I like that Cosmo and Wanda are neighbors and have their own place that you can visit without being a fish… It was getting old Cosmo and Wanda hiding from Timmy’s parents that even the animators stopped caring and just had them blatantly as fairies in the same shot…
The fact that they let the baby character who used to talk like a Pokemon grow up into an adult fairy with his own godkid and distinct personality Alone makes this show a stellar sequel series.
Man I felt the opposite lmao Having multiple characters know about/share fairies to me lessens the stakes, makes the magical world less special, and dilutes hazels unique relationship with Cosmo and Wanda. This would’ve maybe been an interesting series finale, but to end the first season like this feels rushed to me. We barely know the other two characters but we’re supposed to like them and be OK with them being in on this major secret just because they’re Hazel’s friends? Maybe if just Antony knew that would be one thing but the other two just feel tacked on in my opinion. Plus it cheapens the idea of a child needing fairies. Hazel was already teetering on the edge of not really needing them, but rather having this relationship with Cosmo and Wanda because they willingly chose to assign themselves to her, but having her brother and her friends in on the secret diminishes the idea of fairies being a special source of support for kids
@@oreomega2545 Haven't seen it (hell, I JUST learned about it) but that strikes me as they maybe weren't confident they'd get another season out of it.
@@amak1131 The very last scene of the finale was Peri breaking the fourth wall saying "We better get a season 2!" So I don't think you're far off lol hell they have hazel celebrate her millionth wish in this very first season when it took Timmy 8. The whole thing just screamed "let's put this out there cuz we don't know if we'll be able to tackle this later" I also think that hazel might be a bit trickier to write for than for someone like Timmy or Dev when it comes to wishes. She's a lot less chaotic of a wisher since she's a lot more level headed. The budgetary constraints they're working with aren't helping either so I bet they hoped that expanding the cast of characters with access to C&W would give them more story ideas. Honestly it reminds me of how bloated the main cast became in the later seasons with additions like Sparky and Chloe. If they do get a second season, hopefully they can prove me wrong.
@@cajah88 Absolutely, though I wish they would've just focused on delivering a solid season and not on rushing things just because they thought this would be their only shot at doing so. I think the finale and the back half of the season suffer as a result of that fear
This is how a show keep going after you remove a major character from the story. (Some times it feels as if Timmy never left the show but do wish know what happen to Timmy)
I'm personally hoping that Dev didn't actually get his memory wiped since he was wearing his sunglasses, and that seems to be how Jorgan protects himself too. Dev was my favorite character in the show and it'd be a shame to have all of his development taken away like that.
It shocked me how good it was. Peri was an excellent edition, especially with him acting more like early Cosmo. This is how you make a sequel. Also, they always had an issue with transitioning to 3D (Jimmy Timmy Power Hour, live action, etc) so to see them being able to pull off this art style is very impressive
A lot of people theorized that Dev didn't get his mind wiped as he was wearing his trademark shades and the look on his face was more surprised and dazed when compared to Dale's face after the memory erasing flash.
Why throw all that development away. We got to develop a love story between Dev and Hazel. I believe we will see them grow up, not stay 10 years old like Timmy
@@suzygirl1843 Though they could also pull a remy with this one, OR considering Hazel used her rule free wish to have her friends and brother: "keep their memories and be allowed to know about fairies forever".. Have it so once they become friends... The wish retroactively affects him. Undoing the mind wipe. An unintentional side effect, that could TOTALLY backfire if she befriends someone who is secretly evil.
what i like about this reboot is that they took all the problems with the original and fixed them its still a silly show about a kid and their fairies but they actually expanded the lore and the actions of characters have consequences it isn't just resolved in one episode also the side characters aren't just punching bags for the main character they actually feel important
@10:50 The FIRST night my sister was gone from the house and officially shipped to boot camp, I came out of my room in the dead of night, having already cried for 20 minutes straight. As I'm going to get some water, I pass by my parents room and for some reason my dad had a feeling to go out and check something at 11pm... He opened the door RIGHT as I was walking passed... I ran into his arms in instinct and kept crying more. Was a tough transition not having her there
This sequel show gives off major El Tigre meets the Ghost & Molly McGee vibes. It would be cool if the former got a sequel series with Manny & Frida as adults with three kids (one good, one evil, one in the middle).
