hundreds of millions on a single movie. No one seems to think about repeat viewings. Even if you go thd D+ route and charge extra to watch the big movies at home, you miss out on people having to pay every time they want to see the movie. So people pay to watch movies they love 5 or more times, with friends! You can't capitalise on that with streaming
Agreed. I refuse to support streaming-exclusive content. I’m about two things: Theatrical releases and physical media. If either of those aren’t offered me as an option, these studios won’t have me as a customer. Now, who wants my money? Zaslav does, clearly.
Hot take: The best thing that I liked about Scoob! Was the Captain Caveman and bits with lesser known Hannah Barbara characters, because I really miss the Hannah Barbara verse that I enjoyed as a kid, and yes while the actual dialogue given to these characters in Scoob might not have been the strongest or most tasteful, that nostalgia had me eating it up and hoping for spinoffs and maybe Flintstones and Jetsons too
Without a doubt, there were absolutely plans to continue tying in other Hanna-Barbara properties into the Scoob!verse and tbh I was totally down for it. I’ve always loved Dick Dastardly & Muttley so seeing them be the main antagonists was a pleasant surprise! If other cameos and potential spin-offs were made tastefully then I would’ve been all for seeing my favorites back on a screen.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention Paul Dini as the writer as another plus. Or Mitch Watson from Mystery Incorporated also working on it. Or that we were going to get Patrick Warburton back as Sheriff Bronson Stone.
15 years ago I was firmly a DC fan with barely any interest in anything Marvel. Today, while I still enjoy some individual DC shows and movies, I've no investment into the mess the DC universe is as a whole.

Given that the test audience for Batgirl hated the film, it's safe to say it was gonna be awful. I'm not saying I hate the IDEA of a Batgirl movie, I just don't want her to replace Batman.
If I were the crew I would be absolutely pissed sure the actors will be in another movie, but the cgi artists, the set designers, the costume designers, The sound mixers, and practically every member of the crew besides the director actors and the producers get overlooked in movies like this, and their work won't even be seen PS. discovery+ (Or whatever their streaming service is called) absolutely sucks and I'm paranoid that the merger will make one of the better streaming services (HBOMAX) worse
I do appreciate the note about flashpoint. As much as I'm upset about these two getting canceled, I'm more upset that they're cancelling these two for no reason while flashpoint gets to live on despite Ezra's string of poor choices and harmful behavior.
I think the strangest thing about all this is the idea that this CEO is anti streaming content for the company that has litteraly created some of what is considered the best TV of the last two decades it's like he doesn't even know what he owns.
My thoughts, even if a movie would have been bad or in a wrong direction, you still worked on it , people still put there time and effort in to it, you could still make money. If no one sees it you lose all your money. If you put it out there and it gets seen and it makes some money and it doesn't make all its money back at least it made some money. and people are smart. they know what they alternate universes are. If I can still find the Wonder Woman TV series pilot and that never aired Fantastic Four movie and Norm of the North and Food Fight and the Thief and the Cobler and the Emoji movie and the Ugly Dolls Movie then I should be aloud to find Batgirl or Gigantic or Newt or Popeye, see them and judge for my self. Also wanting to make "Other" movies does not mean you can't also do the movies you had going. I am sick of "Can't have Batman on Smallville or JLU because it'll distract from Chris Nolan's vision and we don't want to confuse the audience" that's the same line they use on Spider Man 4, Spectacular Spiderman , Avengers Earths Mightiest heroes, Green Lantern, Bayman brave and the bold, Beware the Batman, Superman returns.... I mean we made 2 Burton Batman movies and two Shoemaker batman movies and no one questioned continuity so why can't we just put any thing out? Why can't Batman be on CW and in DCEU at the same time? its the little things that bug me. If you want to see a Scooby Doo mystery for adults done the way I would do it, See "Case Closed" and then combine that with "Gravity Falls" or maybe "Ace Attorney"
10:59 well ain't this some funny timing cause just recently news broke about WB considering to cancel the Flash movie as well due to Ezra Miller's "controversial actions".
The actual news is that canceling is like the 3rd or 4th plan they have for the movie. WB's plan A is actually Ezra saying "i am sorry" and the press for the movie going 100% fine, which is somehow more insane than canceling 2 movies that are almost done
*Morbius gets released* The audience: “How could a studio in good conscience release this movie??” *Batgirl gets canceled* The audience: “How could a studio in good conscience cancel this movie??”
To be fair, I’d rather know a movie was bad for sure than never see it. And test screenings are notoriously mid when it comes to actually grading quality.
@@wesleywyndam-pryce5305 if they write it down on taxes they can make back most of the 90 mil they spent. If they want to release it they need to spend more money for finishing touches and then advertising.
@@wesleywyndam-pryce5305 Companies lose more money in the long ring by releasing subpar movies because it hurts their reputation and credibility with fans. If a studio gets a reputation for making bad movies, people are going to be less likely to watch their future releases.
Between Amber Heard, Ezra Miller, fantastic beasts, WB barely attending Comic-Con and now canceling Batgirl and Scoby, are they trying to go bankrupt!?
