Was this Mahindra tractor a bad choice? - Year 2 review - what's gone wrong - would I buy it again?

The Mahindra Max 26 XLT is now 2 years old and let's reflect on what has gone wrong in the last year. The Mitsubishi tractor has been a great unit for me and aside from a couple small hydraulic leaks 2021 was an uneventful year for the tractor (which is a good thing).

We have 1526 HST we bought in 2016, it came with a Mitsubishi engine , USA bucket , USA back hoe, and we got their 66” snow blower as well ( made in Canada) that runs off the mid PTO. We snow blow 5 months of the year on a steep 1/4 mile driveway and the blower is a beast and can do 2’ ,,,Still running on the same battery, I have one very slow oil drip I need to locate on the engine but other than that it sips diesel and handles everything even pushing boulders . The little 3 cylinder does all it can blowing deep snow up hill but it gets her done, with chains it’s super safe with the AWD. 👍 we’ve been happy with it and my biggest complaint is checking the oil and having to take the side panel off. 🤷‍♀️

I have the Mahindra Max 26 xl shuttle that I purchased new in 2016. It is Mitsubishi made. I use it every day--winter and summer. Change the engine oil and fuel filter every year. It has 684 hours on it now. I keep it inside when not in use. I have a hilly property and find the wide stanch of the rear industrial tires very stable....never offers to tip over like my Kubota B series tractor does--geting wheel spacers for the Kubota. It is a very safe tractor to use. In the winter I feed 3x3 round bales of hay to my herd of sheep lifting the bales over the fence and dropping them in the sheeplot. I clean the snow out of my long 600 ft. driveway with it.

I have Mahindra Max 26 XLT HST, have had it now for 26 months have put 430 hours on it, the screw part holding the block to the frame was a big problem solved that with teflon tape, the bog problems is the joystick with the little balla that hold it, its cheap plastic, breaks very easily. My BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH MAHINDRA, TRY GETTING PIECES, ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE, AND WHEN THEY WILL TELL YOU THE PRICE, YOU WILL BE SHOCKED, TRACTOR IS FANTASTIC, BUT I WOULD NEVER BUY IT AGAIN, ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET PARTS.

Good video good information thanks. I bought a 1526 in 2017 had 875 hrs traded it in 2020 my cousin talked me into gettin a 2515 Branson it would lift more heavier just all around better tractor well never could get enough ballast on back to test the lifting capacity. So traded the Branson for a 1626 Mahindra now I can do what I need to do. Personally don't believe you can beat them. Enjoy watchin tractor videos thanks for sharing

After reading bunch of coments hete and many other video posts, related to Mahindra, Kubota, JD, Kioti. I drcided to go with Kubota, holds value and has been around for long time. I had a BX1500, 800 hours, no issues, besides regular maintenance, replacing hoses, due to keeping it outside. Just sold, need a 25hp machine with FEL, BH and BM. Ooking at a used 2018 BX 2680. Lifting is not that great, but quality means a lot to me. Love the JD color, but hate the hidrylic hoses set up and the controls all over

I think some times its not the brand as much as its the dealer. To me a dealer prep is key. They should go over every inch of a tractor and make sure all bolts, nuts, connections are tight and torque to spec. Alot of times these units come as a unit and they just put the wheel and tires on, maybe fluids and crank it up.

I own a Mahindra Max HST 26L with a full heated cab. Had it for at least 9 years and have had only 1 problem since new and the dealership, tested the machine and told me it was normal, so I have accepted it, but not happy. The problem is a super slow reverse and in High Gear it wont even roll over a stone or a slight incline. Have to use it in Low Gear and that makes it even slower. Owned a Kubota for 10 years before the Mahindra, and that was super fast but not half as strong as the Mahindra. ??? Thank You

With your O ring problem was it dried out? Could be that you need to run the unit just to circulate the hydraulic fluid to keep the rings lubed. Great video.