Do you think Dale's probably suffering from childhood trauma by Doug and Vicky when he was a kid? By the way Dale acts, it reminds me of Vicky for how she treats kids and pretends to be a nice caring babysitter in front of the adults. And for Dev, he seriously reminds me of Remy Buxaplenty in a way.
I truly enjoyed this new continuation of the Fairy Oddparents series. Great main Godkid for this new series and wonderful reintroduction to the FOP series as a whole.
In spite of all odds, somehow it seems to have worked. I'm not one of those people who treat "reboot" as a dirty word, but this IP in particular being continued felt... entirely unnecessary and more like to fail than anything. Yet again, it goes to show that it comes down to specifics and execution.
Do note, however, that Peri is not demanding a season two because he doesn’t want to the show to be cut short (that’s our reasoning). He was demanding it so that the show doesn’t have to end on a fart. Thus, he understands that toilet humor is the lowest form of comedy known to man. And this is the guy who once saved the universe by farting; that is the definition of growing up right there 😂
It’s the best thing to come out of Fairly OddParents in years, so on that alone, I’d say it was a good idea. But if you want the full breakdown, get ready. It’s a cute and charming show that stands on its own while paying homage to the original. That said, it feels more like a standard kids’ show than the OG did, which had a bit more of an edge to it due to the more cynical nature of the humor. Timmy to me was also a much more interesting and relatable protagonist because of his flaws. His wishes were more creative and the ensuing chaos more absurd and entertaining. Hazel, by comparison, is more levelheaded and responsible, making her wishes feel kind of lackluster. Some of this might be due to budget constraints, but another part seems like the showrunners intentionally moving away from the OG’s absurd, slapstick style. For a show about a kid with nearly unlimited magical power, they grounded it a bit too much. The best part of the show is the dynamic between Dev Dimmadome and Peri. Their chemistry feels like classic Fairly OddParents and could’ve carried the series. Honestly, they should’ve been the main stars, with Cosmo and Wanda as recurring characters. Hazel could’ve just been Dev’s classmate without her own fairies. Speaking of Cosmo and Wanda, I appreciate them being equally goofy again. The “dumb husband, smart wife” dynamic from the later seasons wasn’t bad, but I get why people got tired of it. In this show, though, they took it too far and made Cosmo and Wanda straight-up incompetent. Hazel isn’t reckless like Timmy, so the chaos from her wishes feels forced, and this makes Cosmo and Wanda come off like bad fairies who can’t handle even basic tasks. Hazel’s wishes could have led to more natural consequences, but instead, we get random, goofy results like “pasta puberty.” Imagine if she wished to be friends with her teachers-she’d end up feeling isolated because she’s too young to relate to them. Or if she wished to be a teenager and had to deal with teenage responsibilities while missing out on her childhood. That would’ve been more interesting than what we got. I also wasn’t a fan of the finale and the status quo change. Letting multiple characters know about the fairies cheapens the magical world and Hazel’s relationship with Cosmo and Wanda. Turning it into more of an ensemble show would water down her character development, which reminds me of the OG series bloating the cast near the end. It feels like the writers struggled to come up with good wish ideas for Hazel. Timmy’s impulsiveness and laziness were perfect for a kid with unlimited power, but Hazel is too sensible to create the same kind of chaos. Her friends knowing about the fairies is most likely a way to give the writers more ideas for episodes and wishes. Plus, Hazel didn’t seem like she needed fairies in the first place. Her relationship with Cosmo and Wanda felt more like a bonus than a necessity. Adding her friends into the mix undermines the whole idea that fairies are supposed to help kids who truly need them. TL;DR: A New Wish is charming but falls short of the original. Hazel’s responsible nature makes her less interesting as a protagonist, Cosmo and Wanda’s incompetence feels overdone, and the wish outcomes lack creativity. The finale throws in too many characters in on the secret, making the magic less special. Dev and Peri shine as the best part of the show, but overall, it feels like the writers struggled to recreate the depth and humor of the OG series.
It's genuinely impressive how this show manages to cast off so much of the seasonal rot that the original accumulated over the years all the while still being so insanely loyal to its predecessor and all the lore and characters from the early days of FOP.
After watching the reivival into online months ago, I was special on how they would treat the series making a comeback 20 years later. It all sounds like it's all done by most of the same creative team which sounds all great to know from the in-depth synopsis ya bring Jordan. I have planned on giving this revival a try and I still plan onto eventually. Looks like a real fun ride as much as the og series.
