OMG, I really did i!. Thanks Matt your video was great. I saved $116 by doing it myself. Repair guy would have gladly come over for $49.95 service all plus $80 for repair. for a total of $130. I told him on the phone that I wanted to try it myself first. I bet he said "dang" under his breath, "those DIYers, I just can't fool 'em". I just had to buy an extension for my socket and the part from a local store for my agit dogs (didn't need kit) and I was good to go. My husband has been calling me the "Maytag Repairman" (even though it was a Whirlpool). THANKS AGAIN MATT!
Excellent! Thank you. You turned what would have been days of unnecessary work, expensive spend and frustration into a simple and enjoyable task. I gladly buy you the parts this time and will come back next time one of my appliances breaks down. Congratulations for a work very well done.
You folks are the greatest, to see the repair completed along with the explaination is just too good. Or SIMPLY BRILLIANT as the Brits would say. Please carry on. B.J. Ackley
The video was great. Very informative and easy to follow. We discovered the "dogs" were broken and had the problem fixed in no time. Thanks so much for posting this!
Thank you for a thorough and detailed video. Unknowingly, I removed the base tabs per the installation instructions for the Thrust Washer Kit 285587 that was in the Agitator Repair Kit for 285811. grrrrr!! When I contacted Whirlpool they put the incorrect instructions in the 285811 kit, they would not assist and told me to look on RU-vid for how to reinstall the auger to the agitator. Since you mentioned this detail to install the agitator and auger separately, you have save me considerable hours of frustration thinking I did something wrong. Thanks for your video!!!
On Thursday Sept 12th I ordered the parts, on Friday Oct 13 the parts arrived at my home and just now we installed the pieces!!! OMG you and your company are GREAT seriously the BEST!!! thank you so much!!!
Three observations: First, these videos are outstanding. You can save a lot of money by watching and following along as Matt describes each step. Second, I'm introducing these videos as part of a new drinking game. It's simple: Every time Matt says "go ahead," everybody takes a drink. ;) Third, I'm naming the new band "Agitator Dogs."
Thanks for this great video, can the agitator make the machine shake alot like its off balance? When its spinning, the machine whats to walk around and if I hold the agitator while its spinning its all good
Most times if the washer wont spin it is the lid switch, it acts like a safety switch that stops the washer from spinning if the lid is open. If it is failing or damaged it may be working intermittently.
Check the pump and drain lines for any obstructions that would stop the machine from draining. You could also have a bad clutch/brakes that could cause the drum not to spin up to full speed, which would make the clothes come out wet. You can go to our forum and do a search for " Replacing direct drive washer brake shoes" this will give you the thread that gives all the info about the brakes and clutch.
Marco Myre, I cannot respond as you have the reply feature off. I would start with checking to be sure all the feet are level. Then check the springs and the support structure. The agitator should not really cause an off balance issue but make sure you check it for damage or wear.
Most washers are off level because their feet are not adjusted to the floor. On this type of washer the rear legs are self adjusting and the fronts need to be adjusted with a wrench. To adjust the rear feet you have to tilt the washer forward so the rear feet are off the ground this lets the rear feet drop down, then lower the washer, they lock in place as they touch the floor. Make sure the rubber pads on the feet are ok. If the legs check out it could be a more serious suspension issue.
Thank you so much for this informative video. You made it look so easy. I purchased the repair kit from your website and installed the parts in less than 15 mins. I'll take the cost of the parts over an expensive repairman any day. Do me a favor though, don't tell my wife that it was this easy.