I worked as a mechanic at the assembly facility…I wouldn’t buy one, I never ever recommended their product to anyone that asked. Can’t find parts, bolts are not properly torqued during assembly, no guidelines nor procedures for the assemblers to go by, I’ve personally witnessed, on multiple occasions, units come into the facility, completely waterlogged, where the hydraulic fluid in the trans case leaked out over time sitting at a dealer, and it was sent to us for repair. I “repaired” a bunch of units where all I was told to do by the owner of the facility was to drain the water from the case, fill it with oil and send it out to be sold to some poor sap. What mahindra does is buy everything from the cheapest supplier. Outside of KMW and Bradco making specific parts for these machines, they used to be made by TYM and now are exclusively made by mahindra of India. What happened, was mahindra let TYM Make their machines and they sort of “pimped” the TYM models out with “ASSEMBLED INTHE USA” stickers and that typical value engineering crap, preying on the consumer who doesn’t know any better. Sure, for the amount of coin you spend and the amount of tractor and attachments you can get might be right up someone’s alley, but trust me when I say, outside of light and I mean very light homeowner use, these piles of crap DO NOT LAST. MTAC (mahindra tractor assembly center) would have (don’t know if they still do) an auction every year selling off the crap they couldn’t sell at dealers. I’m taking brand new max20 tractors with good little 3 banger yanmar engines in them…junk after sitting for a year. Faded plastics, cracked rubber fuel lines, improperly installed cabs, lights that don’t work, electric heaters that were improperly hooked up from assembly…I could write you a book on how many hundreds of reasons not to waste your money. I told anyone that ever asked about those red hunks of crap, to save your money a little longer and buy a JD, kubota, LS or Massey Ferguson, you’ll thank me in 5 years when your machine is still working as it should. Mahindra is a value brand that uses value engineering and value parts. They use pot metal for their frames, they use the cheapest fasteners they can get to hold those cheap frames together. The plastic used becomes brittle after 6 months, they used non-repairable hydraulic cylinders, in fact to increase bucket capacity, all they did was increase the angle of the sides of the bucket to widen it, forgetting to factor in the extra weight the increased capacity has. I must have done well over 1,000 PTO removal, repair and reinstalls on every model they have, all due to mahindra just slapping the PTO in without properly measuring backlash. Anyone that knows, knows that you use PTFE pipe dope on hydraulic fittings, not tape. It even says so in the mahindra manual…I never, ever used liquid Teflon as anyone should, because the owner simply wouldn’t pay the extra money for it. Teflon tape on hydraulic fittings = leaks for the life of the machine until you do it properly. I can’t make this shit up. KMW sends a booklet of info for assembly and it says in plain bold script black and white English “PTFE TAPE IS NOT TO BE USED ON HYDRAULIC FITTINGS. I’d rather light $20,000 on fire than spend it on a mahindra, but I cannot lie, their junk made me quite a bit of money when I worked for them. If I was you, I would get a torque wrench and torque your loader arm bolts on that max 25/26 down to 100lb/ft. I bet my life that you’ll shit yourself when you notice they are either under or over torqued. Take a look at any of your hydraulic fittings. If they have tape, I’d drain the cases and re-seal every fitting and connection the correct way, with liquid pipe thread. Mahindra preys on the home gamer…the 28-45 year old first time homeowner, newly married, parents of one with the golden retriever. Dad has been eyeing up a nice tractor, wife finally approves. Little does dad know his three year horror story of mahindra owner ship turns out to be 3 months of use followed by 33 months of parts acquisition and transport to and from the dealer. I watched this happen Hundreds of times. My .02$

Steval, You should see my hilly 1/4 mile driveway in the winter 😂 My 2016 1525 Mitsubishi gets used and abused but maintained. Ive had mine for four years and have less than 300 hours and Ive had multiple issues with this tractor. Mahindra is terrible about honoring their warranty so I do not recommend anyone buying from Mahindra. The steel line at the hydraulic pump starting leaking, no help from Mahindra, had to fix it myself. The hydraulic has become quite weak and will not lift as much as it did. Shifter locks up occasionally. Ive had to replace the glow plugs twice. I like the engine but would never buy from Mahindra again.
@k6outdoors
@k6outdoors 10 месяцев назад
Sorry for your bad luck. Unfortunately, it sounds like your dealer is not stepping up to the plate. It is safe to assume your issue would not be under warranty since the tractor is only covered bumper to bumper for the first 2 years. The remaining warranty is on the powertrain. In the past, I have had no issues with any warranty work and by dealer was able to process stuff in an orderly fashion. Items like the glow plugs are not a Mahindra issue, they use a Bosch injection system for the Mitsubishi built tractor. I have over 200 hours on mine and its running like a champ.
