Great idea. I used an old PNY CS900 SSD 120GB to upgrade in the slot. No need of an adapter. Just fits very close.

Funny little machine I think the addition of a small fan inside is crucial to this kind of machines

thanks for your sharing, i got it about 40 USD from a 2nd market and install a 256 SSD as your way. I install win 10 LTSC and it just work fine. now it's a testing platform on my desk.

When you were installing the new ssd, i believe that screw mount that you covered with electrical tape is removeable and is actually supposed to go in the socket just to the right of it to properly mount the SSD.

THe ones that are wider which allow for a half height PCI Express card are perfect for a PFSense firewall.

If the Sata Extender Cable works, perhaps a sata power splitter and use the single sata port on the board near the battery?

A sandisk x400 ssd 2.5 ssd has a small ssd in the 2.5 hdd case. I have two x400 ssd. one is a 128gb other 512gb. both have the same small foot print of that ssd.

So I bought a Sata Extender Cable, pulled the 16GB eMMC module and replaced it with a 250MB SSD. Works fine. There's no place to mount it, I will pull off the case and have it free floating. I didn't even know a Sata Extender cable existed before 2 days ago...

i seen one of these on youtube they put a fan on the side with a fan quard wouldnt that work to cool it off better to put it up to 1 gb memory for the video

This is not meant to be a production PC, it's for small projects like a firewall, a NAS server, pihole or even a small VM Server for utilities

I just got one of these and set it up with debian, ordered a real supply and some more ddr3 ram. So far so good. Mine has 10600. Might have to check the rtc battery, add new paste and check caps as this was made in 2013... hah!

What power brick did you go with? I know these need 19v bricks but I was wondering about amperage and wattage and such. I can't seem to find a specs sheet from Dell on these. Also could these handle 4k video playback?

Do you have a name and number on that Crucial drive? I have a 240GB drive I pulled apart and the size is double what yours was and can't use it.

So I'm about 9 minute in and I'm seeing you have your SATA mode on IDE. Change that to AHCI and you won't bottleneck the heck outta your SSD. If you can't or do that later in the video I apologize. Also you MAY have to reinstall WhineDoze if you do that but you won't be limited to IDE speeds :D Thanks for the video

Which seller did you buy from? How fast is this processor as compared to Intel, which equivalent Intel version is this, and what generation?

I have about 10 of these to play around with . And as I type am installing windows 10 on there. I got some mini fans to put inside which am about to find a Power source for. I will keep you updated.

yo theres some dell wyse 5060s on ebay right now that while they only have 4gb of ram (can be upgraded with another stick) they have a quad core processor in them same 16gb sata space and its 34ish plus shipping and comes with power brick .. i have one i just bought from them and it runs games way better ..i stuck another 4gb of ram in it

I actually bought WYSE 5010 128GB SSD, 8GB RAM from eBay. Preloaded with Win 10 (probably IoT version?). For $90 with cable and it still has 5 months left with the warranty lol. I wiped it Now I need to figure out why my Ubuntu install ca't finish completely. I use it mainly for IoT and my mesh network controller. Low watt is what I want.. quiet, small factor... and I just ssh. 5010 also has two wifi antena so it's pretty cool.

Comfy workshop/media box ideal for streaming from a server.

hi, I have the same thin client but for some reason, even RU-vid very slows and freeze. I tried different OS (win 7-10) makes no difference . I have 60gb SSD and 8GB RAM DDR3

I bought one of these a week or so ago, it was 20 euro's, but it came with the power adapter so i jumped ship and got it, and i have to say, these things are pretty powerfull for what they are, no they are not core i7 level of performance, but they are not all that slow, i have the 1.4ghz version, but its still a dual core cpu, and the graphics are compareable to a nvidia gt610, which is, for this thing, not too bad actually, this thing can game, i have windows 8.1 installed (x64 version because of the ram), i have tried xp, 7, 8.1 and 10, and 8.1 is the most responsive on my particular machine, so i use that, and it plays older titles very well, like half life, xll (13), return to castle wolfenstein, quake 1, 2 and 3, doom 3 is playable with low settings, but i have the bfg edition installed, and doom 1 and 2 play superb on my model, i have need for speed underground 1 & 2, colin mcrae rally 2005, halo combat evolved, gta 3 & san andreas. All these games are quite playable on this lil machine, and it consumes as much power as a powerfull LED lightbulb, which is insane!

How do I get windows off my laptop onto a USB and uploaded onto this machine? Any links?

Nice review. The only thing is that not all SSDs that you buy come with such a small board on the inside. That means anyone wanting to do this SSD upgrade must be careful which brand SSD drive they purchase. I am wondering if that PICe slot can take a drive or is it an M.2 that is not used. Now many may say because there are two screw holes means its PCIe and not M.2 but if you look at a M.2 2260 or even a 2242 with extended plates, it will fit. I will get one and venture into the Dell Wyse 😂 👍👍👍👍👍

Not sure why everyone wants to see if an inadequate device will play games. A better idea would have been to set this Wyse up in a homelab, have the Wyse setup at a desk and configured to act as a terminal for logging into a home server or even a home desktop/laptop that’s spec’d out with all the RAMs and SSDz. If I wasnt into tech and didn’t know about these Wyse then bought one as a “gaming” anything I’d be pissed.

Not to pick on you but. This doesn't have a hard drive. Hard drive is = Hard Disk. This has a SSD. SSD stand for Solid State Drive. Hard Drive =Mechanical Hard Disk. :)

Pretty stupid video if you specify in neither the subject or the description of your video what exact model you are talking about. There are Wyse systems available which are VERY different from yours.
