Ask them what law gives them, the library, the right to place cameras all around the library to record the citizens. The answer is the same one that gives you the right. No expectation of privacy in public.
1st Amendment: Congress shall make no law... -respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the exercise thereof; -abridging the right to communicate ideas through spoken or written words or through conduct limited in form to that necessary to convey the idea; -abridging the right to publish and disseminate information, thoughts, and opinions without restraint or censorship; -abridging the right to hold public meetings or form associations without interference by the government -abridging the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Each and every principle of our Amendment rights have been done away with. Read everyone of the but at the end insert BUT... or EXCEPT WHEN...or IF YOU GET OUR PERMISSION.
The 5th and 14th amendments protect us from deprivation of liberty without due process. Which means we have the right to access any and all open to the public publicly owned property until we break a law. As no law can violate the constitution, we can also exercise our right of free press while we are there
Remember when librarians actually knew stuff and would happily help you? Apparently now they're more worried about feelings than doing their actual job.
That library is a joke and so are the people. I used to live there and me and my friends would go there and play chess, but one day they said you can't do that anymore because we were being too loud.
In Australia a librarian has to have a Degree from an accredited University. (College in the US). Your librarians seem not only uneducated but also rigidly refusing to extend their knowledge. Sadly that’s almost the opposite to how they should be. A good Librarian should always be learning, extending their knowledge base.
Enforcing feelings over law is exactly why the founding fathers wrote a document granting citizens inalienable rights... Feelings are a personal issue that should be handled by either a mental/medical professional not law enforcement. Perverting the law to harass a lawful citizen should be a crime in itself but they consider it part of their job. Innocent until someone's sensibility is injured.
@Nicholas Rhoden - Indeed. If I may be a "stickler" on one point, however. Our "inalienable rights" were not granted to us by our founding documents. They merely recognize and enumerate these rights. Our "rights" are granted to us from God. And, for those that are atheist or agnostic; that means our 'rights' come to us "naturally" simply by our being. This holds true whether you believe in God, Evolution, The Big Bang, Mere Chance or The Flying Spaghetti Monster. Any and all people have natural/inalienable rights that can NOT be taken from us by any government, entity or person. Sadly, however, although 'rights' can not be taken, - they sure can be violated!
@@Bearfoot_boy - LOL... I don't really know anything about the religion (cult?), other than that it "is". I can tell you, however, that I like mushrooms and parmesan cheese with my spaghetti!
The U S Supreme Court has ruled years ago that a camera in public is not a disturbance, nor suspicious, nor harassment. Whenever someone is feeling disturbed, or hassled, or nervous or upset, or uncomfortable IT'S A SELF INFLICTED WOUND.
Feeling uncomfortable or demonstrating self-inflicted fear by library staff is suppose to justify infringing on our rights. Cops response was appreciated.

Policies are ruining this country. People are uncomfortable, so these public servants come out to make a law-abiding citizen uncomfortable. “We’re just talking” after threatening the citizen by calling the police and attempting to violate his 4th amendment right.
And the problem is: the policies are selective and discriminatory/ (there is selective enforcement based on Discrimination). If you surreptitiously belong to a preferred class (LGBTQ, Black, Brown, or all other manner of meaningless superficial [divide and conquer] category that does not include patriotic white male/ Republican/ Libertarian/ Conservative, or someone with a camera, etc.) then you are automatically granted special protection/ class status. The irony and hypocrisy is that the very people who are proclaiming class status and protection, are hypocritically engaging in the very behaviors they proclaim to be victims of (discrimination, racism, sexism, etc. etc.)
That's a damn shame. Yeah they failed on many counts: * not having a copy of Constitution available * not knowing where their own civics section was * calling cops for no valid reason Audit them again to see if they humbled themselves and took the time heed your advice about knowing and upholding the 1st Amendment
While they didn't know the law, the librarians weren't too over the top other than the untrue accusations. It was great to see the police officer's attitude. Overall, a useful audit. Thanks!
The constitution is in a lot of books, encyclopedia, law books, state books. There also a book of the constitution all by itself, or should be like it was when I was in school. Haveing a education in the library field she should know exactly where to go get the sole book ( copy ).
