@RayOSunshine98 right!? Hats off to all the other streamers.. it’s a lot of work! Especially when you have a few disabilities like myself. All these guides are driving me a little crazy though.. 2-months in and not much growth from these guides.. I’m convinced that they want to mislead us so that we don’t grow and they get to hog all the viewers.. before they wanted me to stream on Twitch, then RU-vid, then Twitch.. 😣. Although I’m about to die from poverty, the 5 or 6 loyal viewers that come to every single stream are filling my heart with joy. Gosh this is just such a strong passion and hope that after 2-years of tragedy.. just hope this can finally workout and end all the pain.
Love this transparency, thank you for being clear that streaming doesn’t necessarily translate to video views and vice versa. I’m learning both at the moment and the shock that the two require VERY different skills has been very scary. I’m not driven away by it, but it was shocking. It’s nice to hear someone’s else’s perspective who I respect quite a lot
So glad I decided to sit down and watch this today. I've noticed a lot of benefits of being over on this platform that I wasn't getting on others. I think it really depends on the person, their audience, and their content on whether or not switching is right for them. Personally, I am the happiest I've ever been with content creation on RU-vid. And when you utilize everything YT gives us, I personally feel there isn't a better match!
I use Restream to stream on both platforms. It's not bad, but I definitely need to be better about following through in videos for my live channel and making thumbnails for the streams after.
Been having a lot of conversations with the homies recently about how little lasting impact we feel streams have and that it can feel creatively frustrating to put in a lot of work and planning into a stream for 15-20 people to show up and never have anything further stem from it. RU-vid's ecosystem is really powerful *IF* you utilize it and your time to the fullest potential. Hard to juggle that time but it doesn't mean its not worthwhile to start building it up.
Thanks for another great video, Eljay! I've been watching your stuff for over 2 years now and it's been really interesting seeing you grow as a creator and the streaming and content creation landscape change. Regardless of wherever I end up choosing to put my stuff, I'm happy that you've found something that's working for you both creatively and emotionally!
I was pretty sure you were going to say the biggest loss of them all was losing me as a VIP to the channel. I'm sure it was on the list somewhere. Also, lots of nice insight. I especially like the idea of being a small fish in a big pond with room to grow. That makes a lot of sense.
You can be VIP here. Just stay and engage. We don't need the silly badges here. Btw, some of us keep asking YT to make channel emotes global. You can express your admiration everywhere then. 🎉🎉🎉
this helps alot. already monitized on YT, but all people ever talk about for streaming is twitch. thinking of streaming but the prospect of starting from 0 is daunting.
Thanks for the great videos I’m just getting started and trying to learn all the ins and outs of streaming and making videos and your videos have helped a bunch.
Ive been watching so many of your videos as I've been starting my stream. It reminds me that work is one thing, but loving my work and entertaining chat is key.
I've been debating switching to RU-vid from Twitch recently. I've already been producing shorts. I have a love average viewer count, so I don't think it will really hurt...
Thank you for pointing out that YT content has to be quality content. Made my day. And I would love to see you streaming about tech talk on this channel. I do not watch gaming anymore and appreciate a good talk about content creation. Hugs
i decided to stick to streaming on youtube vs twitch and i'm very excited about the future. that's what motivates me 🤣🥲 i'm banking on where youtube will be in the future of streaming and having my channel be established before then
I agree with you, RU-vid is a very good platform compared to Twitch, you just have to give it time and work hard to do live shows! , on twitch you only depend on the donations and subscriptions made by your followers, if many followers do not see you, you are screwed, here on RU-vid you depend on the quality of your videos and that will be reflected in ads that will give you a lot of money.
Thank you for the inside. I initially want to livestream to Twitch & RU-vid (preferably simultaneously), but recently I decided I would start with RU-vid first, because, exactly as you say, there I have the option to create much more different kinds of content AND the livestreams will remain available. Your video has convinced to stop thinking about also picking up Twitch at some point in the future. Currently managing two channels on RU-vid will be a lot already. And I want those to run well first (and probably only) :) I'm convinced your sponsor deals will come again when you're ready for them! Thanks again for a great video! I wish you a great weekend!
Holy fk Eljay, I never knew it was giving you so much anxiety to stream on Twitch, I only noticed that you looked different; lighter, fresher, brighter? I couldn't quite pick it but you came into videos for this channel looking different in some way and I never mentioned anything because I couldn't explain it. That is a remarkable win my friend. Congrats on getting your life and self back.
Watched a few of your videos and decided to sub. I’m a brand new streamer and I have no idea what I’m doing so I’m trying to figure it out 😂 you seem pretty genuine and helpful. Thanks!
@@0MimiMusic0 true but as he’s always saying in his videos, you have to get on one or two or three platforms and get your content out If want to noticed.
I know I’m making crappy content- I’m a new streamer it’s a steep learning curve and I’m constantly making mistakes, trying to learn from them to improve and watching your channel which is full of really nice advice! So my question is- right now I’m making crappy content on twitch. Should I build up my streaming skills there first before trying to stream on RU-vid? How forgiving is RU-vid for old cringeworthy streams?
I’d build up the skills making videos first :) it’s easier, less pressure, better discovery, and eventually after you’ve learned all those skills you need to be entertaining, you can go live.
