I think Elon musk crude and showed that the executives have no f****** clue what they're doing and that the only thing they're good at is stealing other people's money from the hard work they do. And let's be realistic a second-year the people at the tub do not do anything as far as the actual art product or anyting is involved all they are is someone who controls the money and there really aren't any good executives out there who pay their workers a fair share of what they did and earned or even hire enough people to properly do the job they do not want to share the profits that people made with the people that did the work and they're willing to throw away all of their people's hard work for their own tax write-off. They are willing to fire the people that worked hard and they are willing to abuse all for Suoely their own profit.
Warner Brothers also made it ridiculously expensive to to get an unlock costumes in mortal Komba 11 and you think considering that to unlock it quickly you have to spend like $10 that you know the data would transfer to another console if you had it on another console nope they expect you to pay for it again these large companies do not respect us they do not pay us and they keep charging us more
@12:16 Oh Scott, you sweet summer child. Animators don't get paid residuals. We pretty much are fucked from the producer to the assistant. We do get some form of compensation twice a year from foreign levies, but that's it.
If a corporation writes a piece of art off as a tax loss that should put it into the public domain or give the rights to the artists that worked on it.
That would save so any series, and give so many artist back they're characters. You have no idea. We need to get this idea to someone who can putting it into writing. And someone who can putting it before the supreme court.
I don't think that's why they do it. Think of it this way if you create a piece of art but don't release it and... a person steals it and uploads and takes away any potential money you could have made from it or even remaking a new version of it later on... then whoever stole from you in wrong because they have prevented you from figuring out what you, yourself want to do with it. Even if that was never show it and keep it for your own personal viewing.
@@AstraFulminous you do understand that when a company writes off a show that makes it to where they can't legally make money off of that property, because they told the government they want there money back because they did a bad investment and will never try making money off said property because the government already paid for it.
@@AstraFulminous but that’s not what is happening or what I’m arguing for. Think of it this way a wealthy king commissions an art piece that takes an artist and their team 1-2 years to complete upon delivery the king throws the art in a fire because they didn’t like it. It is within his rights to do, but man that doesn’t really feel good does it? That’s what’s happening here, it’s not the artists who worked in these projects hiding it and I didn’t advocate for people stealing this art. I advocated that if the king doesn’t like the art the artists should have control of the art or have it donated to the public. This is why I specifically said corporations. When they write the art off on their taxes they can’t use it to make money and the art gets buried.
Why does cancelling a finished and not faulty or dangerous product for no reasons give tax ride offs? Now of course you wouldn’t want tax ride offs fire releases as that would just encourage them to make any old crap. Better to outlaw tax breaks for companies and give them to families for dumb things like having children, or not getting an abortion. That might be the more effective way of forcing women to not get them. As that seems to be a priority. (That is just to split the base and hold on to power.) I’m not sure what tax breaks poor struggling families should get. I would almost say, No taxes for anyone without a net profit of 1000$. As in at the end of the let’s say month they have 1000 $ to add to any sort of savings or other such nonsense. No tax unless you can actually increase your liquid fortune by 1000 a month. Pre tax. With increasing taxes pet 3 figures added to that number. That is how taxes should work.
Naw, they need to dress like a either Mexican ghost like La Llorona or the angry ghost of John Henry and hunt and harass David Zaslav. It will work, racists like him are a stupid and cowardly lot.
"If it weren't for these meddling teenagers and their talking dog, I would've succeeded on making you big wigs to cancel your project for tax ride offs!!, Curse you mystery inc!"
The fact that we've been robbed of a return of the Hex Girls hurts me greatly. Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost was a fun movie and I remember really liking it as a kid. I'd love to see a return of the Hex Girls, so I have no idea what Warner Bros. is doing.
Things that may or may not have happened in the movie: The miniature city of Kandor gets destroyed accidentally and the character who did it sweeps it under a nearby rug hoping nobody notices. Giant bottles of ketchup and mustard are used as offensive weapons in an extended fight scene with no mention at all of Condiment King. Alongside Wonder Woman's Invisible Jet and Invisible Tank, the Invisible Trolley Car makes a (non) appearance. In a villain chase montage, Shaggy and Scooby disguise themselves as statues of Jan and Jace from the Superfriends cartoon; the villain of course is oblivious and passes them right by. Many of the deep cut callbacks are handled well and aren't thrown in your face, more blink and you'll miss it than lampshaded. Lex Luthor uses his computer watch to hack a vending machine because he's hungy and wants snackies NOW and his assistant isn't nearby to fetch him coffee and a bagel. The gang gets dropped into an Aquaman themed area and accosted by a shark; luckily Fred is wearing Batman's utility belt and saves the day with Bat Shark Repellant. ... okay most of these don't happen but some are close.