So the Sargent said that he and the lieutenant had to come because they were busy, then the lieutenant said they are going to stick around because he has paperwork to do Yet when you were leaving it was obvious they were just sticking around to make the employees feel safe. I would have questioned that logic. Safe from what? How ridiculous
That's fkcn embarrasing - they dont have book of the Constitution that can be checked out? Amazon has a pocket size one for $5.99 that they could buy to loan out, and a beautiful leather bound one for $46.99 they could buy for "in Library use only." (I'll bet you $100 one of the referece librarians at that branch could walk you straight to it (cuz it is there somewhere) - reference librarians know everything about everything or know how to find out. I once called a library at 2am to settle a bar bet. 2am here, but 5pm in Australia. They speak english (with a cute accent) and they told me the last college basketball team in USA that went undefeated was in 1976 INDIANA national champs.
Shout to you my Brother, keep up the good fight, san joaquin valley transparency sent me link from the DMV audit the other day. I will start auditing soon just a like but 😏😏
Still not accepted that she was in the wrong. Can’t accept instead of buying into their “feelings” she should be educating people that it’s the law. I’m uncomfortable that she wears boring clothes is she going to buy new ones? It’s nonsense.
If these guys were legitimately press, that would have some meaning here. Could you please point out just a few of your favorite news reporters who "report" exclusively on the confrontations they instigate between themselves and members of the public, various public employees, and most often, law enforcement officers each day... and routinely engage in verbal assaults, insults, taunting, threatening lawsuits and to end the careers of the individuals they engage with, most often police and other public employees, as a normal part of reporting the so-called news that they themselves create ? These self proclaimed "auditors" provoke conflict in order to record the confrontations they contrive for the purpose of producing entertaining videos which they distribute to their audience for profit. That's not what reporters do. That's certainly not what journalists do. For all the claims they make about "working on a story", you'd think at least one of them would produce a story at some point. But no. They never do. They do post what amount to daily vlogs on RU-vid that show their interactions with people while trying to get adverse reactions out of them so that they'll contact the police, because when the police respond, wasting public resources, they get the most views and make the most money when they have adversarial interactions with police, especially when they're able to insult and belittle police. A private citizen is well within their rights to record any and all people in public. However, these "auditors" are not acting as private citizens. They are producing a product which they distribute for profit. This is a commercial venture for them. Any such filming in public for profit requires that the commercial entity filming must obtain permission from the individuals they record, hence enlisting them to perform for them in their business product. The only commercial entities which are exempt from obtaining permission to use the images of individuals in public are those who report the news. Vlogs which record one's daily activities as described above are not news outlets. These are provocateurs who are out to earn a living by recording themselves starting confrontations rather than getting a normal job...not journalists. So they're not entitled to the exemption from obtaining permission for using the images of individuals they record in public... They should be required to obtain permission, and whe necessary, negotiate compensation for those they use as the subject matter of their entertainment product they provide, starring themselves and members of the public or public employees. In fact, contriving situations in order to get police called to respond and enlisting other public employees to unwillingly serve as characters and provide the content for their videos while they are on the taxpayer-funded timeclock is a direct misuse of public funds. Regardless, they're getting away with enjoying the exceptions held out for news outlets while not actually serving the function of a news outlet and routinely make varying claims of being private citizens one minute and "the press" the next minute, depending on what best suits their needs. They're disingenuous, provocateurs, disrupters, and disturbers of the peace at best, and often foul, crude, disrespectful, threatening, drains in public funds who are constantly attempting to manipulate situations in order to afford themselves an opportunity to file a frivolous lawsuit in order to cash in and collect a fat paycheck funded by wasted tax dollars. If they truly cared about "educating" anyone, which few if any are actually at all qualified to do, there are a hundred more productive positive and successful ways that it could be done. But none of those would be as lucrative for them or give them a chance to cash in from a frivolous lawsuit.

Sr, I’ve had some folks tell is that they’re uncomfortable with you being here in the library because you’re (black, gay, Latino, have blue hair, filming in a public building, etc.). Why do some people think they some sort of right to never be “uncomfortable” from someone else exercising a Constitutional right? Such entitlement and ignorance.
