Is it just me that the brilliant chests either give me 40 astralite, 40 star scrolls or 40 embers. I've never hit bad on them

You have blessed a lot of the purple. I think you should consider blessing the Deep Sea Feast, Pixie's Dream, Midnight Crystal, and Star of the Sea before blessing any more purple artifacts. If you like to run a range front line, taking the range HP from 1.5x to 2x can have a larger affect on the outcome of the battle than boosting the other HPs. You have to take some blues to a minimum of 5 stars to get the generic shards anyway and it is only one more enhance to get the "blessed".
