I believe the gossip was because she was a woman that lived outside of societies role for women. They tried to make her step in line but she never did. I've always admired her.
I knew Mae West for 15 years. Her brother died in 1964 if heart problems. He was 64 years old. That year Mae got diabetes. I knew her sister as well. Steve Cochran was one of her lovers. He didn’t fool around with other men.
Her biggest fame was well over by the 50s when you are saying she died and family wanted fame to continue by her brother being her. So many huge stars in the 50s, you really think Hollywood would beg for a male Mae West? Get real. She was fabulous.
So you told us the story of Mae West and how colorful she was from her youth onward…. But I waited for you to show some pictures of her pre 1950 and post 1950 to see it there any noticeable differences in them…. This isn’t new, saying a famous woman was really a man… Mother Teresa is one Michelle Obama is another. Why have this discussion when we all can see her movies and enjoy her work.
She's long dead, plenty of people would have spoken about that by now! Too many men and women in show business not to have known that she was not a woman but a man! Anyway, the reason she acted the way she did was due to her admiration for drag queens in Burlesque shows that were quite popular in her era!
There will NEVER be another person like Mae West and NEVER was there during her life anyone who took over the identify of the woman she was until the day she died in 1980.
As a young boy in the 1950's, I was a huge Mae West fan. I always thought she was a riot. I never thought she was sexy. She seemed to be making fun of the whole thing. I don't care if she was a man or not. But, I wish you had made a better case for it if he/she was.
I'm not denying that there have been certain revelations about former celebrities and their sexuality but a lot of the claims are unfounded and wishful thinking just for entertainment purposes. Mae West was a woman and a clever woman before her time.
It's unfair to accuse, criticize , insult those who cannot defend themselves. Male/ female or??? I only see a fascinating, talented, highly $$successful WOMAN STILL talked about after all these decades! Too many men knew the truth and would have exposed her. Miss West STILL l makes me laugh! One of a kind.
All these people are saying they knew Mae West in her prime (born 1893 - died 1980). Back when Hollywood was still making silent movies ( 1894 - 1931). Stop lying.
I love Mae but I've thought for years she was possibly transgender. Having known several drag queens over the years I find your possible explanation plausible. Who knows? It doesn't matter to me, either way I still love her. ❤
I heard the same claim about Barbara Stanwyck. She did have quite a prominent Adam's apple, but women do have them too.. Apparently definitive proof one way or other is the elbow joints. Women's go outwards, men's go inwards.
@@63mckenzie Well she is a very good actress and I have nothing against transsexuals if she is one. But if you look at her face when her hair is pulled back, she really does look like a guy.
@@63mckenzie I have nothing against transsexuals if she is is one. She is a very good actress. But if you look at her face with her hair pulled back she does look like a guy. If you go to "google images" and put in Courtney Love bikini you will see shots of her in a bikini and she looks like a man. It looks like later she had some fat added to the sides of her hips but before that, she looked like a man. She supposedly gave birth to a child though so who knows?
The rumor I heard from the most famous, highest paid transsexuals in the world, was the real Mae didn't like the sexual fame, and her significantly larger brother took over the role shortly after Mae's first few appearances.
If Mae West was a man after a certain point, this really makes the image presented at 2:38 creepier than I could have imagined. I have never liked the entertainment from this period or the America that consumed it. You can have him/her/it...
@@juliethompson5301No. I can't believe the comments here. Some women have more pronounced masculine traits, but are biologically female. Just as some men have feminine traits but possess male genitalia. Been that way forever.
