I guess I can now call myself a washing machine technician. Thank you for the awesome instructions. A $20 part to repair an $800 washer was well worth the time spent watching and learning. One helpful hint for other novices like me...take lots of pictures and videos as you dismantle the washer. They'll come in handy when you need to put things back together.

You, sir, are a life saver! The night before we left on a 2 week holiday, our pump gave up the ghost. Knew when we came back that we would have a ton of laundry and a broken machine. Uggh! Picked up a new pump on the way home. Had a repairman lined up but he was backlogged at least a week. Not to mention we live in the country and there would be an additional service call charge. Found your video, (after looking at some not so helpful ones!) and figured I had nothing to lose after previewing it. Followed it step by step and before you know it, I have the machine working again like new! Not only did it save me a ton of money, my wife figures I am her hero. Thanks for this!

If they ever start awarding them, I think you should get the Nobel prize for RU-vid. Very good video. Easy to follow and lots of great explanations. No filler at all, just straight to the work. When my part arrived I was able to complete this repair without any trouble at all. Thank you, Steve.

Lol what? He skipped 90% of the close up shots and left everyone guessing about which screws, tabs or harnesses he was talking about. Who wants to guess when taking unfamiliar machinery apart? I appreciate the video of course, but the Nobel prize??? If you really want to help people, don't half-ass it.

Very good tutorial. Having seen several of these, yours is way on top of the best. Thank you for your time doing this. I also bought a spring removal tool. I knew I would most likely have to do this again. However I know I'll have to do this again. I attempt to repair all of my appliances and cars that I can. The only problem I have had is finding a an original OEM replacement part that is of good quality. As for my model of LG front loading washer, everyone lists OEM, the part may fit, the quality of the replacement item is most likely not reliable. Also price is not a sign of quality of what I have found out.

Big Thank you to the efforts of this video, this should be a wake up call to the manufactures to start engineering their products for end user replaceable parts. With the help of this video (during Covid) I changed this myself for $40CAD. A front door access panel would be a simple design to avoid the 30 min. it takes to get to this common replaceable part.
@MikkoRantalainen

I agree. And it would be good to make this pump (and especially the spinning part interfacing with water) higher quality so that this wouldn't be always the first part to fail.

@@indiscretion3877 Yeah, I just replaced the pump on our LG washing machine yesterday and it would have been nice if replacing the pump at the *bottom* of the machine wouldn't have started by removing the *top* and *front control panel* of the whole machine. Replacing the pump itself was fast and easy (except for those spring clamps always slipping away from my cheap pliers) but the extra work to access the pump was not fun - not hard but just time consuming. The machine has direct drive motor and all the parts and bearings still seemed to be in very good condition. So obviously the water pump is the worst part of the whole machine.
@scottyoung4226
@scottyoung4226 2 года назад
@@MikkoRantalainen: That spinning part is called an "impeller." Oddly enough, the way I figured that out was by searching "What is the name of the part that breaks on a washing machine pump motor?" I have a sneaking suspicion that the manufacturers purposely make it hard to get to, in order to sell more machines.
@dkhnova

Using a drill and a hacksaw, I cut an access hole at the bottom front of my washer, right in front of the coin trap filter and the pump. I covered the bare metal edges of the opening with some duct tape and I always place a thick towel over the bottom of the opening before I stick my hands through the hole. I've used it a couple of times to clean the coin trap and once to replace the pump. When I'm not using it I keep it covered with a piece of magnetic vinyl. It's especially convenient for me because I have the dryer stacked on top of the washer, so before I could remove the top of the washer so I can take off the back, I would first have to remove the dryer from on top of the washer. Ridiculous that the manufacturer didn't include an access panel on the front to be able to clean out the coin trap filter.

Thank you for the easy to follow video. I replaced mine with your video and an overnight ship from Amazon for $30. Saved several $$$. Thank you. One other note, this is the 2nd one I've replaced in about 7 years on my LG. So it may not be the last. 2nd time went better than the first. This time I wrote down my instructions ... for next time. 1) Disconnect washer - power and water 2) Remove Top - Top screws in back, slide back 3) Remove Control Panel - 1 screw in corner then 3 tabs and it pops off. Set it on top of washer but can leave it connected. 4) Remove drain clearance and plate (2 screws) 5) Remove gasket from front of washer - spring removal tool 6) Remove front of washer - 5 or 6 screws on top and 1 elec connection. Lift and remove 7) For ease of access, get a 4 x 4 to put under washer and raise it to 30 deg angle or so 8) Remove drain pump hoses by releasing clamps 9) Disconnect wires (note position - Brown Top Black bottom / take pic) 10) Remove pump assembly a. 2 screws from bottom hold it to bracket b. 3 bolts hold assembly to washer 11) Remove drain pump from assembly a. 3 screws - note orientation / Take pic 12) Remove white plastic pump cover 13) Replace pump 14) Reassemble pump assembly 15) Slide assembly in place 16) Be sure elec connections are good before securing pump assembly 17) …remaining assembly steps. 18) Test run before pushing it back in place

