Conversely Warren brings up there are inequality of opportunities and that's what we have. Give people in the inner city those same opportunities as whites and you'll see a change. Telling someone "all you have to do work hard" is not realistic.

@@JaeWest Giving the inner city kids the same opportunity as "whites" isn't the answer. As long as they don't change their frame of mind, opportunities will be wasted. this question about capitalism is one i ask myself all the time. although it has given people so much, such as modern medicine, convenience through technology and higher standards of living, it does feel as though so many issues are falling through the cracks, such as externalities not being accounted for in the case of the environment, problems with producing at scale and social inequality. so even though this question was asked just as i was born, it feels as though questions about capitalism have always existed. i thought there was a lot of depth in warren's answer, where the market, even though seemingly flawed in ways, is usually able to provide to provide better societal outcomes, and hopefully as these externalities are captured by the market, there would be more for people to look forward to in the future. even if capitalism isn't perfect, its still the best system we have

Indiscriminately throwing large sums of money at poor people or a government makes you neither a good man or a wise man. And it makes the situation 1000 times worse when you force other people at gun point (governemtn action) to follow you. There is many risk associated with bigger governments inefficiency, slower growth, greed, you run the risk of throwing good money after bad ect.. the list goes on.

Capitalism is not a political system as such it's just the principle of free allocation of valuables like money and goods! We can put some restraints on this freedom and we do, but we should always remember that the alternative to freedom is not "a better world" but less freedom, and that these constraints on freedoms are made by people with political agendas as opposed to the free market reacting according to some apolitical and unknowable market mechanisms!
@lemisosaroni8857
@lemisosaroni8857 9 месяцев назад
Right - to an extent. However, when capitalism matures to the extent of monopoly, does that not begin to constrain the concept of free allocation & freedom? On the other hand, the intriguing part is that there is no other viable alternative to capitalism. . . yet.

I think it's uncomfortable for these two to admit that they have been disproportionately rewarded for doing nothing more than moving money around from one place to another. Nobody can say that this is a fair system, when you need people to sweep the streets, empty the dustbins, keep the electricity running, who get paid a tiny fraction of the amount that people do for moving money around from one place to another as investors.

I would say that the bottom 20% would probably be better off here in the Netherlands than in the US seeing that we have a better social security system than the US, in which I do not feel any pride. So why we do not have a problem with mass migration from the US is probably due to people like Warren perpetuating the myth that the US is the world's heaven. :P I would agree though that in terms of opportunity you are probably better off in the US than in the Netherlands. We have a ruling class that claims to want to reduce rules that prevent the market from working but they always vote for more rules. Although I do have American friends who claim they would rather want to live over here.

@Nyperia
@Nyperia 5 лет назад
Why do they need to defend it? Through smart answers and questions they allow the person listening to answer, the questions and thoughts raised, themselves instead of saying socialism is bad and capitalism is great. These 2 made unimaginable money through capitalism so I don't really understand why you would say such things. Instead of giving you an answer they provoke thoughts and ideas in your mind which is 100x times better than giving you a straight answer. Open your mind, try not to hate and appreciate the fact these 2, especially Warren, are very public, helping and sharing their gems which they have learned over 70+years involved in the economy of the world basically.
@Nyperia
@Nyperia 5 лет назад
And I think you are in no position whatsoever to call Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger pathetic. Even though I wouldn't call you pathetic, if anyone here is in fact pathetic, that person would be you. But I won't do that because I have no idea who you are, and even if I would, nobody is "pathetic".
@kevinlu5571
@kevinlu5571 5 лет назад
If you came here for a defense of capitalism it's no wonder you were disappointed. I wouldn't call it a "defense" so much as "a set of accurate observations." I much prefer these two to Friedman because they are rich yet are aware of the shortcomings of the system that made them so.