Hi, My Kenmore top loader washer works fine but at the end of spinning cycle it makes a radling, banging sound this started after I fixed a waterleak in the plastic tub, I did replace one of the springs because of rust. Any suggestions? Thanks Bart
Replaced the dogs with a repair kit and I'm still not getting any agitation. The top auger engages the bottom agitator now that the dogs are replaced, but the latter has worn splines. Would that keep it from functioning? I already ordered a new bottom agitator, but is there something else I'm missing? The machine makes all the right noises like it's working, but if I crack the lid and peak in, nothing is happening.
I love DIY repair videos, and these are very good. My Whirlpool (Kenmore 110.20912991) actually has a significant difference in disassembling, as there is a plastic retainer that must be removed (using a 1/2" socket drive) before gaining access to the 7/16" bolt. Also, I'm wondering why not just replace the agitator dogs (for about $3), versus the entire agitator cam repair kit (about $17-$25, depending on your model)?
I hope you are still reading the comments. My two agitator parts are already separated so how do I put them back together so the top is bolted to the bottom? I must be missing something that connects the two because I can take out the bolt out without going down the top part of the agitator. I have the items you show excluding the dust cover. Do I need to order that? I just can't figure out why my two agitator sections are already apart. The previous owner must of and that's why it felt like it was flopping around and not snug. If you read this I would greatly appreciate your help! Thanks!
I'm pretty sure I'll be able to fix my agitator now...thanks! Question: is white grease the same as white lithium grease? I (google) searched for white grease and all I'm seeing is white lithium grease.
Thank you - I see that you do also have a video for just replacing the agitator dogs, in case the other agitator components are still good. Guess I need to figure out how to search better. Good on ya!
I bought the repair kit and replaced the dawgs and it seams to work properly. When I wash a load the dawgs are still slipping. The teeth on the upper adgitator are not broke or worn out as far as I can tell. I used vasoline instead of adgitator grease. Any suggestions ?
I have an older g.e. washer that leaks terribly underneath. I have reached under it, and found that the "boot" that seals the bottom of the tub is not in place. Looking back over the years, I seem to remember fixing this problem on another washer, but I cant even get the agitator off of this one. I can see that it is on a spline shaft, because the tip of the agitator is broken off which would indicate to me that it comes straight up. I tried straps, and a 7 foot 2x4 lever, but it won't budge.
Those boot seals have been discontinued by G.E. but are available aftermarket, here is the part number to enter on our site: AP5183580. As far as getting the agitator off that's another story, they used to make a water bladder that you could put under it to get it off but I don't think you will find one, as these machines haven't been made for about 20 years. I would say let some penetrating oil sink in and try the straps again.
i have a maytag hav2360aww model how can i move the body to check if the motor is burnt my washing machine stop from working on the last cicle and smell like rubber burning . need some help i don't have a clue if is the motor or the belt any help i will appreciate. thanks
My washer wont agitate but will spin. I have a maytag centennial commercial technology and I have checked the dogs which are fine, I have checked the motor cuplets and the clutch assembly is just fine I don't know what the problem is. Is there anything you can tell me to check next. Just the machine wont agitate and everything else is fine. I don't spin as fast but it will spin.
This video is for a Whirlpool style washer. The GE agitators are sold all as one piece. You can go to our web site and enter your model number to see the parts breakdown.
I have the same problem. My dust cap doesn't have a handle to grab and lift. i am sure that if I could get it off , my problem would be solved. I need help! I have a GE model wwse5240g1ww
Ryan Marquis They can get stuck together pretty good. As long as it is the type in the video you should be able to pull it apart. There are ones do not come apart so double check!
+Jack Wagner You can try putting some warm water in there to try and get the gunk to let go. Also try a small screwdriver in between the cap and the side of the upper agitator, to try and break it free.
IF I HAVE A WASHING MACHINE OFF BALANCE WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX IT AND STOP THE THE LOUD NOISE! I WANT TO MAKE MY WASHER QUITE AGAIN!!!! PLEASE ADVISE ME ON WHAT SHOULD I DO!!! PLEASE OR WHERE I COULD GO TO HAVE SOMEONE FIX IT!!
I can wash a load a clothes it sometimes it will wash, drain and spin with no problem, Then sometimes I'll wash a load it will wash, drain then it won't spin. What could be causing it? Thanks..
sugar baby This repair is for the upper agitator. If yours fell off it could just be the bolt came loose. If not check the lower half for any wear or damage especially the splines where it connects to the transmission shaft.
babe ruth There are a few designs they have used over the years. You can go to our site and enter your model number to view the parts breakdown. You can also post the problem along with the appliance model number on our repair forum and the techs can help you troubleshoot the problem.

Ahmad Shanniek You should only have to grease the thrust washer. If you greased the whole thing there is a chance you could get grease on your clothes. A lot of grease may also interfere with the dogs swinging in and out.
+Davida Watkins If you need repair help it is best to post the problem along with the appliance model number on our repair forum and the techs can help you troubleshoot the problem. forum.appliancepartspros.com/
AppliancePartsPros I just found out mine is a 1991 model and doesn't have a collar or ring.. The dogs are just sitting in the gear. Working fine so thank you very, very much.

We are limited on what when can do here, we have a limited amount of response space. If you need more in depth help you should register with the repair forum. Here is a picture if a transmission used in those styles of washers, as you listed 3 different model numbers in your 2 questions I do not know if it is the correct one for yours. It looks like it comes as the whole support assembly, it is mounted with a lot of bolts from the bottom. www.appliancepartspros.com/ge-supports-assy-wh16x10186-ap5788202.html www.appliancepartspros.com/motor-drive-assembly-parts-for-ge-gtup270em0ww.html
