Washoe County Sheriff's Office Patrol deputies and sergeants were the first to arrive at a fully engulfed structure fire on Ted Court September 7, 2021.
When they arrived, residents were obviously scared and frazzled. Our deputies immediately began directing community members to vacate the highly volatile scene, as first priority is always to make sure people are safe.
Sergeants on scene were also actively looking for the nearest fire hydrant to make sure Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue crews had ready access to water. The closest fire hydrant was 150 yards away. And once fire crews got on scene, their engine was quickly running out of water. Getting fire crews water from the hydrant was of upmost importance to prevent the fire incident from spreading.
Sergeant Joe Colacurcio, Sergeant Brian Atkinson, Deputy Ken Rangle, Deputy Thomas Wood, Deputy Blake Lux, and Deputy William Gibson all went above and beyond the call of duty. They assisted by running the hose line up the hill to the hydrant, and hooked it up. This allowed the first firefighters on scene to continue battling the flames from their engine staged at Ted Court.
Their actions helped to mitigate the fire spread, and shows the commitment the men and women of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office have for our community.

It's odd to me that the Washoe SHERIFFS have body worn cameras here in this incident report.....but the Washoe SHERIFFS who shot and killed a man didn't.

I don’t know who had the body cam but someone owes that man a beer…. and probably an oxygen bottle.

When I saw L.E. helping pull hose my jaw hit the floor. In ten years I've never seen them do anything to help us on scene. I wonder if they stuck around to help them wring the hose and lay it back in the hose bed? 😁 In all seriousness it was really cool to see the law enforcement and fire Dept work together!

Lol all these cars get out of here, but like they always do like a moth to the flame look who’s parked right in the way

I’m amazed that the engine operator didn’t catch a hydrant on the way in and do a forward lay. Good cooperation, though. Thankfully.

Such a waste of manpower running a supply line that way. They are lucky they had the PD/SO to help them hump that supply line all the way to the hydrant. I don’t know why these departments don’t just drop a supply line at the hydrant and run it off to the fire. 🤦‍♂️

Probably because they didn't know there was a closer hydrant or else they would have

In firefighting you don’t waste time looking for the closest hydrant, you use the first one you come across. Because looking for a possible closer hydrant when there may not be one can cost you valuable time.

@@JNDlego57 it’s the driver and the rig officer to know where the hydrants are before they get on scene.

Except for not flushing the hydrant, these guys run hydrant operations better than most departments.

OK, if the Chief officer knew where the hydrant was before the truck arrived, why didn't he just have them back up to the hydrant and then lay the line into the fire? That would have taken FAR less time then what they did. Or why didn't they take one of the police SUV'S that you see in video and back it to the truck, have them open the back of the SUV and run it into the SUV and have someone sit on the hose and hold it and just pull it up to the hydrant? They could have also placed it thru a side passenger window, run it back out the open door, closed the door over the hose and has someone just hold the door shut. Think outside of the box people. Some of those people pulling that hose looked anything but in good shape.

Police should have informed fire there wasn't anyone in the house. Therefore they could look at the onboard map or run card and know where the hydrant was that they know they need to catch and drop the bag and take a wrap and roll to the scene. That's a lot of supply line humping.
