@Washer Dryer Money.. I cannot thank you enough for posting this video. You are bar none, the BEST RU-vidr I have ever listened to, in explaining the entire process, and showing the process, so that the average guy can get the job done right, the first time, without breaking something or messing it up. I was able to fix my girl friends Admiral washing machine (that she bought used) that had been banging around, with every single spin cycle since we got it to her house and set it up. After watching many videos, that led me down the wrong road, yours hit it out of the park. I found the pads that needed to be replaced. I ended up replacing the three suspension springs as well, since there was a little too much wobble (I thought) in the tub when pushing it from side to side. Those springs took some doing, but I got them replaced, at the some time that I had the machine apart for the tabs, which were badly worn. I just did a huge load of wash, but had to go outside for a while, and when I came back in the machine had not moved one iota. So I filled it again with water just to rinse the big load again. Watched it, and NO death wobble at all. Thank you VERY MUCH for this video.

Thank you so much! Another video suggested to disassemble the whole tub to replace those, the way you do it is MUCH simpler! I did it all alone by inserting a stick in the gap to keep it open while I'm changing the pad. Also to push the pad into place, I let the tip of my 3 feet crow bar sit on it and just used my weight on the bar to force it in, worked well! I had previously changed the 3 springs, the leveling spring behind the washer and the long one behind the motor, without much results. Changing the wear pads made a huge difference, I would never have thought that such a small visible wear was responsible for such bad vibrations.
@WasherDryerMoney

Glad it helped. I have changed mine twice. They last several years but they wear out over time. There's also three more pads that are deeper in that machine That will wear out after you replace those pads a few times.

@@WasherDryerMoneyWhere are the other three? I am not familiar with them. I have changed the ones you show. In ga t I have one now that need them. It sound smoothly with no clothes in it but really shakes badly with clothes in it. The tub does not seem to really shake much at all when pushed down and released. I had not thought of the scrub pads.

Great instructional video. I was very hesitant to try and fix my washing machine since I have never attempted such endeavour before. It is way over my comfort level. I followed the instructions and ordered the parts, than step by step following the video and once done, held my breath and started up the washing machine. It worked, no wobble and no noise. It’s hard to believe that such little strip of plastic could make that kind of annoyance go away. Thanks

Dude, thank you! I took the washer apart to clean it and thought I could calm the vibrations by putting on some feet (apparently the former homeowner didn't care to do it). Problem was it started shaking worse! I changed the springs and it came with these pads but I didn't think they'd make a big difference so I just changed the springs. Third time in the machine now and it's much better! It still vibrates a good bit but it doesn't walk towards me anymore so I count that as a win!

Great video. This is what RU-vid should be used for. So many videos are just junk, showing somebody who doesn't know what they are doing and get lucky fixing something. Side story. We needed our washer and couldn't wait for stuff from ebay. I went to 4 appliance stores. Two did not have part in stock, but could order. I told them to save the trouble, "I can order it on my own". One said he's never heard of that part and didn't want to take the time to even check on it for me. The final one said in 30 years of appliance repair, he's never replaced that part. Then he tried to sell me a new washer to replace my 13 year old one. Then I pressed him, "listen, all I want is the part, do you have it or not?" He sold me the part, but said I was wasting my money. I replaced all 3 and the washer is steady as a rock. Thanks again.

Lol. That’s the problem with appliance repair guys they all think they’re experts. I’ve replaced so many of these. Track drive washers only shake for a handful of reasons and most of them end up being those plastic pieces or there’s actually one more sad that’s deeper in the machine but I will say I’ve only had to replace those that are super deep in the machine once. And it was on my personal machine that I had already replaced the easier to get to three plastic pieces.

