The 98B Alstom Metropolis trains were designed at the same time as the R142 trains of the New York City Subway, and use the same traction motors despite being built by different manufacturers (the R142 was a Bombardier-built train). The only other trains that use those traction motors are about 2/3 of the R160 fleet and the Washington Metro 6000 series trains (which use a modified version of those motors).