I think the best part is that I have absolutely no idea which ones are fake, and I love it. Ok, thats not entirely true, I have my suspicions on several of them, but still! ...please tell me the bat shark repellent is real. I want it to be real so bad.
@@shino4242 It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that the Bat Shark Repellant is not true. There are scenes with Fred pulling out lots of obscure things from Batman's spare utility belt though, and I feel it would've been completely in line with the writing and was a missed opportunity.
Warner Bros has really turned this into a piracy vs official release situation. Any fan who wants to watch ANYTHING that isn't Velma feels like they are getting punished when it's WB's fault for not giving them the variety of shows and movies that they should be having. All of these projects are finished or almost finished! Just release them to the public!
If you think about that for a few seconds you will realize that it’s a terrible idea. “Something”, so if you had a business where you purchase a car and are writing it off, does that become public domain? Where do you draw this line?
I don't know exactly how animators get paid but don't they get like residuals or a cut of sales etc. Warner is LITERALLY TAKING Food off these animators table by cancelling all these projects. I'll have to ask my brother about this cause hes an animator so knows how they get paid.
Fairly certain it's similar to a commission in that it's a one-and-done deal for that project. Since these projects aren't syndicated or anything like that, it stands to reason that residuals aren't even on the table.
Animators do get residuals, but it is a pitiable amount & that assumes they actually get it at all. A common clause is that animators don’t get any residuals for an amount of time immediately after the project is put out. Then a bunch of other shuffling bs happens so that the animators “never need to get paid” after their initial pay for just creating it.
@Pen pens I thought I heard recently that animators are trying to get residuals from streaming as well no? So for example if u're a animated movie company that makes Netflix ogs Netflix then has to pay the animators a residual for each view that movie gets? Or at least that's a way that makes sense to me at least
I don’t even understand why they would cancel these things at the finish line. Wouldn’t you make money if you released it? This makes no sense on any level
They also get money if the movie fails or if they cancel it. The Hollywood system is purposely designed to get you money no matter what. The question is where the money goes. It would be in the animator’s contracts that they get residuals from sales. But if the movie is never released, there are no sales. Warner gets it’s money back from the tax write-off and doesn’t have to pay any of the staff that worked on the movie.
I totally believe that a part of this is cause the Velma backlash. Like someone at WBD was banking on this being a breakout adult reboot, and when it got nuclear hate, that caused older scooby shows to do big numbers . People at WBD were like "well I cant have egg on my face if newer lighthearted Scooby-Doo does better. So let's quietly sweep these things under the rug here."
@@hotelmario510 Nah, it would. According to that logic, WB is taking away all the Scooby Doo you want and leaving you with only the Scooby Doo you don't want, like now that Velma's the only thing that exists you'll be forced to watch it. Which is of course, untrue
Problem is enough people are hate watching Velma that WB is fine with it. They only care about money. They don't care if you hate something. They just want you to watch it.
"So what if we made a Scooby Doo spin off, do literally nothing that the franchise is known for, don't have the star of the franchise in it, and just make it an overall unpleasant and horrible experience to watch. Then, after everyone hates it, we give it a season 2 AND cancel every project we have that actually potentially uses the franchise properly" -WB executives
I'm feeling particularly fiesty against WB today due to *4* copyright claims on an incredibly long video I just finished, and I'm just glad the video isn't blocked. But jfc they need to be stopped on all fronts with these shenanigans
The more I hear about the things Warner Bros is doing the less I want to give them any of my hard-earned money. I know that I"m just one person and ultimately it won't mean a thing to them, but if enough people stop paying to watch their content it might get WB/Discovery's attention. Either way, keep up the great work, Scott.
@Karth38 voicing discontent is not the same as not spending money on their products. I won't pay to subscribe to HBO Max. I won't be paying to see their movies. I won't be buying DC comics. Etc. I'll be speaking with my wallet. Like I said, I'm one person, so that won't be a problem for them, but if enough people stop giving them money, they might get the idea.