Thank you Steve. This was an excellent video which I followed step by step to replace my drain pump motor. My machine is 8 years old (model WM2801HWA) and this is the first issue we have had with it. We kept getting an "OE" error code and had to drain the tub out a few times. I did some research on the internet and found that the drain pump motor is typically the culprit. Once I figured that out I was fortunate to find your video. The entire process took about 75 minutes. Key was to have a second set of hands around putting the band clamp back on. Also, tried accessing the pump through the bottom of the unit, but given that the motor assembly was bolted down to the base, it made more sense to follow your instructions and go from the top down. Seems like LG could have engineered a removable door on the bottom of the unit to make everything far easier to access and save a bit of time.Lastly, when buying a replacement pump, I saw many folks had issues with non-OEM replacements, which lasted only a short while before needing to be replaced again. The majority of feedback on OEM replacements was positive, so that is what I went with.Thank you once again Steve. Keep these great videos coming!

Literally all you have to do is pull wiring, pull hoses, remove three screws at front, then pull out pump assembly. I had the whole thing replace in less than 30 minutes that way. Im pretty sure itd take at least 30 minutes to even get through half of the faceplate removal. 😅

I’m not sure why dangerously tipping a machine is preferable to doing a proper job. Why is everyone in such a hurry to accomplish what they are supposed to do in order to get back to staring at their phones as fast as possible? *ATTENTION* As someone who actually fixes things for a living, I suggest NOT taking shortcuts when repairing household items. Especially ones that have the potential to flood or start fires. Thanks.

I've done this 9 months ago and my pump is bad again (loose impleller- sound of impeller banging on the pump housing). When the pump was working, loud motor and water movement sound is evident but now the sound is just a motor rotating along with tapping sound like plastic to plastic caused by the impeller banging on the interior of the pump housing. Great to revisit youtube and found again how simple it can be. RU-vid presentations can always be easy. Usually what delays any job in real life/time is the preparation or availability of proper tools, worksite organization, lighting, some muscle power and grip/pinching power with the spring and electrical connectors and first and foremost the access to the machine. In my case, I do this onsite on the laundry room without moving the machine as it is fronting a narrow hallway. Moving it out then in after the repair is the hardest part and most time consuming. The access issue in removing the screws in the back of which you can loose and drop if not careful is resolved by a magnet, proper lighting, catch pan, mirror, stubby magnetic screwdriver, and patience. Before all this though ,the knowledge presented here makes this repair 90 % flawless. Thanks for posting!

Thanks, Steve! I followed your directions and was able to replace the failed drain pump. Saved hundreds of dollars on the repair! I did need some more tools that you didn't mention like a stubby Phillips screwdriver, right angle screwdriver, and I even used my socket wrench set to remove the front panel. This project is really for two people and took us several hours, but we got it done. One thing that I wanted to mention was that our ten year old washer has a rusted spring on the band clamp. Replacing this turned out to be the most difficult (and most frightening) step. I recommend those who attempt this repair examine their door boot and band clamp before beginning this project to determine whether it's time to replace those as well. Great video!!!

Please be sure to check all the tubes that are attached to the drainage system before you replace your pump. You can do this by simply tipping the machine. We found a large build up of silt/sand that was obstructing the large black hose that drains the tub. We pinched the clamp and pulled the end of the tube off. We unscrewed the wire that holds that gasket from the tub, then we pulled out the drain clean out. We poured hot water down it to flush the hose and scrubbed it with a bottle brush.

Hi there. I just replaced the pump, re-assembled everything correctly and set it to wash a load. I monitored everything throughout the entire cycle and even lifted the drain hose out from the drain to verify that the washer was indeed removing water out through the hose. The load ended, I opened the drain pump compartment and checked the hose (the small one with the screw cap) and I immediately noticed a small drizzle (bad sign). I then began unscrewing the drain pump's cap and sure enough it was full of water, which was my original problem. Any ideas on what to do next? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@@daniel_ukiah My LG always has some residual water in the drain hose (behind that panel) and pump filter assembly. The maintenance instructions for the washer indicate that you're supposed to drain it before cleaning the pump filter. So long as it's couple quarts or so, that's to be expected. The pump isn't going to be able to force enough air up the main drain hose to clear the water out of that into the drain! When my pump failed, it was obvious - nothing was making it up to the normal drain hose, it was making a bunch of noise, and the only thing the pump was able to do was to somewhat speed up draining the entire washing machine through the drain hose. I ended up finishing a load by initiating rinse and spin cycles from the front panel and draining the whole washing machine through the small drain hose - an hour of draining into tubs and having my kids run them to the sink. Now I'm replacing the pump motor assembly!

