Chelsea have struggled to break down a low block against 11 men, Spurs had 9. It's also worth remembering that Spurs CB duo was Eric Dier, who was playing his first minutes of the season, and Hojbjerg, a midfielder. There is no way that Spurs were holding out for 30 minutes with 9 men and that defence by allowing wave after wave of attack. Liverpool couldn't hold out with 9 when they had their best defenders on the pitch including VVD.

No, because the score was 1-1 when they went 2 men down. Anges approach consisted on taking risks in defence in order to still be able to attack and maybe win the game. If Spurs had played a low block (which they haven't done all season) would mean a lot less chances to score. It almost worked too, remember Dier's disallowed goal.
@just_kez
@just_kez 8 месяцев назад
Chelsea would've had to play through a low block, something that they haven't been able to do in a very long time, instead they finally figured out how to play against a high line and won the game. There's a reason that so many teams, with better coaches play a low block and play on the counter, that's cos it usually works. Ange made the wrong decision, the only reason it's being praised is cos it was something new. No disrespect to Ange, I really like him, but he made the wrong decision

@@just_kezHahaha, "usually works". Riiiiiight. Point out the matches to me where a team goes down to 9 men, sit in a low block for 30 minutes and it goes well for them. Also, we'd have to factor in that the team with 9 have lost their 2 starting CBs, so they're relying on a midfielder to play that position against wave after wave of attack. Again, where are the examples backing up the idea that would "usually work"with 9 men? 🤣 I don't want to take up too much of your time, so perhaps you could provide just a few examples? 😂
@just_kez
@just_kez 8 месяцев назад
I'll be honest, off the top of my head I'd struggle to find examples. However, what I could do is find numerous examples of Chelsea struggling against a low block and losing to counter attacking teams. Absolutely stupid. Chelsea missed many goals, caught offside a couple of times for a centimeter and still got to score 3 of the easiest goals of the season.And that's only because it was Chelsea and they could not pass a simple through ball or finish the chances.If it were City,Arsenal or Liverpool against the same tactics,they would score a two-digit number easily. But in my stupid opinion,i believe that if Spurs had put 9 men in their box,Chelsea wouldn't have scored even if the match lasted two weeks, and spurs would fight for 1 point,instead of conceding 3 goals.Keep in mind that they were playing with their substitute center backs at the time (Dier,Skipp and Hojbjerg) ,which non of them is famous for his speed.
