These are some weirdo Coho! Coho Salomon are known for their aggressiveness. But when they hit Deep South Puget Sound they can be downright lockjawed. And crawl on the bottom like an ARMY or UNDEAD flounder! Thousands of Coho, but will any bite? #pugetsound #cohosalmon

Hey Blake, you even got a few cameo shots of my new boat and myself jigging for these crazed beasts. We landed four on jigs this year and that was a first for me. Usually they jump so much they come off. Nice to see you have a new ride also. Definitely be hitting them again next year.

Awesome video! You need a net with an extended handle. The fish that are rolling on top you need to troll a cut plug herring with no weight right in front of them. Try to cut in front of them. Your going to put those Uglysticks to the test. I used to use that method at Chambers . Chambers fish are picky but they love that herring right on top.

Whoops. I accidentally deleted my long comment. Hopefully this sums it up: I live here and fish them from my shore. They start showing up in mid September especially with heavy rain. They can be there for week or more before starting to jump. Going ultra slow is key as well as going small, like 1/4 oz Rooster Tails in Glitter Pink, #3 Blue Fox Spinner 1/4 ounce Chartreuse body and chrome blade, or 1/4 ounce Chartreuese and chrome Kastmaster, all on 4-6 lb test mono line. Those 3 can be real killers when nothing else works at all. No flashers or dodgers. GO AS SLOW AS POSSIBLE! So slow that they are close to not spinning on the spinners or just barely wobbling on the Kastmaster. The Blue Fox can use a tiny ball bearing swivel and several feet of leader to keep the line from twisting, and Roostertails don't need the swivel as they don't twist line easily. The fish can be boat shy possibly due to seal and sea lion pressure over time, so get on shore or anchor up sometimes and cast with spinning gear. Kayaks work well if just drifting near the schools and not over them. Crimped barbed hooks hold better than true barbless when they start doing their flipping and coho death rolls that spit hooks. Game wardens have always been cool with my crimped barb hooks in the area. I never use any hook larger than size 1, not even 1/0. Octopus and Siwash Open eye hooks. I'm no expert, but this has gotten my freezer full for years. :) Oh, and when all else fails with lockjaw coho, you can use barbless TNT. /s
@WAFishQuest
@WAFishQuest 3 часа назад
Sometimes the comments weirdly go on walks and come back so who knows. But thank you so much again! 🙏 I always forget the warden can't touch you so long as you use the barbless TNT 😅
@YoDawgUnleashed

@@WAFishQuest I should also add that giga-sized schools of locust-swarm chum can be in the south sound some years. Even small streams can get 10,000+ chum back on banger years. Since they usually spawn later than the coho in MA13, some of those fish on the fish finder could possibly be chum ignoring our coho gear.

When they go lock jaw in the salt I troll like 3-4mph and shorten my leaders for hootchies and spoons. Also been putting spin fish into the rotation despite my initial skepticism.... 25" leaders and fluorescent colors and a load of tuna in oil.

Awesome video blake. Do you have to use a down rigger for salmon fishing, or can you use the flasher setup without the down rigger. I know nothing about salmon fishing. But I want to learn
@WAFishQuest
@WAFishQuest 4 часа назад
Hey Adam! Nope, you don't need a downrigger. If you need to get deep you can use a cannonball sinker, a banana weight or a deep six diver to get to depth. I caught one just in a spinner the following weekend in this fishery too. Right on the surface. 😊
