Your precious honesty is refreshing. People toss and download there is a huge amount of effort and energy to be clean. You are a shining example for ALL.
@@valerieenglish1003where do you suggest she does this hmm? Inside the house, well that's more disgusting, or outside where dirt and crap will stick to it anyway because it's wet! Normal people don't have huge spaces where they are able to clean carpets so your comment itself is ridiculous!
@@valerieenglish1003 Thanks. I've got an abundance of space to use a bucket and a deck brush. And I'd rather try that. Thanks again for the adjusted tip!
Love the straight out honesty of “can’t afford it” people forget how much things cost especially with life right now, we’re all feeling the pinch, and when things can be done at home they should!
I agree! I also think it’s wild that the “norm” is paying other people to clean your things. Personally I’d much rather do it myself because I know I’ll do a good enough job
I take mine to a self serve car wash and hang it up where you put the car mats and then use the sprayer with soap and then clean water to rinse it. Works great.
Oh that’s so generous, thank you! I actually have one here with me right now, but the carpet is a tad too long for them, and stalls the machine/overheats it x
When I was a little kid (many years ago) my auntie would take her rug out into the front yard in the summer and hose it down, add some soap and have me and my sisters use our feet to "scrub" it. We wore our bathing suits, of course, and we thought it was great fun. Then she'd hose it down again and let it dry. I hadn't thought of that in years till I saw your video! Thanks!
That’s what I was thinking! It must have even been difficult to squeeze the water out of it three times and then lug it outside to hang! Kudos to this woman
As someone who looked into having my Ikea rugs cleaned professionally, I can confirm that it DOES cost as much as buying a new one. I used to rent one of those power washers which is very affordable as well and I clean allllll the furniture when I have it as well. It's an annual thing, also in summer. Why I haven't thought of soaking the carpet in the tub is beyond me though...probably because it gets super heavy.
@@ourgroovygarden I do that when I soak & pre wash my grotty work clothes. Wash it in the tub, rinse it with the shower & walk on it / stomp / March on it it get the water out. I got gifted a massive flexi (builders) trug bucket thing that I put it into to carry it down the stairs or it drips everywhere.
I wouldn't be able to lift that rug from the tub and carrying it outside without water all over the house? I wash my rugs on the drive way with a hose and soap. I also dry it on the drive way
I clean my outdoor rug on the driveway. I lay it out flat and hose it down with the hose. Then I pour soap all over it and scrub it with a soft brush. I make sure to rinse it well and squeeze out as much of the water as I can and then hang it up outside to dry.
Ive done mine that way too. I took a rug covered in dog hair to the big vacuums at the car wash and some gas stations. It helped lol. My vacuum just wasn't powerful enough. The tub works well for washing big things when you don't have driveway space. I love it when a big job like this is done and it smells fresh and clean!
@bunny_0288, I used to do this with our outdoor rug too. Now we borrow a pressure washer and it is amazing and quick! Highly recommend. Remi, love this idea! How do you transport it outside? Thanks!
@@remicloghey love! Just a quick thing I learned a few years ago: fabric softeners like Comfort (or any brand!) reduces the absorbency of fabrics including items like towels and rugs. With little ones, if they spill something the fabric won’t soak it up as well so liquid can pool underneath where you can’t see it, damaging the wood floor 😭 Even scarier, it makes things more flammable! 😭 It’s the biggest reason kids clothes shouldn’t be washed with fabric softener - it removes the flame retardants and actually makes them more flammable. If your rugs have been washed with fabric softener they’ll smell nice but god forbid if you have a house fire, they’ll go up like a Roman candle and might prevent you getting out 😭 Tumble dryer sheets are the same. A regular wash with detergent, without any other laundry stuff, is safest 🙌🏻❤️
Back in the days my grandmother had serious muscle of the daily chores in the house without use of electrical appliances. Washing was done in a wooden tub that you had to boil water for in big steel buckets, it had a handle on top that you moved back and forth and you pulled the clothes through a wringer. Everything was effort back in the day.
Borrow a carpet cleaning machine from someone. Use water with vinegar to rinse all the detergent and soap at the end. Any detergent remaining in a carpet attracts more dirt to stick easily.
I got rid of all the rugs in my home because it takes me way less time to sweep and mop all of our floors without them and they collect so many of my little ones crumbs and dust and dirt that it was all just too much for me😂 highly recommend going rug free!
ive been seeing people opt for those fun foam pads they usually have in day cares instead of a rug which is probably way softer and much easier to clean
I have a really short rug that collects dirt so I can vacuum it off and it doesn't spread as much to the rest of my apartment. it can also be machine washed and dries easily cause it's pretty short and backed in plastic. I absolutely love that thing. long fluffy rugs like that one though, yeah, I'd rather have a floor that I can mop and know it's super clean than wondering what got stuck in there that I can't get out...
