Washing the Coolest Saab Ever Made?

This Saab looks cool, the only issue is the damn paintwork that I couldn’t do much with.. So the car looks 2% better than it did before washing, the wheels looks goood tho!
I don't know whats wrong with the paintwork on this one, but it bothers me immensely that the spots are there, and won't come off with a wash or polish…And, it for sure didn't get any better with the spray on waxes I tried on.
So I kinda wish that my dad cared enough to get this car fixed, cause I think it would look smashing with new paint. But the shape of it as it is today is not very nice.

Cool.👍 I had to google what model Saab. Never seen that one before. Seems to be a Sonett III from early -70s. I think this car deserves a full restauration with a repaint. But I guess a good polish will make it look a little better. Probably single stage paint, so one would probably need a few pads to do a compound and polish. Edit: Just read that this car belongs to your father. Maybe you should convince him/yourself to do a "test-spot" on the bonnet with a dual-action machine and make a new Sonett III video? You probably have to hit the paint quite hard - something like a Rupes Blue wool pad and their coarse compound.🙂

Ooops, I forgot to mention the model yes, but yeah its a Sonett III. I agree with all that you are saying tho! If it was my car I think I would find someone who could do a total restoration on it, cause I do belive that this could be a cool(er) car than what it is at the moment. Interesting idea about the polishing, I just don't know yet, but not a dumb idea about the test spot! So who knows - maybe a new video coming soon about this car😻

A medium compounding with a Urofiber 50/50 pad with a D/A polisher would be a good start to that red paint I believe. One must go cautiously on older stage-1/single-stage paint - especially red! Once done a carnuba/carnuba base wax would be lovely. Again, especially on red! Such a cool car!

The car has glass fiber(?) on so it’s not a regular paint? At least that what my dad explained yesterday, so I’m confused about everything right now, so the dark spots is a unfortunately condition on this kind of cars - all my dads words.. So can I polish? Need to do some research I think😅 Yes! A carnauba wax is the same thing I thought of after polishing 😻

@Marte-Karen Selte I'm no expert. But I can tell you don't overthink it! I suspect that the paint may not be able to be renewed to original condition, but some polishing would definitely give it some luster. On a car of that vintage, there is no clearcoat - just paint. Machine polishing [to begin with] needs to be gentle. Try a spot [lower rear fender(?)] and experiment with a few pads and compounds - lighter to heavier... Once (if) you decide what works best, understand that the paint is old and beat up - don't expect perfection, just some nice enhancement. Remember, this car has had a life, and that's ok. It will have some patena...a few age spots here and there, a few dings & dents, scratches...it is to be expected! It's only original once!

Yes it is cool! But it’s soooo annoying that the paint is so bad😪 I like the TW Max Power, can be used to anything I feel! And I love the smell of it😻

that thing looks so good! i wonder if you need to sand the paint lightly just to get rid of the top layer of clear so you can polish the rest out.... great video nonetheless!