What nobody here seems to understand is that WBD right now has a debt greater than their own stock price. The company is literally bleeding out to a painful and bitter bankruptcy and at this point all we can do is stand around watching their death throes play out.
"Let's get something straight, WB execs: Scooby Doo is FCKING old. Older than me. Older than Scott. Older than Kaling and certainly older than you. You can try and change him as much as you want. You can change the gang, the setup, the time period... Hell, you can even get rid of the dog. But WE WILL. FIGHT. BACK." -The Gang.
At least Disney is lucky that their Projects weren't suddenly getting cancelled/scrapped for no reason, same with Nickelodeon or any other Studio in Hollywood.
@@thefantasticretroreviewer3941 That’s because Disney thinks they’re perfect, same with Viacom. While Warner Bros just simply hate their cartoons if their quality was too damn good to begin perfect.
@@thefantasticretroreviewer3941 Jamie Kellner everyone? He wants to kill off comedy cartoons like Looney Tunes replacing them with boring ass action anime shows by merging Time Warner with AOL. Because he thinks comedy cartoons are outdated.
"I am willing to sell out for my own mental health, that is a line I'm perfectly comfortable crossing." I wish we lived in a world where nobody had to make that kind of choice, but given the world we live in, that's a good stance to take.
If it makes you feel any better, LEGO fired me from working at one of their retail stores, because I posted a video where I described myself as an employee and receiving a gift from them, but not actually showing the gift or describing the gifts contents. An item that is exclusive to those partnered with LEGO, mind you, but had already been shown to the public by others who work with them on their own youtube channels, visuals and all. I was only told prior to receiving the item, that I would be fired if I attempted to resell it while still being employed. And I wasn't given a harsh measure about posting photos of it online or for any grace period after receiving it. Meanwhile each following year I would see LEGO employees openly publish photos and sometimes video of their employee exclusive gifts without any penalties whatsoever. So yup, WB going after creators for acknowledging the existence of a cancelled yet completed film, is no better than other corporate giants of their respective media industries.
1) already said this on bird app, but thanks for having captions on the video at launch. I assure you it means so much to a lot of people. 2) I am very glad you got a legal department. 3) I get that they dropped a bunch of movies as tax write-offs but there really had to be a better way. This is a property with a proven track record of at least breaking even when they know what they’re doing.
1) Warner Bros. made the looney tunes. 2) Stop calling it a corporation! That's NOT A WORD! 3) All you're teaching me is that Warner Bros. is right and you are wrong.
It's impressive how the higher up at Warner Bros blatantly despise their customers. The main thing that people were screaming about when Velma dropped was the desire for more "real" Scooby products. You'd think that would make them go, "huh, maybe we should pull some of the completed or semi-completed stuff off the backburner and actually release it for those videos... ALONGSIDE Velma season 2 - you know - for the hate watches. But, no. We JUST get Velma season 2, because it apparently made them SO much money.... wait did it even?
Velma was so bad I couldn’t even hate watch it. I can’t imagine they made any money off it. Of course Mindy Kaling was just at the White House getting a good shill award from the Sniffer-In-Chief so she’s obviously got some connections. Maybe WB didn’t have a choice about it. 🤷♂️
Why do I have a bad feeling Velma is going to become the new Teen Titans Go in that it'll keep going and going no matter how much people hate it? Or worse, they'll just remove Scooby entirely and make that show the new face of the franchise.
well, there is a non-zero chance that about a quarter through the series 10 seasons run Velma will completely reverse course and have some plot twist that will explain everything that has happened and turn the show into something, not good necessarily, but better and worthwhile existing. whether they abandon whatever woke anti-whatever nonsense their doing or start actually doing that message in a way that isn't hot garbage. my bet is they don't believe any of it and are doing it to discredit the entire concept.
That's not fair to TTG. 'Coughs' Some people.....'Coughs'.....like.....'coughs'......TTG. 'Hacking' It's not as bad.....'coughs'......Velma. 'Violent Coughing' Oh look, I coughed up some blood.
