I totally agree with you. I hope they dont nerf Lu Fei too much, Freya's story is pretty good but the stats make it not worth it. Anyways adding companions is a good idea and the world feels more alive 👍
Agreed, I think he could thematically do with a small nerf, but I don't mind him and Freya being the same power level. Hopefully they don't give him a massive nerf though, doing so just because he's a sorcerer would render him basically undesirable 😂
It is overdone and boring as you want a dynamic with a companion a interesting back and forth. Not another fetch quest or worse a escort quest which is more likely if given a passive companion. Also no one survives in the Conan universe being a Damsel, it wouldn't fit in world. Want a damsel in distress play mario where Peach is the McGuffin and the gameplay is the priority.
I play a sorcerer so im excited for lui . i just wish he would do more casting. Also wish i could get some more spells. They left room to add some but i doubt they will add em. We still havent gotten more contracts or anything from the tavern system
Sounds like about what I expected them to be. It's tricky to develop something like this and find the balance between pure power creep over existing Thrall options, and making them feel more powerful in a way that is meaningful. I am looking forward to doing both quests, and I hope that this is something they add more of in the future because it helps the Exiled Lands feel more alive and interesting when there are stories out there to interact with. Something I would like to see from a system like this down the road is long term passive things as a result of completing their quests and/or keeping them around. For example, what if stationing Freya in or around an active player Tavern causes more NPCs in Nordic dress to show up? Or what if Liu Fei could teach me new Sorceries or buff my sorceries, or cause Sorcerers to show up in the Tavern sometimes? Or maybe they could give me leads sometimes when I talk to them where the game can spawn either an NPC or a treasure box somewhere that they send me to go do something with. Stuff like that. Doesn't need to be much or to be fancy, just something that allows them to be more than just another Thrall.
Good point on the power creep tbh, the thrall and perk changes way back in Age of Sorcery were deliberately to stop thralls stealing the show in terms of power, I imagine they'd like to avoid just re-adding that concept with companions. I would very much like the learn more from the companions. A new spell from Liu Fei, maybe some techniques or special Aesir recipes from Freya, the little things would build a lot on the world building and value of each companion
Maybe I'm asking for too much, but it would be nice if these two new thralls had dialogue when following you. For example during a fight or on your travels, some dialogue would be nice.
They are supposed to, though I haven't heard any myself either. Dennis said they'll talk about places and people they see as they travel, I'm guessing it's not fully implemented yet in the beta though
I am not going to lie here, I was expecting more out of this. It is only the first of maybe many "companions." I enjoyed it enough in a game that is rather bereft of active story telling. One big thing that I was expecting from the live stream is that the characters become essentially mute once you finish the respective quests. I am sure I heard that they would comment on their surroundings as they travelled the exiled lands. Maybe I just didn't see it in my play through, but it's my experience that they revert to dumb followers after the fact. It is nice to see another sorcery actively using the mechanic other than yourself. I think sorcery itself needs a big balance pass or rework. Most of the spells are quiet useless. Creeping horde, I'm looking at you.
Yeah I would have wanted a bit more, but for a first iteration, I think it could have been worse. Future companions will doubtless improve over these. The devs did say companions will have ambient dialogue after the quest, I'm guessing it might not be fully implemented yet in the beta, same with Freya's Gjermundbu helmet. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of time was spent focusing on Living Settlements, and assuming that the ambient VA is as simple as creating triggers at different locations, I could see it falling low in priorities for beta launch. I think they'll probably be available on the live servers
I think we need a lot of companion with storyline quests. with different kind of thralls: artisan, bearer, fighter etc ... Because 2 or even, with other chapters...5...It's like, a demo, a proof of concept I hope they add companions also after this age. I think It's a good adition to pve content, and we need a lot more of them.
It is funny how the sorcerer dude is a better fighter than warrior women? He could be bulky Thrall can use some sorcery spells similar to corrupted sorcerer player would be.
Aye, the adventuring parts sound enjoyable, but the waiting eight hours inbetween each doesn't. No matter how these companions are changed later, however, it isn't like they are coming to replace all the others. I do look forward to adding this Freya to my (relatively) long list of Viking warriors. Until then.. Skål! 🍻

I think I'll play the quests but both of them after will stay in my base roasting pork or staying in the tavern... i have better companions to fight with.
I don’t see the point in them. Seeing as Funcom Nerfed all followers (Thralls) to be next to useless, I don’t think they are worth any investment at all, bit like Legendary weapons, next to useless now you can’t repair them.
I just hope the update is completely free and nothing is locked by the bazaar. Modders are out there doing more for conan than funcom ever will again and the content is better. It's really a shame, but here's where we are.
Everything gameplay-wise is free, there's obviously the stuff in the Bazaar but anything in terms of playable content is always free. Modders always do a great job too ofc
@@gilbertobrandina9487 The context I'm talking about is the exiled land. Besides the main point is what makes for interesting gameplay. We use thralls and companions to either do something. A companion shouldn't be giving quests that bore the player. It would be much more fun to have them show you their story fighting along side you and making commentary along the journey.
Freya no better than T5-6 purge thralls, certainly not as good as Zerker. Liu Fei has good attack modifiers, but is a glass cannon AND takes damage from his imp and the imp takes friendly fire as well. Really sad considering this is one of the main themes for this Age. Failcom strikes again, really lazy approach to this Age. So much promise, so little delivered.
Companions are lack luster. We need new dungeon every update! That would always be more interesting. Also, having time gates in a game is way of saying, they have very little content. Bad management makes these decisions to put lipstick on a pig.
Haven't compared all the data yet myself, TheRicardobtc pretty much said what I've heard a lot of other people say though, Liu Fei is topping the list at the moment
I think these followers come too late in the game. By the time I can get them I have already two berserkers with at least level 10 and can complete the story line with ease. So what are they for and who needs them?
