I for one think it would make Spear interesting, if it got the melee attack mode that some other professions get with Spear and on Warrior it should deal most damage when used in melee, however the area of effect should increase the further you throw the spear, meaning it becomes a choice between dealing max damage but do no AOE or deal min damage for max AoE. Then give Spear a gab closer and a gap increase skill, so we can switch between desired range to the enemy. If you are dealing with a swarm of enemies, you increase the gap for most area of effect and when you have only but one enemy remaining you close the gab for max damage.

It's not going to be a "protest." Rifle has a better "mechanic" of reloading ammunition attached to it rn, and I would literally rather use it than Spear how it previewed imo.

@@ATinyLegoBlock I agree :) I also think rifle at least works with BS. I actually went with my warrior to dungeon in ascalon to test the spears and for me rifle did more dmg on a singletarget boss than spear, with the same build. Maybe I did something wrong though :) I am a little sad, that even if the spear was good and likeable(which it isnt) I still think it would only be a niche weapon :/ as in most strikes/ new fractals you hit exactly 1 oponent for 99% of the time. Dont know about WvW though How do you guys feel about the numbers?

Spear swipe could be changed to use a ground targeting so you can choose where you want the wave to go and therefore the direction where your character will be dodging. Disrupting throw on the other hand can get the ground targeting and the piercing aspect removed and get its projectile logic changed to be a normal target tracking projectile, from my testing on some uneven terrain like when your target was too close to a wall it could fail to hit it since it tries to follow the terrain elevation. It could be turned into a single target skill that if your target was impalled previously then it will stun the target instead and blast a daze effect around the target.

It be awesome if Warrior are the only one that don't get spear at lanch but get some quest to clime the mountain, rush the river and then get it with a true polish inspired by the community suggestion.

didn't know the knockback on skill 3 was so little. I never hit them with the follow up knockback because I evaded away from them...

the biggest issue i have with spear on warrior is that i have to play fucking csgo to be able to hit any enemys in the first place caus everything needs to be aimed and when they are fast running around and know what they are doing 80% of all the skills have no chance of hitting the enemy...

part of it is 3/4 sec casttimes. they don't make sence with spear's AoE sizes.

Quick spear grades per elite after about 10 hours of it. Spellbreaker, A. If you told me spear was made primarily for Spellbreaker, I'd belive you. Everything synergize nicely. Core and Berserker, B. Spear isn't to bad on core since you can actually make use of addredline generation in arms with spear CC and immobilize. Spear kit allows a lot of synergy with a lot of base warrior trait lines, which would be better praise if they were modernized (looking at you body blow). The extra attack speed on while in berserker makes the auto attack feel good. While berserker burst is basically "volley but good", idk, it's not going to be a big meta skill but still fun. Bladesworn, C. Spear is just a worse gunsaber for bladesworn. It doesn't synergize with the class mechanics at all or provide any defensive utility. Its similar to playing dual Dagger berserker. You can do it, but you know it's a sub part option. Some minor opinions. The range system could remove the middle tier and work exactly the same. There isn't much decision making regarding range. Being close or far away is more decided by the flow of battle and not running in or out for an effect. Maybe if the mechanic was "condi melee, power range" it would matter more, but it's not something I ever thought about while playing. The only thing I want for spearmarshal support (besides better tracking) is that each hit grants 1 to 2 stacks of might 340 range around target. Doing so would make the skill have some "support" to it, and make it work really well with "mending might" in a team fight and "might makes right" in a 1vs1

Honestly just make the burst like the underwater skill 5 of spear. Love me some spin to win. Also I like the impaler sword mechanic. However, i would replace might with different effects. Like Fury on skill 3 to make it feel like a good set up for next attack or applying weakness/cripple on skill 5

I think the knockback should be 360 degrees with no jumpback. Also did anyone else notice the umm what ever aiming spear skill with the arrow you have to be exactly on the line to hit. That is ridiculous