I ask naively: Is there any legal recourse the writers & animators have when a finished project is deliberately buried? If part of their expected compensation is from residuals they are loosing money ( as well as a part of their resume )
This is why I canceled my HBO subscription because of the bizarre antics of this company! I’m not saying that anyone else should, but I believe in “voting with our wallets”
What really has me incensed about Warner Bro. going through with this copyright strike streek of there's is that... *_they_* made the decision to cancel these productions. Like, you canceled these works, you have no real right to claim them as *_your_* property. Honestly that would be like as if I raised a child for 15 years, abandoned them as they hit 16, and after discovering them to have been taken in by a relative of my neighbor into a loving and caring household, I fly into a rage and take the people to court. Like yeah, _I_ canceled my fatherhood subscription but let me still try and stake a claim on the child. Warner Bro. can eat shit.
Thank you so much for making this video and for the shout out. It’s so great to see a big channel like yours give the creators of these movies the attention they deserve ❤
Mindy Kaling needs to do some backtracking and come out and state that her voice was deepfaked for the entire show and she was under contract to keep quiet.
Stuff being cancelled for taxes just makes me think what else might be out there.. Duck Dodgers season 4? Ducktales with comic accurate Mickey Mouse where he's a cool private detective? The originally planned Rescue Rangers movie from the 90s?
I am still here for the Scoob shift in the channel. I didn’t realize someone could spend so much time talking about Scooby Doo and remain so entertaining. Keep doing what you do. Be dooby doo.
Makes me wonder if the reason they are taking these properties off HBO max is so they can sell the distribution rights to another streaming service like Amazon or Netflix.
I feel you, but at the same time I have so little faith in DC's movie making ability that my expectations of that movie were pretty poor to begin with. I think it was a high chance that this was a mercy killing and we were all spared another DC movie flop.
@@shino4242 Brendan Fraser is in it. The directors are actually fairly creative in their action. The other actors were passionate about the release, they weren't relieved by it. An actor, actress or director knows when a film is genuinely bad or not.
@@realityshifter3399 Yeah I don’t buy it. They released fucking Suicide Squad they can release Batgirl. It’s not gonna “ruin” anyone’s career, and I’m pretty sure the writers, directors and actors would all want people to see the movie they worked for several years on.
Okay, a Scooby Doo podcast (ETA: an audio recording of a Scooby Doo mystery or Mystery Inc having a true crime podcast) sounds like something that has a very thin line between amazing and terrible but I'm willing to roll the dice on that
We are living - entertainment wise - in this really weird moment where, mostly due to stuff like the ESG ratings, investors and top leadership in companies believe that such ratings and the potential positive perception they cause (not for the general public with whom they don't care at all, but rather in terms of attracting investment) is more important than actually serving their audiences/customers. It sounds crazy but it is kind of the pinnacle of the speculation game that is the investment market reaching and taking control of all of these companies.
Yeah. And, plus, the merchandising potential there is insane. Monster High had their reboot last year, I'm sure there are young Wcooby fans who would KILL to have doll versions of The Hex Girls.
I thinks whats worse is its everything with them they even did it to batgirl. And then removed a bunch of cartoons to show it as a loss on tax records this is ridicul9us artists are losing their projects bc the publisher wants to save money
The fact that WB is renewing Velma but cancelling other, probably better projects, is a sign that we should start boycotting them. Speak with your wallets, people. It's the only way they will learn.
Kind of funny, I've been to a McDonald's recently and the Happy Meals are themed around WB's 100th Anniversary. Can't believe WB. are trying to celebrate such a milestone while they're having the worst time of their life, in the corporate sense that is
Hey Scott, I don't know if you watched it or not, but what do you think about Velma meets Original Velma by Avocado Animations? It pretty grim but I think it's a better representation of the Scooby Doo franchise than the entirety of Velma.
From what I can tell, there may have been a scene with Streaky, Batman, and/or Ace the Bat-Hound, but if it existed, it may have been cut. It makes me wonder if that scene was cut due to it being voiced by Kevin Conroy, but he hadn't finished his parts. I wonder if Mr. Conroy's passing may have contributed to canceling this particular project too.