Bryan C. I went to the see a game between the cowboys & dolphins at the cowboys stadium, many many yrs ago. I went with my son in law and other family members of his. I have been a dolphins fan all my life, so i made sure to ware as much dolphins gear that i could to that game, lol. Some family members chose not to go, because they were afraid of what may happen to me, or them. So, the dolphins actually beat the cowboys that day, and nothing happened to me, or anyone else for that matter. Sure there were several people that made comments to me, but i just ignored them, laughed, and kept on walking. I would like to assume that nobody wanted to physically attack me, due to the fact that i am a very large ex- football player, but i know i would be wrong. I just think that there are poeple who simply can not control their emoticons no matter where they are, so they react in whatever way they can. I let them own that feeling, without judging them, or saying a word, and typically they just go away. Words do not threaten me. Actions, or reactions towards me does, and i handle that threat with appropriate means. Just saying.
Let's say i'm buying a home in reno and am choosing a neighborhood to live in ; i happen to require a great library for me and my school age kids to use, and this is one beautiful library - i can see myself at one of those litte tables, sitting down amongst the palm trees and reading a newspaper - I'm old school and i 'm a paper boy. I usually read a foriegn paper like a London Times, sometimes Al Jazera. I'm going to give these guys another chance. I'd like them to be trained to give enthusiastic lesson on the 1st Amendment to patrons who are suffering from self inflicted wounds of feeling uncomfortable, or disturbed, or nervous, or hassled. Cheer them up and tell them if you dont want the government to tell you where to go to church, you also dont want the government to tell the Press where they can or cannot go in public. It's The 1st Amendment.
Good to see the cops know the law and didn't violate your rights. Seems lots of police departments should send their officers to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office for training!!
I think this is a first in reno law enforcement history to have officers that know the law. Good job brother keep exposing the good and bad of the reno police. Thank you for all you do
Wow!!!! Find it on the internet is the easiest way?!?!?! You asked to see the hard copy. You’re there as a customer and she shows the the way to do it at home. So if that’s her suggestion why have the library? Is she looking to be unemployed? Good lord!!!!! Why do we have so many pubic servants? The internet should have made our taxes decrease with all the work they no longer have to do. Yet they just keep increasing?!?!?! Ridiculous
I filmed that entire library about 7 yrs ago 2016 0r 2017 and never had a problem lol. I even talked to staff, with my cell held up in plain sight. no one even approached me. granted I didn't walk up to staff doors, but I was close to them and they are covered fairly well, unless you are over 6ft tall you cannot see in. Amazing when the head of the library states you can film here but then wants to put BS restrictions on feelings. They have cameras everywhere. Anyone who thinks their cameras are private should look at all the "private" security cameras that the police get when they are searching for where a suspect went. They get all the cameras in the area if they can. I noticed the cops stayed...doing paperwork roflmao
The way you handle things is much appreciated and a relief from most of these other Auditor or Frauditor channels they can be so disrespectful to the public servants very unnecessary, but you handle your audits with class. 🇺🇸😊
I am so glad that had got taken care of for you. I am happy that you are in this life. You are the one in Reno that I know of that is the only American man in Reno.
It is awful that you have a kind demeanor and are doing absolutely nothing wrong and they call law enforcement!!! How in the world does someone walking around not speaking to anyone offend someone!!! The dumbing down of America is amazing!!!
So now we need an 11th comandment thou shall not feel uncomfortable and we need to change the first amendment to you have a right not to feel uncomfortable.
Do they still have card catalogs? The only Constitution at the library is in the kids section in an encyclopedia? Very important document should be readily and easily available to all citizens in a public library.
I'm only 20mins in and my head hurts. 1st off, thats the most amazing library ive ever seen. I would take pictures seeing those amazing plants, they have photo ops everywhere in that place! Aside from that you walk into a library ask what seems to be the highest one there for assistance, 6yrs+ on the job. And she 1st shows you the constitution on the internet, then gets even more frazzled when you were looking for it in an actual book?! I gotta continue watching now to see if she ever finds a book...