I have taken a recent interest in old appliances, namely washers and dryers. I have been watching as many RU-vid videos as I can. I am not sure that i want to get into the game as far as you have but i haven't ruled it out yet. I have an older Almond Whirlpool set that my wife and I inherited from her parents. The washer went out on me 2 years ago and i just moved our washer into it's place. Last month, that washer went out on me and so i scrambled to find an inexpensive used washer. The older fella I purchased the washer from kinda duped me by rigging up the timer switch with a metal shim. Once we washed a comforter, it fell back and wasn't working. Long story short, the plastic tabs where it is screwed into the back of the panel had broken and he shimmed it with a long piece of metal. I have figured out a way to make it work. *knocks on wood* Well now I have my Whirlpool completely apart and I am in the process of doing a complete cleaning and refurbishing of the machine. My question is, is it worth it to be so thorough when people aren't going to see the insides anyways? I am very detail oriented, so when I see these used machines at flea markets etc., they are usually dirty and I always think to myself that they would probably get the price they are asking if they would take a little time to clean up the appliance. Anyways, I am waiting for a return call from a fella that has been recommended to me by a local parts shop. I would like to find someone to kind of shadow for a little while. I catch on fast. I am the type that learns quicker by having someone helpful to work with me. Any advice you have would be appreciated!
@WasherDryerMoney
@WasherDryerMoney 3 года назад
The Shane you're probably talk about is a direct-drive washer and they are a dream to work on. The new type of washer are what repair guys call pause/play because the gray button with a pause play symbol on it. These machines are horrible but are the most common machines out right now and as a refurbished sure you have got to learn how to fix them. As far as dryer go learn how to fix dryers with the filters that come out the top of the machine. These are extremely common and easy to work on. I use Rust-Oleum Appliance spray paint it's cheap and it looks amazing. One can can use my paint several machines. when it comes to making the most money on refurbished appliances there are three things you can do to add value. 1. Make them look great "clean and touch up paint" 2. Offer a free 30-day warranty. People will pay extra to know they are getting a good working machine. 3. Offer delivery. It's shocking how many people have no way of picking up a washer or dryer. They're either too old or do not have access to a truck. I charge $45 for delivery or free delivery if they have a broken washer or dryer to trade in.

This was a very well done video. I know it will be more challenging, but could this repair be done from the bottom? I am asking because last year I had to replace the springs and took the cabinet apart. In 20 minutes I was done..... then it took me two weeks to get the cabinet back together. It was by far the most difficult part of a DIY repair I have ever done and I have been doing them for 50 years. You could have added so much more information such as: "Folks- this is where the springs should be located" (one of mine broke) "While you have the cabinet opened, give the machine a good once over and check for any other damaged parts. The places to zero in are....." "While you have the cabinet opened, give the machine a good wipe down and cleaning" Not to be forgotten- give credit to the camera person or you would not have a video.
@WasherDryerMoney
@WasherDryerMoney 3 года назад
Sadly I do think you have to take the cabinet off to get to these parts. You may be able to do it but it will definitely be difficult. One thing to check while you have the cabinet also is the pressure hose that goes near the bottom of the washer. I always like to put a zip tie on it because if it comes off it will overflow the washer. I’m going to make a video soon on making the ultimate unbreakable washer. This will include that fix and how to beef up the lid switch so it never breaks. There’s also a heavy duty version of the clutch for this machine.

Well, I did take the cabinet apart and discovered that my pads were in perfect condition. Unfortunately, I did have a broken spring. It seems that the bones of my 26-year-old washer are still in good condition!!

I’ve replaced the suspension rods. Twice. Worked ok for a while. I tried the liquid nails fix. Worked ok for a while longer. Then I came up with a working solution. Pool noodles! Use the smaller diameter ones. Secure one in the middle of each side of the washer from the top down. They will fit a little snug if you have the right size. Duct tape worked well. Then put the lid back on and give it a shot. Initially an imbalanced load may vibrate a few times, but the noodles buffer the shock and the load will stabilize and spin just fine. Works with towels, sheets, clothes no blankets. Fully loaded loads. Problem solved for the cost of 4 pool needles, duct tape and about 30 minutes of your time. 😎
@WasherDryerMoney
@WasherDryerMoney 2 года назад
Interesting. One thing to check if your washer starts vibrating after you have replace the suspension rods is if the drum looks off centered while it slowly turns. There is a plastic piece that is very difficult to replace that’s underneath the inner drum. This will cause the suspension rods to quickly go bad. Cool idea with the pool noodles.