The warriors glass isnt half full nor half empty, it is completely empty. Less use that! I know that this might sound harsh, but I would scrap the spear and start again. The absence of any mechanicle design on the current spear opens up the possibility to still include already existing skills, yet it presents the unique advantage that you dont have to stick to your already exhisting effort. here is why, comparing to the engi shortbow: the weapon purpose long distance power cleave - we have that in meele and we have a condi version for longbow (comparing engi, long distance heal didnt exist) what might be missing is a 2 handed meele condi or a mid to longdistance heal/support weapon [this doesnt mean I want any of it] The execution of porpose - the long distance cleave is designed weirdly making it feel over all worse. As Captain Crapface pointed out. it would be better without the close to longrange scaling stuff (engi shortbow was also not executing its job well because of the clunkyness of the underlying mechanic) The additional mechanic [arena apparently wants to add an additional mechanic to all there new weapons, because of the design philosophy]- this doesnt exist on warrior (not as engi shortbow with the essences) I dont see why one should try to salvage the design as it is now, there is little design at the current point. That is a benefit considering that with the engi shortbow it was hard to rework it in a way that fits the essence of the weapon and also fullfills the purpose. warrior spear has no essence nor purpose so lets give it one!

Well Crapface, i gotta say i really like your idea of replacing the mechanic they came up with to a modified "impale" version But while we're brainstorming, your idea inspired me. Considering ArenaNet loves weird mechanics i figured making your suggestion weirder could work. So hear me out and tell me whatcha think, yea? Spear is ranged. First activation of the "impale" skill makes you throw it. *Second* activation makes you _rush to the impaled target_ and rip it out. Now you're in melee range, so your auto attack is melee. Maybe your #2 and #3 skills turn melee too. Pressing the "impale" skill in melee mode does _something_ (daze, stun?) and on second press you *_YEET_* a spear that pushes them back, instantly creating range. And now your #1, #2 and #3 skills are ranged again Bam, there's the mechanic. Combined with your impale mechanic it should be convoluted enough for Anet to like it Too much? It's probably too much. But hey, it's fun dreaming up stuff like this. So whaddaya think? Could my little addendum to your idea work/be fun? Or would it be _too_ convoluted 😀

Spear im gonna miss u...... this weapon was good and fun to play in PvP on spellbreaker ^^ (GS/spear Defence was my favorite but spear/Dagger Sword strength and defence where also realy fun xd)

Yeah, spear enables fun mobile-skirmisher playstyle, its only sad the weapon is less than a shadow of what it could be.

how about make the 1 skill hybrid , like with the ranger. 2 skill melee flurry like the water . 3 skill to be the same as the current 4th. and the 4th skill to be a leg swipe. in half circle, 5th spell. to be a charge like with the gs , if u hit , u stab and lift someone up before slamming the enemy down. much like the mesmer ele or necro spells that make ppl levitate before slamming them down, but the physical version of that... lastly the f1 can stay the same too ...

In my pragmatism I went the path of least resistance. If I assumed we have time and resources, I'd also suggest picking someone up on the tip of the spear as CC, though i extend that into ground targeted launch.

Yeah, I had similar thoughts to these. And I'm not a fan of copying other games, but I kind of had the Templar from ESO in mind when I thought of warrior with spear. A long throw with knock down, a medium distance lunge/charge, and a full sweep. Seems pretty easy and fits with the spec.

Warrior spear really needed to be backed by a full elite spec, current specs aren't really able to fully support a ranged weapon.

Disagree, both Berserker and Bladesworn are fully capable of supporting ranged weapons. Its just the sad reality that only moderatly good ranged warrior weapon is condi, and still a bit whacky.

