Wow! Nice lesson, wicked shredding! I've been a Warren fan since '84 when Cellar came out. I saw Ratt live a dozen times from '86 to '99. Warren always kicked butt live. Speaking of the whammy aspect of the solo, as far as I remember, Warren was one of those guys who always set his Floyd's flush, which certainly helped with tuning stability and resonance.
Notice you have the Eventide or a slight modulation on it that is only heard really on the Rock Palace show. I never heard it used on the studio recordings the same.
Chorus is a tricky one. Like Ed said, make it wild sounding then back it off a touch. I'm sure they found a better rack or the producer got in their ear.
Hey there Doug This is really great! I've seen many take on solos from Ratt songs, but no one seems to tackle Warren's live unaccompanied solo stuff, which is quite stylistic to say the least. If you get a chance, please check out his live Ratt unaccompanied guitar solo. I'd love to get your take on some of those pieces. Not sure if this helps, but Warren is also known for his 4-note-per string technique
@@dougsteeleguitar Right on! 3 versions - similar/same but with some different intros parts ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aplEw2Oilz8.html (live solo at 21:55) probably the clearest) that part at 22:07 sounds like 4 notes per string?? part at 22:50 (very odd?) though a signature live solo lick others versions ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-su5uvRfey90.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_FSS6brrrDk.html in any case, one of the best unaccompanied solos out there!
Uli does that style of descent ALL the time - certainly to good effect in Pictured Life where he plays both descending (F# aeolian) and ascending (G# diminished seventh) licks. Never really listened to much Ratt, I might add some into my playlists.
only thing about ratt thats even remotely interesting is warren, i wouldnt say they were the greatest band ever and most of the songs sound pretty derivative of others. He is a huge uli fan and even has a story about calling uli when he was in high school with some buddies of his
@@dougsteeleguitar i honestly think he was real nervous but then again i wouldnt be surprised if he was, andy aledort the guy who interviewed him is a great player and has done loads of transcriptions and interviews for guitar magazines over the years
@@MercutioUK2006 there’s a great vid of warren and michael schenker jammin together thats pretty cool, i honestly think warren got his vibrato from listening to schenker