I know I could handle the pad switch out shown in the video, but I'm not sure that's what I'll find inside. The Appliance Pt Pro link did have a model similar to mine, but couldn't tell from the schematics and no wear pads were listed under parts for that model. Still, I did learn a lot from your video.

Sounds like a radical cam you might find on a nitro methane top fuel dragster too me. I'm going to try and do the same thing to mine and see what she can do. Maybe start with some oversized springs and bigger shocks some 220volts. You know hop her up a bit pressurize the water in , bigger faster drain hose

I see at 9:42 of your video the spring bracket appears to be pretty close to worn thru.

Question the first pad you installed was made in China , was the cheap quality and I saw you had used sand paper. What about the second one and third one where those made from? Looks really nice snap in nicely. Please let us know where to get the first quality pads.

Thank you for this video. I'll get a kit on Amazon and see if it fixes my issue. I just hope I don't need to dissasemble the whole thing to get to those 3 other suspension pads. My gearcase is also leaking oil and on top of that the machine has sprung a small water leak I suspect might be that fill tube or perhaps the main seal. Aaah the joys of being poor and handy!
@WasherDryerMoney
@WasherDryerMoney Год назад
The most common water leak in these type of machines is the water pump. Usually pretty easy job.

@@WasherDryerMoney Thanks I'll look it up, but it seamed really dry. I pressure tested the system for leaks from the drain hose and its not leaking. (car meachanic here) I'll keep investigating, but I wonder if the fact of it being unbalanced/pads worn or broken makes water splash over the tub or something. I'll keep you posted if you want!

@@okkrom if it’s not leaking from the water pump, it could be the main seal for the drum. If the machine shakes too much, it can make the seal fail because it puts added pressure on the seal itself around the shaft runs through the center into the agitator. Take the metal case from around the drum and see where the water is coming from. Should be pretty easy to tell if it’s running around the motor and transmission it will be the main seal.

@@WasherDryerMoney Well, Taking it apart was a though fight! Since I didnt have the special wrench, I used a small vice to clamp the retainer nut and got it off with blows from a hammer. Fought with the porcelain tub, was almost welded to the shaft. Took the whole thing apart and found a lot of rust on the main shaft and the brake shaft is stuck inside the main shaft. Upper seal is visibly damaged. I think inner bearings are gone too. I think I won't pursue the adventure. Instead I'll embark on a new one! = Just found a MVWC200BW Maytag Centennial for free, owner says spin cycle wont engage. I figure it should be a pretty easy fix, hoping for the shift actuator, maybe lid switch. I figure those maytags have a troubleshooting mode and its a problem I can troubleshoot for free with a multimeter before I buy any parts. Thanks for your help!

Great video!! Mine is shaking just like yours was. Checked skate plate and it appears to be aligned. Did a visual check on all 3 springs plus larger balance spring in back and they're all connected. This is about the last possibility to blame the shaking on! Do you agree? Tomorrow I'll pick pads at parts store. Sure hope they solve the problem

Yeah it would be my go-to move if a direct drive washer is shaking. You can get these pads on Amazon super cheap don't let a part store overcharge you if they're expensive.

Very helpful video, almost the same washer as my Roper. I got mine back together now it leaks so l think l didn't get the fill housing back in the right place. the little ears are partially broken off where they go thru the back sheet metal. Still shakes a little, the wear pads looked fine. any suggestions?
@WasherDryerMoney
@WasherDryerMoney Год назад
Hopefully there is not a crack where those plastic ears are on the drum. That’s very common for these type of washers to crack there. When these type of machines are still shaky, it could be that the platform it’s sitting on is not positioned right. You’ll see it slides between two plates and those plates need to be sat right. The leak could also be coming from the tub seal you could probably find a good video on how to replace that. good luck.