I really enjoyed this show. Honestly, I’d go as far to say that I like it more than the Og FOP. It’s very cute and hilarious and the characters aren’t obnoxious.
I stopped caring about Reboots all the same after what they did to Power Puff Girls & Ben 10 now, they are all just the same to me... TTG was different though sorta so I won't mention that here, that was more like a reimagining than a reboot to me honestly as far as the OG series goes.
I don't mean to be a blind hater, but everything I have seen of TTG was bad. Like, even if it weren't related to Teen Titans it's bad. As for reboots in general, I'm sort of the same. But if I hear good things about it, like with A New Wish, I'd be interested and give it a try.
@@daddydwavedI don't think he said anything wrong. Jordan posed the question of whether we thought the reboot was a good idea and he just stated he doesn't really like reboots.
Ironically calling this FOP show a reboot is a mistake, it's a sequel series, set up 20 years after the original one ended, and with full continuity and returning characters.
@@moonhoneymami he can have a opinion, but he literally just said stop caring about those reboots, it just sounds like he’s butt hurt of Jordan for not disliking something he does dislikes
well they do still have sparky that was reveled in an ep so the dog does still exist sparky and poof i liked idc if people didn't like sparky i thought he was fun and funny. and i love the idea of a fairy dog
I watched some of the show with my younger cousin (I’m in my 30s and he’s 16!) and we both really love what we watched despite laughing at different parts and liking different characters Honestly that was so refreshing, I’m happy there’s a show that adults and teens/kids can actually enjoy together even if for different aspects, they did a great job ❤
Honestly it was WAY better than the previous attempts to continue/reboot it. PLUS considering what the Galax Institute focuses on... They could use it to continue DANNY PHANTOM too. Since the Galax Institute focuses on hunting/capturing/destroying the Magical/Alien/Ghostly. So it would be a danger for Fairy World, Anti Fairy World, Pixie World, and of course... The Ghost Zone. Which I would imagine would have been a HUGE thing, they would probably create something that FORCES Magical Buildup on Fairies, and the equivalent to the other magical beings. While for the ghost zone... They would be smarter than the Guys in White, and know that the dimensions are linked, but using magic gathered from the Magical beings... They can fully destroy it WITHOUT affecting the human world. Possibly bring back another Fairly Odd Parents character, Ms. Doombringer as one of their board members, or leading researchers, etc. Just IMAGINE the epic special that could lead up to... Ooo maybe even get help from other dimensions as a result of Galax trying to destroy things, i.e the walls to them start to break down. If they aren't stopped... ALL dimensions would be destroyed except for the Dimmsdale/Dimmadelphia one. *YUP Jimmy Neutron aged up!* Bye Fairy World, Pixie World, Anti Fairy World, Ghost Zone. Even Dairy World.
I think it’s a good idea, isn’t rebooting like creating the whole with the same character all over again? I think it’s a continuation but Hazel is just a amazing character I’m glad they did this
This might be a hot take but I think Hazel is more interesting than Timmy cause her situation before she met Cosmo and Wanda is more relatable and sympathetic. That isn't to say Timmy is a bad character but I think you can connect with Hazel more on a personal level.
I watch all the og fairy odd parents since I was child I feel this show is disrespect towards the original Because if they wanted to made the real reboot it should had Timmy's kids as we saw in channel chasers , they kill the lore with this one in my opinion. Also treat Timmy very dirty by disrespect him
Yes I’ve heard many good things about the revival. And that’s how I want more of these to go. Actually add something new and fresh to the table or try different narrative formats and new characters!
WOW, this is the animation that happens when 'Jimmy Neutron' gets combined with 'Angela Anaconda'👍Just how Penny Proud IS Hazel, because I always thought it would've been cool if SHE got Cosmo and Wanda even over Jimmy, and HE actually EARNED them😁 I love the return of Poof, but NO mention of the famous crossover ANYWHERE😉 Now to find out if Chester is a security guard!
@@stormshadowproductions1660 tbf though Butch himself stated in one of youtube channel that he did wanted to end off the original series on a high note. But then nick forced him into creating chloe which turned most of us og fans away. So that fault is the upper ups doing quite sadly not Butch's.
@@stormshadowproductions1660 And also, you don't know that they'll do the same for this show, cuz for one, it's on a streaming service, and until it's a big hit, it won't get ran to the ground.
I was not expecting such optimistic news about Fairly Odd Parents after the last reviews I saw for it, but this actually looks really good! I'd be excited to watch this new series!
