@Vickie-Bligh Most litterbox avoidance starts with a UTI of or other issues making it uncomfortable to use the box like it needing cleaned or another animal making it difficult to be comfortable in the box. Cats don't not use the box out of spite.

@@nestpeeper Baloney. I agree with most of what you say, but stress causes litter box problems as well. And the owner can cause severe stress. I'm almost 70 and I've owned cats all my life. Multiple at a time and I know them.

@@Vickie-Bligh Age doesn't always equal knowledge. Just as stress induced doesn't equal spite, (and before you bring it up I will indoor marking ie spraying is also a sign of stress). Unless there is a health issue I including stress in health, causing litter box avoidance, cats use litter boxes by instinct.

My husband won’t let me get a cat, because he hates the smell of cat pee. It’s one of his most hated smells. That rug must of smelled so bad.

@@jenniferferreira9061 ¿Porque no le pusieron el cajón arenero?, es bastante infrecuente que los gatos orinen fuera de el, sólo cuándo marcan territorio y suelen ser esquinas y zócalos no alfombras, he tenido muchos gatos. :)

@jenniferferreira9061 I feel sorry for you, and I have been a catowner for many years. I had three cats at once, but they sadly passed away one by one. Last one in August 2022, and he was a mascot here at LCC for the ruggies. His name was Trollet and he was a brown tabby and a bengal mix! My cats have never peed inside, and I bought a cat litter called Everclean so the odor of cat pee wasn't present at all in my apartment. You have to clean the litter box often, of course! The cats never clawed the furniture either, so they kindly used their cat trees. My first cat was a brown masked blue-eyed sacred birma, and his name was Anakin. I also had a black and white female cat, and her name was Nera. Then, Trollet. Anakin became 17 years old, and Nera and Trollet became both 14 years old. Nera and Trollet were both rescue cats. Anakin was a gift from my husband and the best gift I have ever got in my life! They were indoor cats but appreciated leash walks outside. They are greatly missed!

@@susannesamuelsson2930 I’m so sorry for your loss. Also you’re so wonderful for rescuing the other cats. I told him that I would clean the litter box every day. He keeps saying no because of the cat urine smell. I’m home alone all day. Four years ago our Maltese , Minnie passed. Our landlady has a cat, I play with him all the time. 😊

@jenniferferreira9061 Yes, it's hard to lose pets, and i'm also sorry for your loss of Minnie, too! Both dogs and cats are good pets and a great company when you stay at home. My husband and I have decided together not to have any more pets due to our age, the apartment we live in now, the more costly life in general nowadays but mainly for the grief we both still feel after losing our beloved cats. It's nice that you can play a little with your land ladys cat, and who knows, perhaps one day you will have your very own little kitty 😺 cat!