@@BrandontheAwesome Batgirl is a hilarious situation, because way more people talked about the movie's cancellation then all talks about it before the cancellation combined.
@@BrandontheAwesome Yes, let’s trust the bloated grotesque that foisted Honey Boo Boo and The disgusting Duggers on the world to make intelligent, creative and artistic decisions.
Well he had seen the numbers, as much as the "go woke go broke" consignia has become kind of a meme, financial reports and viewing reports from streaming platforms actually sugest that it is true, therefore as much as cutting Batgirl may seem as a net loss in the short term, it allows WB to rework the IP in a way that could give more revenue in the long term than what it could do with this version already out. In the case of Scoob, I really don't know why
"Hey, you look really sad." "Yeah all those things you canceled. It just makes me sad." "Would you like some Ice Cream?" "Yeah some Ice cream sounds nice right about now." "Alright well we get the rock salt and some sugar and fruit and cream and mix it all together and oh fuck it let's just throw it all away."
Regardless of which movie's cancellation you take more harshly, I think all sane people can agree on one thing: F*** the 'Honey Boo-Boo Guy', and F*** all the undeserved worship he's suddenly gotten.
Glad to see lots of people in the comments have seen the Moviebob video and how generally bad this new guy's MO is when it comes to running corporations
@@wesleywyndam-pryce5305 It's mostly that part of the internet that complains about certain movies being "woke" and for some reason think that Warner Brothers was going in a "woke" direction before this new guy, and that him cancelling Batgirl and CW is getting rid of the "agenda" from before and will somehow restore the Snyderverse
It's just a horrible thing to do to all the people that worked on the movies. Like imagine you put in all that work for years, and right before it can release it gets cut. Not mid way through, not early on. Right before it is finished.
I love knowing that my favorite creators watch each other, I've been following those heroes reforged fellas across the internet since like 2015. Thanks for covering this bit of news from WB. Also just recently discovered your Prob not aliens podcast and its amazing. Cant wait to see more from you Scott :D
I did not know anything about Multiversus for a while. My friend was casually talking in Discord and said "Oh yeah, I am going to main Lebron James". I was like "Wait... let's say that again. I could have swore you said that your main character was going to be Lebron James."
Movies generally spend as much on marketing as they do on budgets. Cancelling them does save all that money that these films certainly would not make back.
The problem with me know having Nebula is I apparently have to wait a day to comment on your videos 😅. But yes, you would be a great show runner for Scooby-Doo… if we where looking for a lore heavy entry in the franchise that would probably put a lot of emphasis on the fact that every villain is a capitalist.
Well, these are the same kinda peeps what gave Superman, Batman, and the Justice League to Zack Snyder so bad decisions are pretty on brand; in fact I wouldn't be surprised if the also dig Ayn Rand
Or, you know, they could have turned it into a feel good story about Leslie Grace’s dream role and Brendan Fraser’s great return to distract from the Ezra Miller mess. If they played their cards right, even people who disliked it wouldn’t be able to admit it without feeling guilty. For the record this is called marketing, which is what a well run company would do. This company did the exact opposite and ran a smear campaign on their own film and talent. Know who chooses that route? Assholes.
The only thing they praised was Brendan Fraiser. That's it. Everything else was awful. And since we now know the original plan was to replace both Batman and Superman with Batgirl and Supergirl (NOT Kara Danvers I should add) and have an all-female DC Trinity, yeah, I am SO glad that Batgirl got canned.
Its funny that people were praising Disney plus, HBO max and making fun of Netflix for putting ads and increasing price for their service. And now Disney plus and HBO max is doing the same thing.
Restructuring is necessary. The DC movies have never had their footing until the Matt Reeves Batman movie. There were some other good ones but the quality was very inconsistent.
There's still a lot of distribution even if the movie is for streaming, because other countries have ✨ different languages ✨ and what helps this is ✨ localization ✨ for both dubbing and text on screen. I still agree with you, at least for the Scoob! prequel, that was a movie I was excited about.
Damn Discovery is the worst. They literally bought and scrapped Sourcefed in the mid 2010's shutting down a popular RU-vid Channels created by Philip Defranco. Feels like history repeating itself on a larger scale
Scott, you should mention that the headlines are usually either heavily misconstrued, have other stuff beyond the surface that shows Ezra isn't a bad person, or are just straight up made up. For instance, the infamous choking video is a staged fight. The chair incident happened because someone's ex boyfriend got violent. The bar incident happened because Ezra was being harassed. Ezra didn't kidnap anyone, Gibson Iron Eyes is with Ezra Miller willingly, and is also an adult. Gibson said as much several times, but people are still believing Gibson's lying, abusive parents over the alleged "victim" directly. I'm starting to think people don't care about the truth, just funny Hawaii man.
