I’m glad you’re sharing your experiences. You have my empathy. I also find these enlightening. I always had this assumption that celebrities lived in a bubble of privilege, but time and time again you’ve proved this wrong. No matter how many times you have been the principal actor of a television series or movie, you still deal with the same hassles and annoyances that hit the rest of us. That’s disheartening. I always treat airports/travel days as an exercise in patience and tolerance but it helps if I can laugh it off or at least get a good story out of it at the end of the day.
when Dulles first opened (1962?) it was state of the art. The terminal was 1/2 mile from the planes, and you had to get on "mobile lounges" to be transported to the plane. I think I remember that the architect won some sort of award. Since then it has grown a lot, and they have built additional terminals and finally (thank God) got rid of the "mobile lounges" and now have the trains to get you to your gate. Much better, believe me. It's really spread out and kind of a pain but I'm thinking most large airports are. It got much larger (more traffic) than ever anticipated.
I just got done watching Unholy Alliance I noticed how you changed into a completely different style when you and Xavier switched swords. That's what I call talent. Take care Mr Paul your one of the last heroes around we need you more than you know.
Sir, you could literally talk about paint drying with someone scratching a chalkboard in the background, and you would still find a way to make it interesting, educational and super Charming!
When I started travelling in my late teens, the airport shenanigans were part of the adventures. As travel became part of my work, all those delays and hassles just added to the stress. I'm at the point where I enjoy travel to get to the destination and the activity that awaits (whether work or pleasure) but the actual travelling portion is simply something to be weathered. And 9/11 and now covid has only made it even harder. Good luck! Safe travels!
Definitely have my sympathy! One time trying to catch my connector flight, traveling internationally, right as I got to the "correct" gate, the plane pulled away. Bought an expensive airport pint, to make sure I wouldn't say any four letter words!
Now that Ottawa is fully two levels, I'm really happy I just go there to pick people up. Toronto looks great! The highway is marked so that each section of the airport is an exit in and of itself! Even has a hotel attached, thank goodness. Many in that Etobicoke area have shuttles. You have to catch a ride to one in Ottawa, usually easiest on public transit.
I remember ,coming back from HLWW 10 2017 to Frankfurt Airport and we had the gate at the last corner of the airport! To get my language i had to work more than 45 minutes through it! I was so tired 😫 and walked on the running band, it was more comfortable! 🙄
I definitely understand your feelings! Luckily I didn't experience that when I went across country to visit my late Father N Seattle & had met the late owner of Nasty Mix records Ed locke (which was named after radio personality Nasty Nes Rodriguez.) That was N the early 90's & I was still N highschool!
I fly in and out of Dulles several times a year for both international and in-country trips. It is a hodgepodge of terminals and various inter-terminal transportation mechanisms -- trams, trains moving sidewalks, etc. As far as I know, beyond the main terminal, no 'design ' has actually been involved. Confusing, inefficient, a real pain in the butt.
Yeah, Dulles isn't the most efficient of airports. That's the one I'm most familiar with so I guess I don't think about it, but it is a bear to navigate. I'm sorry you had a bad experience.
Seems like a I had a similar experience either in Germany or Gatwick in London. Feels more Germany. Either way it is frustrating when it is poorly designed AND no one can give clear directions.