@@myfriendscallmelee use the power washer at the car wash. You can even soap it up with the soap. Just make sure that you get every less bit rinsed out. It does become difficult to pick up so if you do it, make sure you have someone strong to help you. I like to put mine in the back of my truck to take home and leave out n the sunshine to dry. It can take a day so be patient. Make sure you try and squeegee out all the water before you move it
Hey, I just came across your channel and wow. After 10 years of watching youtube videos you are the 1st person I see with a normal home. You normalise that not all of us have money to throw around. Watched the video where you show you washing your shoes and you mentioned they are your only pair now and that was so true for me. I just buy what works for me and I use them as long as they hold up. Thank you for not being an influencer. Thank you for being a normal woman. Exactly what I needed. I always felt ashamed of not having what others have. You made me feel good about having what I have. I subscribed right away. Thank you!!!
@kristina03200 What a heartfelt comment! Truth is, you can only wear, drive, eat, sleep, live in ONE of whatever at a time anyway! Don’t feel ashamed of not having what others have. You would be SURPRISED at what some people do to get it(stuff) and even more surprised at what they do to keep it! Build wisely and slowly. 👍
Thank you for normalising what life with kids means! It means so much to me seeing other mum going trough all this stuff which I am going through! You are amazing showing us all this ! Each household has this kind of struggles sometimes but nobody is talking about that , everyone wants to look perfect!
@@remiclog🎉You deserve every good thing, my dear! You have helped me during some of my darkest days. Please remember that your honesty, love and transparency will resonate with so many. My love, you will surpass 100k in no time... Because Remi, people love you and your family! I love you! Sending love and prayers to you all! 🙏🏻❤️🕊️
Please skip the scent pearls, they are toxic for the water. Essential oils do the same but healthier. Otherwise great great job! ❤❤❤ I did this before and it took 5 rinses. But the results are amazing.
I do my own rugs too, they're so big and it cost so much to have them done, it takes a lot of effort but its worth it. I like your technique, I'll try that.
Hi Remi! I just found your channel this morning and I’ve binged watched every short you’ve posted and now I’m part way through your long form videos. I’d like to tell you why I love your channel and what it means to me. I’m a tidy person, and I do like to keep a clean house. I’ve tried to instill that in my kids, but my 18 year old daughter has executive function delays and she struggles with mundane tasks like chores, cleaning, self care and such. Your videos are helping me to better understand what my daughter must be feeling. How overwhelmed she feels when things seem too much. Your videos are teaching me how to help her by being understanding and compassionate. I learned a long time ago my daughter is not lazy. Her struggles are real and they are hers. They are not mine to control or to judge. Thank you for bringing this to light and showing people that just because a person struggles being tidy doesn’t mean they are “lazy”. I love your videos so so much. Thank you, Remi, for all that you do. ❤
When you get that fresh scent from washing rugs, it’s just the best! ✨ It’s so rewarding when you’ve worked hard to clean something and it looks fresh 🫧🧼
You are a strong mama bear! I can't even imagine how heavy that was wet and then having to put it up on the fence! 😮 And I love the "make do with what you have" perspective and lifestyle!
I wash my own rugs too. I take them outside, spray the driveway clean with my hose and then spread the rug out, get it all wet, soap it up and scrub with my long handle brush. Do it about 3 times rinse very well and rolled real tight to get water out and just like you hang it on my fence. LOL I love your videos, you're so real about everything. Big hello from San Antonio, TX USA
Sunning rugs and duvets is actually a really good antibacterial and anti odor practice in itself! More people need to take care of what they already have! Bet that clean rug feels so good, her fluff really came out for that sun and air 🌞
I use to wash my clothes in the tub and never thought about cleaning my rugs in the tub, and take advantage of the nice weather in Illinois. You have just encouraged me to try washing my area rugs in my tub and hang it out to dry. Thank you for sharing.
I make a shallow bath in the garden with tarpaulin sheet then I fill it and wash the rug using a yard brush. You can rinse it with a hose pipe. This way you don’t have to carry a heavy wet rug through the house.
@@remiclog I use to do the same thing my rug was a full sized rug I too couldn’t afford to have it cleaned. I would clean it on the deck a use a board to squeeze it out . I can so relate .💕💕💕💕💕
Kudos to you! No way I’m lifting that thing soak & wet. When my kids were little, a lot of the time we were strapped for money, we lived in what would be equivalent to council housing. One time the living room carpet was in desperate need of cleaning and I cleaned it by hand, my knuckles were so sore and bloody afterwards, ugh…it took days for them to heal. I swore that I’d never do that again (and I haven’t), but, I tell you that was the cleanest that carpet ever got, even better than the times when I used a carpet cleaner.😅
No shoes worn in the house..children eat a table ..no sippy cups only water..then you will be able to go a little longer to clean it..i love your strength and how you love to keep a clean home ..ur a great mom..❤❤blessings on you..
