Ive never actually yarned under a whole project to see HOW MUCH of a difference it would make. But I do like the look. But I also think yarn over can look just as good and it's really only avid crocheters that'd be able to tell a difference, in my opinion. Doing markets is A LOT so I understand the hesitation, but it is a good way to get rid of some of the stuff you've made. Though, if you decide not to sell, you could always donate to a women's shelter. A lot of times those women have children that would really love some new toys. And I absolutely understand where you're coming from when you say you were concerned about clicking on the video because it seemed negative, but I'm going to copy and paste what I said to someone else about it to hopefully provide context into why it's meant to be a bit clickbait-y, but not necessarily actually dishonest. This is what I said: "Yeah, I feel you and I fully understand. It's always a little dangerous to be semi clickbait-y. However, it is a technique that does usually increase views, so I use it. But I'm never blatantly dishonest the way some people are. I always try to immediately say what the video is about, to clarify what I mean by the clickbait-y title/thumbnail, right at the top of the video. Like, in this instance, the book really IS so much more than I thought it would be. And I am disappointed in the fact that I thought it would just be a plain ole pattern book, because I know how thorough her Etsy patterns are (which explains the text on the thumbnail, and what I ACTUALLY meant by it). And I did tell the truth about her book, that sh*t is THOROUGH. Like, it's soooo good!!! It covers everything from her design process, to accessories/clothing, to how to make really good faces for your amigurumi, and don't even get me started on all the body options! GENIUS! So, that explains the actual title of the video. I just try to not be scummy about it, because while I like views, I don't want to actually be nasty about something or super fake. Like I'd never just put "this book sucks." and then tell you in the video how much it doesn't, because there's no reason to pretend to lie to get views. But I might do something like "does this book suck!?!" as a question, and then answer the question right at the top of the video, "no this book sure doesn't suck!". Because I know people who were just looking for shock value/negativity will leave right away (and I don't want people like that in our community) and those who are interested in actually finding out about the book will stay and hear all the good things about it. I hope that makes sense and gives you some insight into why some of my video titles/thumbnails are the way they are!" Aside from all that, welcome to the world of amigurumi! Doing blankets and doilies and wearables is so impressive to me though! Those kinds of projects are usually much more detailed and involved so I heavily praise anyone who does them because I like the amigurumi that's relatively simple so I can finish in a few days haha. If this is your first real amigurumi crochet book, it's a really good one! It's definitely the most "modern" one I've seen highlighting newer techniques in the amigurumi world like using felt for the eyes and cheeks, or using blush for the cheeks or on the inside of rabbit ears for added dimension. And she gets fairly in depth about embroidering facial features like eyelashes, eyebrows, noses, etc. Of course, embroidery is a classic technique for facial features, but it's just shown better in this book than other amigurumi books I have.

Your thumbnail was totally okay. It was my thought that went to the negative. Why? Conditioning maybe. Says a lot, right. Thanks for your response. P.S. I find thread and worsted weight yarns are my happy place. A project that takes days or weeks to finish means I get to enjoy the process a bit every time I have the time. My first amigurumi items were actually done in cotton or worsted. That naturally led to blanket type yarn. Plush yarns tend to shed and very often the stitch’s are impossible to see. Forget frogging, lol. On the positive side plushies are just fun! I love giving them to kids. They are soft and cuddly. I expect that I’ll get around to Tunisian crochet too.

@Hookstohugs Yeah, for sure. I won't lie. Sometimes I like some tea about things that aren't super serious. But I can't follow channels that are straight up always negative and drama. People's vibes tend to affect my vibe, so I just can't. But I do kind of have to try to get views so RU-vid continues to show my videos to people. But I also don't want to be actually dishonest in the thumbnail, and I have no reason to lie once you're actually watching the video lol. So there'd be no point in that. Plus it would take more effort to always be acting on camera and have to remember my lies. So I just turn on the camera and talk about things that are like currently going on with me. Like I got this new crochet book and it beyond exceeded every expectation I had. And in the video before that, I ranted about pricing because I just hate that so many people genuinely accept underpricing as the norm even though it holds them back from greater success. It genuinely bothers me lol. And I like to show stuff about my crochet events and patterns I use. And believe me, it's fun/enjoyable, but RU-vid is already A LOT of work. I don't want to make it even more work by making it more complicated haha. All that to say, I totally understand where you're coming from.

I was months into having my RU-vid channel before I started writing patterns! You could document your journey getting into pattern writing if you wanted too!!! Lol I know it's a dangerous game to do that little click bait kind of thing that I did. But, I would NEVER actually trash a fellow crochet business owner/mom, even if I had something that I didn't love that they did/said. The closest you'd get out of me is just a video post about how I don't agree with them, that's it lol. But All From Jade is top tier, no real complaints here haha. She's very thorough in her work.

It's a little early to think about, but this book could make a good Christmas gift from someone! Or if you have a birthday coming up!!! It's really good and the videos for the different techniques seem pretty clear/thorough (though, it's hard for me to judge them now from the perspective of a beginner, since I'm passed that point). But there's text explanations, picture explanations, and video explanations for the techniques you'll need to get you through the patterns, so I think it should be thorough enough for you to at least UNDERSTAND what you need to do. Though, I'm sure you know that understanding what to do, and actually getting your hands to do it are two different things when you're first getting started lol.