I'm a aspiring Gaming creator. I wanna start streaming, from the perspective of a brand new streamer, should I start on twitch or youtube? I really can't decide.
Nice video Eljay, thanks for sharing! So if someone has no fanbase on twitch and yt and is just starting, would you recommend trying for twitch or focusing entirely on yt?
I left twitch in January after 2 years. Twitch really did start feeling like a grind instead of a community like it was supposed to be. It was a bit tough at first but its getting better every week.
I just started streaming, first on YT, now on Twitch... get one viewer on either platform at best. I honestly don't see YT's better discoverability, for a newbie both perform exactly same IMO. I have more subs on YT than followers on Twitch (on my actual main channel that is), but most subs are there for long-form videos.
I started streaming on RU-vid at first but when I found out about all the tools that Twitch has with channel points and other stuff like that I moved over to Twitch. Has that changed for RU-vid?
I don't see a reason to not be on every platform especially since each platform has an image. The image of RU-vid is medium length videos. The image of Tiktok is short videos. The image of Twitch is long videos. People go to these platforms for different reasons. I think it's also easier to rank on Twitch since it's merely a list in descending order meaning as long as the "pond" you are trying to be a fish in isn't absurdly large, you can at least appear on the front page of the listed channels. I decided to remain on Twitch because Twitch is still the meta for streaming as in Twitch is still seen as "the" place for streaming video games, but I still upload VODs to RU-vid, and I still have my primary channel that is focused on shorter guides and tiktok style shorts. I really like what Asmongold is doing with his reaction based "AsmongoldTV" and "Asmongold Clips" where he has almost like a talk show for his rants and reactions and stupid moments. I think segregating your content into separate channels that viewers can sub to and predict what sort of content they're going to see is a good idea for the YT algorithm.
I duel stream on Twitch and RU-vid now, and the RU-vid growth is so much better than Twitch (as in NO growth organically on Twitch). As said in the video, if your making evergreen content on RU-vid the live stream aspect will grow with it.
May I ask and no offense meant, but why don't stream on youtube and twitch at the same time? I know it is somehow possible so I am just asking. Btw nice video
Why bother splitting my audience and attention when I can simply prioritise the one that gives better results. At the end of the day, multistreaming does require an annoying amount of effort, means I need multiple sets of alerts, combine my chats, etc I’ll read out a message I see in one chat, but everyone in the other can’t see it. It’s just too many small issues.
Brands are too important, and they don’t work with Kick. Not to mention Kick offers nothing but money as a benefit, and I don’t care about that, I want to make content.
while I can see and agree with some of your points it seem like this is more of a video about becoming a youtuber instead of a streamer. I know that making content out side of streaming can aid in growth but, if you do streaming cause you like streaming but then spend 90 percent of your time being a youtuber dose that not defeat the purpose. I only say this cause I know people that like streaming but don't like making edited content. Also as a viewer saying people who just chat with the chat are boring and bad content is in my opion wrong cause I don't like watching overly produced streams that have a lot of gimmicks. I some times hop into those kind of streams and for a sec I am like oh this is cool and soon after loose interest cause the feeling is off. Most of the people I like to watch for long periods of time are the people who are relatable and can feel like I am just hanging out with a friend. I mean this is what I think but it seams to me that what you like is making edited content for youtube and also that's what you like to watch and add some of those biases to the way you go about thinking what a streamer should be. I mean there are a lot of people who are successful on all levels of streaming not by making elaborate content but by learning how to be personable and a entertaining person to hang out with.
Great video Eljay. You are always so straightforward and get the message out there. RU-vid ain't easy. The grinding is real on RU-vid. Livestreaming on RU-vid is way different than Twitch. With RU-vid, you must put in a lot of work, do short and long form content plus you need to be creative with unique thumbnails etc...But RU-vid is still a great platform. Content on YT doesn't expire which is so darn awesome.😂 Twitch, vods get deleted after a few weeks. Thanks for this video buddy, much appreciated 👍 Dropped a Like 👍 and subbed buddy.
A few things to note on that: 1. VoDs still expire even if it’s meant for RU-vid content 2. Followers while streaming won’t go watch my RU-vid 3. RU-vid subscribers aren’t likely to head to twitch. So by streaming on RU-vid, and then using that footage to make a video, I not only build a library of VoDs for viewers, but I also don’t try make my viewers leave one platform, for another, and instead all of my content works together. But I said most of this in the video.
That’s what the entire video is about? I literally talk about how I am glad I left and got those views? I have never read a comment so completely missing the point of the entire video.
14:52 No, as a former RU-vid streamer that averaged about 50-80 viewers a stream in 2017 and 2018, those views are counted from the different people that clicked on your stream vod after the stream AND ALSO clicked on the stream while you were live. It's like what twitch does now after a stream, you see the amount of total views that the stream got while you were live as well as from the vod itself. I can tell you this because right after I ended a stream, my vod would be at around 800 views, and would only go up a little after that from people watching some of the good speedruns I had that night, and I know for a fact no one is going to watch a 4 hour vod of me resetting every 3 minutes, let alone 800 people lmao.
No :) this isn’t what I’m referring too, I am specifically referring to an extra offline 1000 views. Just because nobody watches you, doesn’t mean people didn’t go and watch mine. I understand how the platforms work, and thanks to my discovery with shorts and videos I had an extra 1000 after that stream was over.