Is it possible to revoke WB-Discovery's custody of Scooby and the Gang for ourselves? Scooby is like a national treasure, surely we can argue that they're not properly caring for the franchise. 👀
I've made my peace at this point that Warner Bros will NEVER change. No matter what company they merge with or who's in charge, they're just gonna continue to get worse than they already were and as always, dragging the DC brand down with them. Like seriously, does anyone else think DC always suffer from their disrespectful, dumb as hell decisions more than their other franchises? I don't know what the hell it is with them, but they not only treat the fandom, even the non-toxic side, like the villains, but they're their own worst enemy more than we are! I don't trust Warner Bros but I trust James Gunn, Peter Safran, Alan Horn and an increasingly low number of filmmakers (James Wan, David F Sandberg) and that's it! I'm hoping filmmakers for upcoming movies can prove themselves and the filmmakers who made mistakes in previous films can redeem themselves. You know which ones they are. They're the only hopes I have now for ANYONE working for Warner Bros. I'm also still holding out hope for a SCOOB 2 because I actually think a Hanna Barbera cinematic universe could work if executed correctly. Maybe James Gunn could work with Scooby Doo again and exec-produce those movies the same way he will for the DCU.
As much as I trust James Gunn, etc., I've lost all faith in Warner-Discovery, especially knowing the crap they're pulling with content creators like Scott, so I'm not going to pay for any more of their content.
Yeah, unfortunately the company is in massive massive debt and all these projects are investments the company can claim a loss on with taxes. HBO Max went from number 1 to cancel account so fast!
I think what waner discovery is doing right now is dispiceble, they are not only devaluing animation as an artform but they are also devaluing all the people who spent there life to make art they belived in. And they are taking away their hard work, their voices… as an artist growing up loving scooby doo and cartoon network, i find this truly horrifying. I really hope that all the projects that waner discovery has dropped gets a new life because the artist and people behind the projects deserve it. Thank you scott for always making amazing and well thought out videos! They always give bring me joy and make me think which is always lovely! I hope anyone reading this comment has a lovely week and remember that you are loved, you are important and you are valid!🌸
One thing that really personally frustrates me is that never going to get the Scooby-Doo krypto the Superdog crossover that movie sounded awesome to me I'm really bummed that they canceled that I don't even know if that was like official or anything but I remember hearing something about that possibly being a movie and then randomly being canceled
Fun and creative Scoolby Films: *cancelled/axed* Velma: everyone hate it (not Scoolby's fan, not normal fan, not "ah it's bad that great to watch" people): *season 2* what's life?
Seems almost like Warner is purposely trying to run itself into the ground. Cancelling one movie as a tax write off is one thing, a bad decision, but whatever. But repeatedly doing that is just plain stupid.
Velma didn’t get a second season anymore than Masters of the Universe or Discovery having 5 seasons. They already recorded all this shite and just broke it up into ten episode runs. A season of tv is more than 16 episodes or even 20 episodes. Don’t let the streaming binge chunking of shows fool ya.
I understand that Zaslav and WB are ina 3 billion (or however much) dollar hole so they have to cut costs somewhere, but when I look at all the things they're cutting and cancelling I am just left baffled.
The mystery pups was a great recurring cast with the what's new incarnation Always felt like scooby was a pseudo father figure for the orphans, and he would only appear in important episode to help the kids But what it felt great about it was we followed scooby in his adventures, so not another Pokémon trainers that only sees his father a very few episodes
I wish Warner Discovery got their act together. My hope is that they actually have a cool plan of releasing everything on a scooby doo anniversary or something, but I'm not counting on it. This whole situation is annoying and disappointing, I wish the merger never happened.
I know this is SUPER not the place for this, but I can't for the life of me figure out what the play is. What is stood to be gained from pushing the common person farther and father into alienation? Month after month, year after year, we are being handed more and more garbage, being told to eat it. What in the world is going on in the... world. I could have worded that better, but I have decided to commit.
Young Justice was apparently one of the first victims of the slaughter, which makes the murder of Scooby-Doo and Krypto Too even MORE insulting and tragic.
Why doesn’t WB just release this made-to-order on DVD through their Warner Archive label? Costs less than a buck to make and they can sell it for 20 bucks and make a profit.
it might sound harsh, but 'abusing the system' is absolutely an accurate assessment. they know its automated, and that's why they're doing this. they know people will have no defense.
Just found the download for it on reddit last night after seeing this video. I have to say this was honestly one of the best scooby doo movies to be released as of late. (Animated wise) it legitimately gave me some laughs throughout it. Shame it will never get an official release
Probably to make it so no one compares Velma to real Scooby Doo. Velma completely bastardizes the franchise not to mention how it’s just an unfunny show too
I am glad ppl can see the hard work that ppl put into making this film, but I'm so sad the staff won't get their full possible pay from residuals. It's such a ridiculous loss if human time, effort, energy, and money that these projects are just getting the rug pulled out from under them
