To all those who want to learn about the history of Fuji Music... Now sit down let me lecture you about Fuji. Fuji is the name of a mountain in Japan...back in the day Japanese/Chinese and Indian Movies reigned in Lagos Mainland where Wèrè, Apala and Sakara music was prominent. Sikiru Ayinde Barrister wanted to sing his Wèrè music all year round but the challenge was that the music was seasonal as it only came out during Ramadan. As such, he deduced that the only way to sing all year round was to introduce other popular secular music and incorporate it into his Wèrè (as wèrè was more or less a religious music). However, Ayinde Barrister didn't want to settle or fit into the lower pecking order of other yoruba music genres therefore decided to carve out his own style. He therefore decided to take in bits and pieces of other yoruba music genres and other type of music and incorporate all together and fuse it all as one. He thought about a name for the newly formed music genre and Fuji name came to mind. Fuji sounded like Faaji (which is what music was for in a yoruba community anyway). Hence the name Fuji. A lot of other prominent musicians laughed and mocked Barrister's newly formed music genre back then and called it 'gbogbo ęlęrę' meaning 'all type of music'. However, none really thought highly of the prospects as they felt it wasn't gnna last but to their amazement, it was the talk of the town because whenever Barrister played, he was able to cut across everyone irrespective of their choice of music (as he sang all types of music that were prominent amongst yorubas then). Soon after, many people would rather call Barrister to their parties because with Barrister playing at your party, you'll get Sakara Music, Apala Muisc, Afro Music, Wèrè Music and so on. Do you need more?!!

Honestly speaking, I'm a lover of Fuji Music especially Alhaji Agba brand(May his soul continue to rest in peace). Thou, no one disputed Barrister been creator of Fuji in his life time. Barrister created Fuji, Wasiu and others popularized it, is a credit to Alhaji Agba. If after his death, any story emerged, that should not cause all these controversy here and there. I can see jealous and hatred written on people's face against Wasiu. We all know the stream of Fuji musicians in the 80s and how many of them still exist now. Those whose career as Fuji music has faded away should stop the jealous and hatred and those in vogue now should concentrate on their career rather than allowing jealous and hatred to take over them.