It always amazes me how much crap comes out of my rugs. Bravo for using the tub; take mine outside and do the scrub in the kiddie pool and hang on the back fence to dry. No way could I lug mine from the bathtub back outside...One of us wouldn't make it! LOL. Love your vids!
just a suggestion as your from the uk the rug doctor for hire from most supermarkets like tesco or asda is reasonably priced and makes cleaning the rugs easier also can be done when its not sunny. its like getting a professional clean but doing it yourself
AWESOME! We have to do what we have to do. As I live in an apartment, sometimes after vacuuming the rug and runner I hang them out the window for a few hours - WELL secured 😂 That's a 5 x 7 ft carpet and a 6 ft runner. Thank you for the GREAT upload! You go, Girl 🥰
in my country we clean rugs by puting them in a garage or a place outside where you can wet it then we scrub it with a hard brush hoose it scrub around 3 times then dry
This bought back so many childhood memories of my mum doing this in the summer with the rugs, curtains and large blankets. Washing the rug in the bath upstairs then lugging it down to hang out to dry. I've 'upgraded' now to a house with a shower (It was either a shower or a bath tub don't have the space for both) and I wish there was a cheap way to wash the rug and curtains.
Great job! I would do mine myself too. Otherwise, you’re right, it’s too expensive. Plus I don’t want them using chemicals when I have a cat and a dog. ❤
Brilliant idea. I’ve got a shaggy type rug from ikea and it’s an absolute bitch to clean and far too expensive for a professional, so, I’m gonna take advantage of the weather and use the hose and soap and leave it out to dry. Very rewarding though, seeing all the muck come out, I love that bit! 😂 xxx
The way you do it is good but I would recommend sticking it outside over something and using a pressure washer on low it did spray in the soap and let it drain on its own then you don't have to worry about draining it if it's outside and then use the pressure washer to scrub it the dirt out
I can't afford professional rug cleaning either, but I did purchase a carpet shampooer on sale for Christmas one year. It's been a great bonus! I used to do all my laundry in the bathtub using a plunger for the agitator, but knowing how heavy your rug must be, you are my hero! :)
I have large rugs like that and I put them on my patio and use the garden hose put cleaners on scrub with a mop or broom rinse and hang to dry. I have my husband help get some water out before we try to hang it. My little skinny arms could never lift it alone. I really enjoy watching your videos ❤❤❤
This is such a great idea! Professional rug cleaning is crazy expensive!!! and I’m not okay with some of the chemicals. Definitely will be giving this a try ❤❤😮
i love this! such a beautiful hardworking mama! i also love that youre not ashamed to say you cant afford a luxury like professional rug cleaning. its completely normal but so many people make it out to be an embarrassing thing.
RESPECT... Ma'am Not having money, allows for being creative... money in your pocket... food for your family... just the sweat of her 💪brow! A Very Wise Woman and mother😇 Great job!!! 👏
On sunny days, no matter the temperature out, you can hang your rug in full view of the sun for a couple hours. The UV rays helps sanitize and gets rid of odors! My mom makes us air out our rugs once a week
Wow, you are so badass! I could never carry that heavy rug outdoors and hang it up. I like your transparency, you’re honest and don’t try to act pretentious ( snobby in the US). I really like you. 😊
It's great having a good smelling hug 😊 In Brazil it is common to wash our rugs at home. We don't usually have bathtubs here, maybe our way of doing it is faster and makes less mess at home. We use a paved place in the backyard to place the rug, wet it with a hose and scrubbe the rug with soap and a broom. After rinsing we hang it up like you did on the fence. If you don't have a place big enough to spread the rug out on the backyard floor, maybe you can hang it over the fence with a brush instead of a broom. I imagine it must have been difficult to carry the wet rug out of the house
Thank you for being environmentally conscious and doing the work to clean your rug! So much better than that suggestion to dry clean it or worse, tossing it into the landfills. I wash most of my clothing by hand in the summer as well. I find it quite satisfying to see the dirt that comes out. Afterwards, I reuse that dirty water to flush my toilet several times. Save the planet! ❤
You are delightful. I watched a longer video of yours and promptly tidied my house. I'm just 3 days home from knee surgery, but even though it was painful, my walker helped me get it done. Thank you ❤️❤️
Thank you so much Remi, your videos make this 55+. woman feel less alone . I’ve always struggled with tidy news and clutter. Your videos are amazing for letting people know that this can be a real struggle for some of us.
Growing up my mom used to wash her thick heavy blankets like this. She used to fill the tub up and I would get in there with my cousins and stump our little hearts out. It was fun for us and she got her blankets cleaned. Win win situation.
Laying the rug in the sunshine between washes will kill off dust mites and help keep it fresh. Turn it over to do the underside - fantastic to do between washes.
Thanks for this now I can wash my rug! Your house is like my house and it's so hard for me to clean as I go. Its much easier for me to do big clean ups. Having 5 kids plus homeschooling them and a baby on the way makes it impossible to clean all the time. I'm so glad I found your channel. Definitely motivates me!
I have done laundry by hand for 8 yrs. I even did quilts and carpets. Couldn't afford to lug my laundry to the laundry mat. But God's great I saved enough to buy a washer dryer combo.😎 Cool Beans
