Considering the claims wigan funded the dominant team of this era there is a substantial local talent in this side. Both Iro and Bell were relatively unknown imports. Of course the jewel in the crown was Ellery Hanley. Mike Gregory was brilliant against his home town and it is a shame he never got to wear the cherry and white.

This was a sad time for British RL. Total dominance on the pitch and financially by Wigan. Whenever a decent player came along, he was poached by Wigan...Billy McGinty, Offiah etc. Thank god we have more level playing field these days, even Wigan fans got bored with winning everything.
@@tonydo9136 I agree that Wigan took the game to a new level but it was the salary cap brought other teams up. Wigans dominance also nearly bankrupted them too. Not good for any sport to just have one side winning everything.
What a daft comment. Coincided with GB being about as close to Australia as they’ve been in 50 years. Dubious obstruction by meninga away from regaining the ashes at old Trafford later that same year. Look at the gulf now with the UK salary cap both spreading the talent around too thin and being far too little to stop rah rah and NRL poaching the best talent.
@@matthewconnor6817 So you would prefer one team being dominant, winning everything and hoovering up promising talent from any other club if it meant we gave the Aussies a close game every few years. Not good for the remaining clubs. Far better to have a competitive league as we do now.
