They are going to need more thsn just ncaa tournament games to keep the lights on...im a life time oaklander...but its time to tare it down build something nice for the A's and atleast try to hold on to what we can
king sosa That would actually be a terrible idea. I’m Oakland born and raised too and I think the A’s can still build their new stadium without tearing Oracle down. Oracle still has a lot of life in it. The Forum In LA (Inglewood) is almost exactly the same age as Oracle and is still going strong as a concert venue. It would make no sense for the City of Oakland to go from having an adequate, fully operable arena to no arena at all.
Hate to bust PJ Johnston's bubble that "this will be the first privately financed sports arena or stadium on private property in the modern era of sports",BUT he might want to do a little fact checking and/reading up on other stadiums. One inparticular that he should check out is a little known stadium called Gillette Stadium in Foxborough,MA, built between 2000-2002. Robert Kraft paid for 100% of the construction costs of the stadium and it was located on his own land(old Foxboro Stadium property) that he owned PRIVATELY!. That would be 17 yrs ago PJ. Thanks for trying to soften the blow to Warrior fans that due to this being financed privately is an excuse for tix increases. But I'll call you out. In addition, not only did Kraft finance the project himself but he also NEVER imposed those hefty season tix holder seat license fees that many owners did upon opening their new stadiums. Many of which weren't even fully financed privately. So that was a double whammy to those fans. Lets see if the Warriors owners do good by their fans and not add seat licences too. I'd expect tix price increases. That's a no brainer but
+scituguy Foxborough owns the land that Gilette Stadium stands on so its not private property. For the Warriors, they bought the land themselves from a private owner and are building a stadium on that land with their own money. So thestatement that Johnston made is accurate. Maybe you should do some fact checking and research.
Smart guy, looks like I hurt your feelings for you to reply and embarrass yourself like this and I'm not sure what you googled to get your WRONG info but maybe your too young to understand what is and isn't town ownership and perhaps are confusing it with zoning? How else could you be so wrong? But what I said was 100% accurate that Bob Kraft not only purchased the land Gillette Stadium is located on from PRIVATE owners but is owned PRIVATELY to this day by Kraft as it was when he bought it originally.....hee haw I figure you're either just one of those smart asses who likes to think they're right about everything and then comments like a fool OR more likely you're a butt hurt fan because someone rightfully corrected/called out the team you root for's owner for his inaccurate statement/exaggeration. Regardless, sorry to burst that bubble smarty but you couldn't have been more wrong yourself. Bet the house mortgage on it. Bob Kraft''s shrewd business moves to eventually come to own the Patriots has long been chronicled in New England and nationally. Especially around NFL circles which you might not be up to speed on. In any case whether it be found in newspaper or magazine articles and/or online or heard on local sports radio here and nationally, it's pretty public info. You might want to dig a bit more yourself next time before you respond to a post like my original like you did. Here's a tip for you too...Don't eat yellow snow and take some of your own advice to make sure YOU DO some "fact checkin" before calling someone else out for being wrong. What's that old Abe Lincoln saying? ""Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." I've listed a few webpages you might want to read if you'd like backing up my facts and none of them of course support your incorrect opinion. Nope, rather, they just prove that what I said in my original post is true. However, if those aren't enough for you, there's always archive agreements you can pay for to get articles from either of Boston's major newspapers that detail all of Kraft's dealings of all things Patriots including Gillette Stadium, since day 1. To save you time, the quick read will tell you how Patriots owner Robert Kraft purchased the horse racetrack and it's land that inlcuded the parking lots surrounding old Foxboro Stadium from previous land owner Eddie Andelman and his business partners/investors. He/they would be PRIVATE OWNERs thank you very much and NOT the Town of Foxborough......You're welcome. Kraft bought all of it from Andelman in 1996 a couple yrs after completing his amazing ownership purchase of the Patriots. The land was owned PRIVATELY by Andelman and his business partners then, as it is owned PRIVATELY still today by Robert Kraft/Foxboro Realty now. Andelman by the was was a famous sports radio personality in Boston back then and it was no secret to long time listeners like myself, that he wasn't the biggest sports buff even though a sports talk show host. Also well known was that he had a penchant for gambling, the hot dog safari fundraiser, jumbalaya, Vegas & Aruba among other things and the fact he owned much of the land and lots surrounding the old Foxboro Stadium. Which included, as I said, the old horse racetrack and parking lots and land next to old Foxboro Stadium which Gillette Stadium was built on.It was land/facilities owned by PRIVATE businessmen and was purchased PRIVATELY by Kraft and still owned by Kraft today PRIVATELY. @Paul Kryder Touch a nerve their Sally? Cuz I presented some facts on a post that came across either my Twitter or Facebook timeline over a year ago that I responded to in real time??? Hey Paulie, you're little late to the party bub? Talk about getting a life. And don't worry about mine. It's great! In fact, I just got back from Gillette Stadium w/ the kids for yet another Patriots Super Bowl send off rally! That Red Sox World Series title in October seems like 2yrs ago now doesn't it? Yep, life is great living in the City of Champions! And the 6 NBA titles plus 2 more Conf Championships, 3 Stanley Cups + 3 more Conference Championships, 4 World Series titles & 2 more American League Championships and 5 Super Bowls plus 5 more AFC championships in my lifetime makes for a great life when you're a huge sports fan. Thank you! *1 more Super Bowl TBD
Big Smoke Well hockey needs indoor conditions, for sure a definite in california, because without a roof 4 hours before game time the ice will be a giant puddle of water, and since basket ball can fit in a hockey rink they put it there.
The problem with this arena is that the Warriors fanbase in Oakland will have to travel farther to see their team. So, Warriors fans in Oakland might move closer to the arena or commute to games earlier to see their games in an easier way. Thankfully, the crime rate is much lower on the other side of the SF Bay Area and the arena looks really beautiful.
That's funny. The Warriors several years ago got the Oakland Arena gutted out and rebuilt. After Seattle did the same thing to their old arena, Key Arena. They had ownership change, then eventually left for Oklahoma City. Houston was going to follow suit and gut out the Summit. That changed when the team found out that the Summit roof, according to the building inspectors, couldn't support a above court scoreboard. However, Lakewood Church stepped in. Offered to lease out Compac Center. And kept the wrecking ball from blowing it down.