I definitely found new techniques that I'd never seen before. But then again, I'm new to the embroidering faces game, so that's not QUITE saying much. But, I found it very informative personally!

This book would make an awesome Christmas gift!!! It really is thorough. Some pattern books are really just 10-20 patterns and some basics like how to select hook size and yarn size, but this was so much more in depth!!! And so inclusive of more modern day crochet techniques, like using felt eyes and actual make up for blush. It's just so good!

I do love me some foxes. A fox was actually the very first pattern I created!!! And yes, I was already sold on buying the book, but when I saw that little section, I was like "DANG, this is amazing!!!" And yes, absolutely you should get into patterns! Think about it this way, once you write up the pattern and get it online, it's basically passive revenue every time it sells!

I feel like people who sell a lot of patterns are also social media pros and do a good job promoting themselves so people can find the patterns. I have my channel here but "good at social media", I am not 😅 then again you never know until you try!

@@Lauraetcetera Well, that's the rub. It CAN be lucrative. You can make one pattern sell it thousands of time and you only did the work to make the pattern once. Example, look at the Oak and Marlow chicken pattern. Everyone and their uncle bought that pattern. The creator has NINE THOUSAND REVIEWS just on that pattern and only about 1/4 people actually bother to leave a review. HOWEVER, it takes work to get there. It takes learning how to "do" social media. It takes learning photography to be able to take good product pictures for your Etsy, your website, social media, etc. Some people are naturally good at stuff when they try it out, but no one was born knowing how to run all aspects of a business. You just research and practice. I'm just a regular person and I've been able to scale my business a lot in less than 2 years, and believe me, there are people who know WAY MORE. There are people who are WAY further ahead. Like All From Jade and even Katie Being Creative or Crochet by Genna. But, I've seen results for my efforts into learning. I went from ZERO videography experience to monetized on RU-vid in about 4 months and over 3000 subscribers in just over a year. I've made more money and sales online and at markets this year than I did last year. And that's another thing, patterns ARE passive income, once you put it up, it can sell over and over without you having to do any work. BUT you make that income only a few dollars at a time. Whereas, you can make money by the hundreds of dollars doing markets, but that is DEFINITELY not passive income. It takes A TON of work haha. So, generally speaking, it all comes into the amount of effort you want to put into something.

I've been on RU-vid since 2020 and only recently hit 2000 subs, although I know my problem which is the inability to stick to one topic. I'm all over the dang map with too many hobbies and subjects I try to cover....not that you asked lol Ok, you've sold me. I'm going to give it a go, because who wouldn't love some passive income? Also did you mention you have a facebook group? What is the name of it?

I feel that. When I first started and didn't know what I was really doing, I was doing both. I don't remember in which order. But I would either insert into the next stitch, yarn under, pull through, then do the final yarn over pull through or visa versa. But either way, it was both within the same single crochet lol. But now I'm yarn over all day. It would take a lot of focus to yarn under a whole project haha.

It really is so good! And I should have known it was going to be thorough because her Etsy crochet patterns are REALLY good. She's always going over the size everything will be in different yarn weights, and showing all different color variations for everything. But I was still blown away by just HOW good it is. It's the first really modern amigurumi book I've seen. I've definitely not seen every single amigurumi book every, but out of the large number I have seen, I've never seen one so thoroughly cover felt eyes/cheeks, facial embroidery, adding actual blush, AND even giving insight into her design process. I've also never seen one with the patterns laid out how they are, with one head, but 5 body options. Like, that's GENIUS. 12/10. Really 200/10. I sincerely mean it when I say she set the bar SO HIGH for me and all future crochet books.

I can see your point about that. It really is just as simple as just changing colors to the patch color in random spots. There's not technically a "correct placement" for them. But when you're newer to crochet, it can be hard to visualize what area of the body you're working on though and it might look a little odd if you put a patch on the center of the forehead lol. So, that is a solid point. But, coincidentally, that caused you to skip over a "beginner" pattern for a "hard" one because of the missing information.

I don't consider myself a total beginner. However, you're right, I can't visualize where in the pattern to place the patches. I'll just have to figure it out as I go. Loved your video though

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by your comment? I mean, it wasn't what I expected. I've seen a lot of crochet books, they're all quite similar. This book follows that format to a point, but it's more in depth. And I explained how it differed from other crochet books, and what was included in it, and what parts I was particularly fond of.

Oh no! It does look really short! I didn't even really notice haha. It's just pulled into a pony tail! Though, fun fact, I actually had the side of my head shaved for like 7 years. And at one point, I had very short hair, think like Miley Cyrus's Wrecking Ball era. But I'm like 70 lbs heavier now so my face is so much more round and that would look not great now haha. Though, I really don't think it looked particularly good then. It's just like a right of passage in cosmetology school to chop off all your hair.

Faces ARE hard, I have so much respect for people who really get into them and can do them well because I sometimes feel like the more I mess with them, the worse they look haha.