It's worth noting on the Flashpoint thing that DC made sure the Batman characterized Thomas as a morally grey man whose worst acts were grounded in a love for his family, and Martha as a woman with potential mental health issues, and they also made sure Aquaman and Wonder Woman had really successful films. It seems like they laid really good groundwork for Flashpoint and now they're stuck with a Flash they really don't want but a movie they really do
Disappointed that the ‘Batman meets scooby’ scene in this video was NOT from the New Scooby Doo Movies series from the 70s. Especially since you could have included the scene where scooby fantasizes about being bat-man, with cowl and cap while sitting in the bat mobile. For shame.
The only good thing that came out of this cancellation is this video. Your comedic timing in this video was *chefs kiss* plus the lead in with the batgirl thumbnail.
Put Scooby in the middle of a field with Scott on one side and WB on the other and see which side Scooby will go to when called. (Or bribed with Scooby Snacks)
A common problem with many modern pop-films nowadays, is protagonists that lack personal motivation and don't face adversity. If you keep releasing films, based on a popular IP, that fail basic standards for story telling, then it damages the brand. It's possible they don't want to release the Batgirl movie, because they think it will damage the reputation of the brand. Star Wars used to be as popular as the MCU, then many things including the sequel trilogy damaged the Star Wars brand. Star Wars is still popular, but not what it used to be at all.
you seem new here. star wars wasn't damaged from bad movies it was a bunch a reactionary troglodites that hated rey because girl. star wars was always exactly as average as it is now, the ONLY thing it had going for it was the effects at the time. and what other modern pop films are you talking about? this applies to none of the marvel movies and all of Zack Snyders movies idk what other modern pop movies you could be referring to with this comment and again the dceu is like that because they hired Zack fucking Snyder to direct. the whole "no adversity" thing makes no sense to me unless you're coming at this from a reactionary stance. but reactionaries love the dceu so this confuses me even more. also star wars was over taken by the mcu, they weren't equally as popular the mcu was less popular because it was new and then it was wayyyyyyyyyy more popular. nothing star wars could have done would have out performed the mcu, but again star wars relied entirely on setting and effects, while the mcu has that and like story and character development and relatable and/or interesting cast of characters. star wars is wet noodle and wet noodle and obi wan.
my biggest problem with Zaslav as a shepherd for DC is that he's a huge Trumpet & wants to make DC "safe for rightwingers" which is the worst thing it could possibly be.
One quote I saw in the article says it best : "DC will no longer be treated as a hobby." GOOD. Cancel the crap. 90% of DC is absolute garbage. The pre-screenings of Batgirl came back, "unwatchable." The only way to save DC is to DESTROY it, and start over. Now I'm just waiting for Flash to get cancelled, then I'll start taking DC seriously again.
I've honestly imagined them adding Scooby Doo to the DCEU a lot. With how many times we've seen him team up with Batman over the years, why wouldn't they? I'd love to see a live action Batman/Scooby Doo crossover! If they think adding a talking to dog is too unrealistic, they could always go the Mystery Incorporated route and explain it by him being a descendent of aliens again. It'd work.
No Besides. Scoob has teamed up with Blue Falcon & Dynomutt. So Dynomutt talks. They need to stop with the DC stuff and explore other past options. Ones that fit their theme bettter: Fangface (and Fangpuss) Goober & the Ghost Chasers The Funky Phantom Clue Club Speed Buggy The Amazing Chan & the Chan Clan Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids Josie & the Pussycats Buford Galloping Ghost The New Shmoo Jabberjaw Captain Caveman & the Teen Angels Mister T (and his teen gymnast crime solving team)
@@budgiecat9039 Have you seen the Myster Incorporated TV show? There were plenty of talking animals in that cartoon. They were all descended from aliens. That was explanation they used for why some animals talked and others didn't. It was a great show too.
I actually didn't care all to much about Batgirl, I was more worried about the Harley Quin show, but WHAT?! No one told me Brendan Fraiser was going to be in it. This is an absolute travesty, STOP DOING MY BOY DIRTY HOLLYWOOD!
If they don't release the movies, they can write it off as a 90M loss in their taxes to pay 90M less. If they release the movies in any way, then they could theoretically be making an unknown amount of "money" from people "subscribing to HBO Max just to watch Batgirl."
The movie will sit on the shelf and eventually somebody’s going to go in and finish the FX shots and then movie will see the light of day. I’m talking about the bad girl movie but studios have been making dumb decisions and that it’s not just Warner Bros. it’s all of them straight across the board. I don’t get what anybody’s doing these days. I’m just writing it out and hoping that somebody will kick in their head and finally do what they should’ve done in the first place. I’m gonna finish watching the rest of your video now. Keep up the good work.
love all the people commenting "HOW COULD YOU CALL BATGIRL THEIR MOST IMPORTANT MOVIE!!!???!??!!!1111??!!!" clearly not watching the video and seeing it was a fake out to talk about Scooby fucking Doo lmao
It would make more sense to cancel Flashpoint. I've heard that movie's budget is already over $200 million. People aren't going to want to see it because Eza Miller is in it. But no, they cancelled the movie with the non-white female as the lead. I thought AT&T was bad at running Warner Brothers.
