Well the Tilbury speech had everything! Heart and stomach. Now you’re talking. One of my ancestors was the first to translate the Mabinogion into English. I love it for all of the fanciful fluff. My paternal grandfather was in the south Wales borderers and was badly wounded in Normandy fighting, as you say, for king and country. I grant that Wales is indeed a principality and, just as the Cornish and Yorkshiremen are justly proud of their land and their heritage but will always remain British, the Welsh will always remain British. But Wales is not England and I do think there is something very special about that albeit you seem to disagree. We all know that Scotland is a separate country but Wales also has a status which is elevated above that of the counties and shires of England I believe. Llewelyn could have called himself a king but elected to use the title ‘prince’ but look, this was a bloody long time ago. We’re it not for the fact that speaking Welsh was once cruelly punished and a concerted effort was made by the English to erase it, the language would not be so strongly pushed in schools today. It shares Celtic roots with with the Breton language still spoken in parts of Brittany and was certainly not the invention of Lloyd-George, tho he may have added to it and revised it to some degree- I trust that I will be able to research this. I’ll have a look- I trust you. Mostly I’m sorry to hear your appraisal of the state of disunity in Wales but to me that makes it all the more important to be able to come together and wave a flag and get behind a rugby team or even a football team… why not?! I’m not going to start watching the NFL.
@@simonharding3109 same old trope, heard it before the world cup, where Wales will struggle is experience, because it's a young squad, but if they can win their first game, could have a good six nations.
