@@Plutoguru Good companies have low debt, free cash flow, products that people buy and love, have a long history. I would suggest reading the investment book Intelligent investor by Benjamin Graham. Buffett actually trained under Graham and that is were he learned to buy value. You can actually value shares as in what their real price is. You would be surprised to find that many companies are not at their real value.

Like Warren Buffet said, dividends are only good if the business you're investing into can't make good use of that capital. So, if you're trying to invest in businesses with actual growth, looking at dividends is a waste of time. Why are you investing into a company if they're returning capital to you because they think you can make better use if it than they can. It's not much different from bond investing. The way I see it, if you have a $1 million at some point, that'd be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between 50k - 70k in dividend income.

Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over 250k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are alot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look.

Very true! I've been able to scale from $50k to $189k in this red season because my financial advisor figured out defensive strategies that help portfolios be less vulnerable to market downturns

There's a hidden gem here on Warren's purchase of the 'Atled' stock - I've never seen this covered in any of his biographies or elsewhere. Fascinating. Thanks for uploading

@@simonemazzarella5232 I think this is what happened. They bought land with the share issue which they used to hunt ducks in Louisiana. But one time a fellow shot at the floor instead of upwards and oil and gas spurted out. Then some other company came in and they collected royalty from that company. Share price was 29,000 and it earned 11,000 per share pre tax and had 20,000 in cash per share, so yea efficient market theory's a joke. Oh yea i think some time after that the stock reached a high of around 1,000,000 per share

@@simonemazzarella5232 I just saw your comment now. The video explains it all - he purchased the Atled stock at $29,000 a share when it had cash of $20,000 and was earning $11,000 pre-tax. That's a clear example of a mispriced stock and a refutation of the efficient markets theory (no real business owner would sell you his/her shares on that basis unless he/she was under distress). There are hundreds of examples like that today. You just have to search and invest in them.

Buffett and Munger never give any advise on how to pick stocks. There are no magic formulas, but there are general principles. And today is easier then in their time, because you can use a screener instead of reading all the Moodies report. Low debt to equity, good earnings growth in the previous years and good price earnings growth ratio normally let you find good oportunities, even if you can't go deeper than this.

@Aubatron
@Aubatron Год назад
Actually it is both easier and harder. Information is easier to get your hands into, but there are less opportunities because now everyone has that information. In the past, just reading through all of the small businesses gave you an advantage, today even with a screener, that advantage has diminished. You need to do less work, but you’ll also find less opportunities today. So it is both easier and harder today.

Buy low cost, globally diversified, market cap weighted ETFs and you'll outperform almost everyone.

I strongly disagree. Buying a) a concentrated portfolio of hated or misunderstood names with ok balance sheets or b) buying a larger number of net nets trading below tangible book value as Buffett or Schloss did will continue to work way better.

A duck club is when people get together to buy wilderness land, so they can go duck hunting. In this case, they found oil on the land and so were making money off the oil leases.