she knows nothing probably sitting in her office doing nothing nothing she says means nothing drawing her salary for doing nothing round of applause for you and the two cops well done regards from liverpool uk
The old card catalogs and libraries that I grew up with always worked. Keep up the wonderful work.. Blessings to you and yours coming at you from the hills of Southern Oregon
You do not need prior authorization to record in public libraries. However contrary to what people think or believe, Libraries, considered to be Limited Public Forums can set forth policies in regards to recording or photography inside. Libraries Federal courts have deemed public libraries to be a "limited public forum," which means public libraries have some discretion to reasonably restrict the exercise of free speech rights in their buildings - especially to the extent that the conduct in question would be disruptive to the other patrons or inconsistent with the library's fundamental mission. In most cases, taking photographs and/or recording videos of library staff or patrons without their permission can be prohibited as a matter of library policy
You have no expectation of privacy at the library. Someone quietly walking and taking videocannt be reasonably be said to be disruptive; so there goes your argument. If someone quietly recording"disturbs" or disrupts what you are doing then you are not focused on what you claim you are doing. Too many people like you take the letter of thelaw to defeat the spirit of the law either due to an inability to understand the intent and purpose of the law or more often due to a malicious and subversive Intent.
@@albertstephen2426 I 100% agree with the statement "I am not being disruptive, so I can film". However, I've seen enough auditors twist that position into "I am filming, so nothing I do can be considered disruptive," and use it to justify some truly atrocious and abusive behavior.
@@nder What you fail to admit us that in virtulyevery single case it is response to deliberate violation of their rights . If people were to simply respect their right to film in public none of this would happen. That is the whole point, to be able to exercise the right to film in public without being challenged, harassed or arrested. If people were to ignore them the same way they ignore the multiple security cameras the library has constantly recording them there will be no auditors.
@@albertstephen2426 And if RU-vid cracked down on their content the same way they did to 'practical joke' channels a few years back, there would be about 95% less auditors. In my experience, for every sincere 1st Amendment activist, there are 3 or 4 folks of the 'let's go bother people at work for clicks n views - also please donate to my legal defense fund' variety.
I watch a lot of first amendment audits and there's something about your channel and how you do it that is just top shelf sir. I love what your doing and how your doing it. Keep up the outstanding work man. Thank you.
Dispatch should say. Put your big girl pants on and go back to work and ignore what the camera person is doing and stop trying to infringe on his/her first amendment right before you find yourself on the wrong end of a lawsuit. But please call us anytime there is a real emergency
Extremely subjective opinion from the library staff here , they state that the auditor almost went into a private area, theoretically one could be almost committing a host of crimes , driving down a road with people on the pavement could be construed as almost running them over , walking past houses could be almost entering them , you'd never leave the house living under those kind of constictions.
The Dewey decimal system if I remember correctly for the card catalogs. I don’t believe I’ve been here in a library since the 80’s unless it was to fix their copier/fax machines. Looking at that library with all the area used for plants, it would be nice if they had identifiers and their info for each.
I am a retired veteran of the US Army. I recently found your channel a couple days ago and really appreciate what you do. If we do not keep everyone informed then the feelings of the few will replace the rights of everyone. I would hate to not be able to take pictures of my family in public because it makes someone “uncomfortable”. The Bill of Rights was created because government is historically famous for overreach. People need to stop and think if what they are upset about is reasonable. You have a new subscriber and supporter.
This was a great outcome, wish more officers were swift to uphold the constitution. I hope this librarian actually took note and learned from this experience.
The reality of our nation, laws, jurisprudence, and just being human, is that many times the justified/ justifiable reasons for things (such as Laws, Constitutional Rights, etc.) are not abundantly clear, or easy to understand. Thus people are not aware, do not understand, or cannot learn, or perceive why laws or rights are enumerated. The worst problem arguably, is people who go through life willfully ignorant (willful ignorance), and not simply due the complexity of life, or situations/ issues / circumstances which arise in life: People who are not even willing to try to learn or understand, how or why people who were likely more intelligent and perceptive than they are, wrote laws and Constitutions (and the most important fundamental reasons that necessitated those Constitutional and Human Rights (such as the History of the World, actions of Governments, Empires, Dictatorships, Royal Families, Usury Bankers, etc.) These people who don't take the time to educate themselves (whether they are in government or not) and blindly accept media information (usually fake journalism/ and false or incomplete narratives) as fact, are why we are loosing out rights. And by fake journalism, I mean journalism that is not real investigative journalism, -petty crime, weather, sports, entertainment, and all other manner of meaningless [divide and conquer] distraction and diatribe.