​@@captaincrapface7337 Zerker offers no range support what so ever, all rage skills are melee range so you wouldn't be able to maintain zerker mode while at a distance outside of pairing it with a rifle but that would leave you super vulnerable. Bladesworn definitely has more potential, With gunblades mobility you could comfortably maintain distance, paired with aegis reflects and flicker step teles. Tried it with rifle before but it's just way to slow. (side note tactical reload should work on all warrior weapons >:c)

My expierience with old [Arc Divider] boilde down to getting CC'd midway trough it, becouse for people with good reactions first spin was just a prompt to fire up their CC. Old Arc was in spirit what [Hundred Blades] should have beent, so I get the nostalgia, though i would lie if I said old one was withaout a flaw.

Reddit tends to downvote everything-warrior because all discussions get reduced to "They're Unga Bunga Monkeys lol" and the 3 people who go "yeah I like damage" get upvoted, while the 18 people trying to make coherent points and explain that Warrior is actually pretty complicated get dumped and downvoted to Tartarus. + I know the mods aren't fans of just people using it as a "repository to only advertise your stuff." And it does get eyeballs, which helps. And it gets exposure, so as long as you're also contributing to their community / commenting on other shiz I don't think they have a problem with it. :D

So Crapface, who do you know at ArenaNet that you can send this to? Or perhaps i should ask "which GW2 RU-vidrs do you know that got the clout/pull to send this to ArenaNet"? Cause your ideas are good, and I'm pretty sure they're what the majority of warriors feel. But unless your words reach the devs nothing will change. So, how does the GW2 (warrior) community get your message across?

I disagree with the skill 5 rework proposed as i think the weapon needs multihits for the adrenaline gen. wild throw maybe should be spear 5 and spear Marshall with dragon tooth tracking being the primal burst skill.

I included 2x adrenaline for hitting impaled target with anything as part of the concept, + dash would technically hit twice against impaled target, due to [Rip] auto proc. Regardless if you considered that or not, your opinion is valid and your idea is as good as mine. I'd still bitch about 2.5 sec casttime, but that's still an improvement.

@@captaincrapface7337 i considered the boost from 2 times adrenaline but that would still require 15 hits to get max adrenaline and having only auto attacks as a reliable skill would feels very annoying to build. My opinion anyways. and i can't really pass on the idea of multi hits on a spear like underwater spear 2.

The skills in the game that can be dodged just by running in a straight line is absolute 💀The 3 spears I tried were thief, warrior and engineer and all of them were a total mess. I'm actually going to extend my GW2 break until next season. What a mess of a game this is 🤣 The most important thing is to never let a QA to be in charge of anything creative or you end up like Guild Wars 2

yeah i dont like this new bow weapon warrior got... wait its a spear? doesnt feel like one. jokes aside i would have loved if they gave a hunters approache to the weapon, maybe 2 jumps for 4 and 5 skills, maybe even an invisibility mechanic just for the memes. warrior spear is pretty bland thats my take.

I'd speculate on which of thease two seems worse in compairson, but can understand Re'v main's dissapointment. Skill 5 being deliberatly made spammable, yet having high energy cost... is counterintuitive to put it lightly.

They should have let the warrior wield the spear as either a one handed or two-handed weapon, with the number 3 skill changing based on your off hand. I know Anet is hard on budget, but if the ele can have 20 new skills, I'm sure the warrior could have like 5 more on the top the the two-handed wield.

Been playing this game for 11 nearly 12 years and Its been YEARS since Ive been as disappointed as I was with Warrior Spear. It feels like a worse rifle with less damage and some how even more awkward to use, and the poorly designed skill shots on 2 and 4 leave much to be desired. The only way to consistently land 4 was literally throwing it while in someones hitbox. The only positive in the kit i can note is Spearmarshal's Support and even that is flawed with your enemy being able to WALK out of range of it, you can barely setup a Spear 5 combo because of the shitty "mechanic" making timing almost impossible to nail down outside of stun combos. I will be waiting for impactful changes but unless its a massive rework I don't see spear game play feeling any less awkward to use. Also For a 2H this weapon has very little impact especially for the "Ranged Damage" role its trying to fill and barely fucking synergies with a lot of Warrior's kit. Also the Berserk Burst skill just being Flaming Flurry....come on Arena Net, do better please.
