The way I play the chords at the beginning is basically by mapping the chords to the bottom three strings, and playing the A and the D as an open G shape so like ... C#m A D A F F#m D/A A e---------------------------------------------------------------------------- B---------------------------------------------------------------------------- G----6----------------------2----2------------------------------------------ D----6----------4----------3----4----4------------------------------------ A----4----4----5----4----3----4----5----4------------------------------ E----------5---(5)---5----1----2----5----5------------------------------ so I keep them nice and subtle and closed until the "baby when i close my eyes", that's where I start using more of the guitar and more arpeggiation rather than the heavy but sonically smaller thumping I start the song with. hope that helps :)