Thank you for this video! It was very helpful! I'd like to point out that its easier if you address the control panel retaining tab *before* you release the clips. If you do the clips first, it causes additional pressure against the tab - making it more difficult to pry. Also, its generally advised to use a phillips screwdriver to remove the bellows band clamp, as its less likely to cut into the rubber. However, my advice on that is to use a plastic pry tool as to not accidentally cut the expensive bellows.

Great video, very helpful for those inclined to pursue the art of repair for themselves. However, one step was omitted during reassembly. At 3:04 , during disassembly, you removed a short machine screw behind the drain pump panel. This screw retains the front panel of the washer in conjunction with several screws on the top of the front panel. You forgot to mention to install this short screw during reassembly. Otherwise, thank you ,sir.

I fixed my washer, LG WD-14376FD with this tutorial, pump is on the other side but 90% of the guide is pretty much the same! The only difficult part was the spring clamps, make sure you have some wide pliers to catch 2 out of 3 or you'll struggle a lot. I wouldn't have guessed about the plastic lock under the pump, you're a life saver! Thank you for saving me at least 100 euros. Replacement kit in Greece costed me 44euros including shipping and vat.

Thanks Steve! We downsized from a 2600+ sq ft house to an 1100 sq. ft mobile home, that I gutted and rebuilt. I designed the cubby around my washer and dryer, without a ton of free space. My wife walked in this morning and told me the washer was broken. Uh oh! I was relieved to see that I can disassemble this thing without moving it. I was dreading having to move it out. I'm in the middle of putting in a new heat pump, so this didn't happen at the most opportune time. My pump motor still seems to be running, but sounds like the impeller has come loose. I scrapped another older LG washer, and may actually have a spare pump. Now, if I can get my Bobcat Skidsteer running, life will be good!

My eleven-year-old LG stopped pumping. Your video gave clear and systematic instructions on how to get to the pump and replace it. Otherwise, it would have been a drawn out, frustrating, and perhaps futile attempt. I don't have exactly your model, but it was close enough. Given the video, the process was straightforward. For all of you other do-it-yourselfers, pay careful attention (as you remove it) to how the rubber gasket around the door seats. Also, for me, it took development of some technique to replace the spring-loaded retaining wire around the gasket. I'm pretty sure that Steve, the gentleman in the video, had done it a few times before. :-) Thank you PartSelect.

You did it again! Because of you I have replaced the circulation pump, the drain pump, the bellows, the hot water switch and some other kind of hose. My machine is 11 years old and I've had to call a tech out twice before I figured out this is something I could do on my own. The tech visits were $700. One replaced the gasket seal on the door and another was something else. And parts I've spent $150 to $200 on those four or five different fixes. I am grateful and monetarily indebted to you. Thanks

This was fantastic. My model is a little newer so the pump assembly was on a tray which had to be removed by a 10mm socket. Luckily mine just had some fabric caught which was causing the pump to not turn. This video was a great help. Did the whole tear apart and put back within 30 minutes.

By far one of the most useful tutorials in my household. I've had to replace the pump in my unit three times during its lifetime. For any of the comment readers I don't have the push tab pump release but have the bolt on unit. Looks like my bolts were 10mm if that's useful to anyone else. Also recommend buying the washer spring clamp removing tool for about $12 just to have it. It's janky trying to do this with pliers and a flathead.

Fantastic video, THANKS! Just an FYI, if you have a dryer stacked on top of your washer in a tight closet like me, instead of wrestling the dryer off and out, you may want to try simply sliding the top cover back (after loosening the screws on the back) with the dryer still on top. It worked for me and was able to follow the rest of this video to a tee! As noted by others . . . this video saved me a ton of $$$ on a service call!

Steve; I carefully watched your instructional video documenting the procedure for replacing a door seal on an LG Front load washer; your ability to communicate is nothing than outstanding ! Especially the segment pertaining to the fitment of the door seal to the washer's drum and the use of locking pliers and a flat-blade screwdriver to install the metal retaining ring to the drum-seal interface. The language was clear concise and unambiguous. The visual aspect of the video clearly depicted the finer points of the job with clarity and preciseness. I picked up on the Canadian🇨🇦accent as I live in Buffalo, NY on the border; hence the impeccable use of the English language. Keep up the good work and I look forward to viewing your productions in the future.
