@@Fishster So funny, at least DDDA you could find some unique armors or weapons at cave by chance, but it seems much worse now than it's ever been in DD2. Problem being that in DDDA, every chest has is set loot and it's randomized, so have fun save scuming for good loot. Then when you realize that's the only way for some vocations to get good weapons and armor it'll really piss you off.

Just a wake up call: Whatever DD2 is doing, it beats Elden Ring. Elden Ring was literally riding a horse through copy paste enemies, to get to a copy paste catacomb, and fight a copy paste boss to open a chest that had an item with a 8% chance said item fit your build. Elden ring sucked. This game at least makes the act of exploration meaningful and fun.

After 80 hours mostly spent exploring and maxing vocations, I actually uninstalled the game before even finishing the first few missions from Brant out of sheer, unbearable boredom. And I'm the sort who will put hundreds of hours into games I hate _just to make a point._ The thought of having to run around doing _yet more_ busywork just to get some old man to get the hell out of jail was a hard nope. No game sequel has ever disappointed me to this degree. If I'd known about the changes from the first, I wouldn't have bought DD2 at all. That's how different it is from what I'd expected. Maybe I wouldn't have felt my brain leaking out of my ear while playing had the game not felt like a gutted, version of DD1, worse in every way except graphics: - simplified equipment - single weapons only - fewer available skills - fewer enabled skills - somehow _more_ skill overlap within vocations despite having fewer skills in total - more useless skills, again despite there being fewer skills in total - audio/video feedback on attacks and spells so bad you have to watch life bars just to see whether something connects - hyper-aggressive hopping over obstacles making precise movement painful - removed mobility skills (e.g., no double jump or levitate for Magick Archer) - inability to sell from storage - inability to even equip from storage - pawns that actually push you off ledges - forgettable score other than the callbacks to DD1 - unreasonable NPC pop-in - mind-numbing quests - pretty but sluggish movement - tiny enemy variety - inability to heal loss gauge except through rest, leading to time-wasting trudging to campfires - pointlessly hidden vocations and "maister" skills - fucking annoying pawns that you don't dare mute because their dialogue is one of the primary ways to recognize the potentially game-ruining dragonsplague - wtf is the point of Pinpoint Volley except to make yourself worse? - baffling design decisions like Quickcast and Galvanize - aiming your bow shouldn't count as an ability And so on and so forth. To go into more detail, Galvanize and Quickspell are wasted abilities, because _you always use them,_ so they might as well be static abilities. Casting times are just too goddamn long otherwise. Strictly dominant strategies make for boring gameplay, and so the Sorcerer would have been more interesting had Quickspell and Galvanize just actually been static. If casting times had been universally decreased, stamina costs increased, and stamina regeneration rate improved while not moving, then Quickspell and Galvanize could have been replaced with genuinely interesting abilities that actually do something. Like, I dunno, more spell slots, like we had in DD1. You could even have the design space to play around with different ideas, such as having every Sorcerer pick a theme, and those buttons can only be assigned spells from special lists specific to the chosen theme. Let's not forget that most vocations in DD1 could simultaneously equip melee and ranged weapons. The variety in combat this fostered was one of the things that kept the first game so fresh for so long. One moment, you're using one of your three dagger skills, and the next you're using one of your three bow skills, and this alternation kept going through every combat. It was fluid and dynamic and *fun.* In DD2, by contrast, you just spam whatever your best ability is most of the time, every moment of every fight along every road. The combat decision tree is basically a straight line. Gah! Just thinking of all the wasted potential makes me angry. Mostly it makes me want to go back and do yet another playthrough of DDDA.

Another thing that I have noticed while watching armour and outfit showcase videos of the game that the devs have downgraded the clothing mechanic interms fashion freedom (or fashionsouls as we call it in the dark souls community). In the original game (Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen/DDA) you have two slots where you can equip clothes and armour for the upper body, and pants and Greaves for Lower body. Plus the glove/gauntlet for the arms. This gives you the freedom to come up with cool fashion combined with character creation. Here are my examples that I made. A wolf warrior with brown leather armour, dark elf strider dressed in white trophy jacket, and a crimson mage (think of the desert pyromancer in Dark souls 2 for a reference). Now with DD2 the Devs just said "fuck it. combined the two clothe, armour and gloves into one armour set and call it a day". Say you like a piece of armour but you didn't like gloves or Greaves. Well tough luck you can't remove/change it which is a bomer. Dragon's dogma 2 has badass armour sets and lovely skimpy outfits. But I do miss level of freedom in the original game 😕

@Dantexshadows
@Dantexshadows 2 месяца назад
I understand why they did it, but I don't agree with it. It's because in the original and in Dark Arisen, a lot of vocations just lacked gear out right in comparison to others. Fighters, Striders, Mages had great gear progression across the board, but warriors lacked good-looking armor up until the end game. Rangers and sorcerer lacked good weapons (literally, they have only access to less than ten weapons while fighter has like 25+ swords for the whole game) and good-looking armor for a long time until post-game even. Assassin doesn't have good armor sets fitting for him at all until everfall and BBI. Mystic Knight and Magic Archer are desperate to find good magic shields and bows in the early game and won't find them until they enter the face "The Dragon" quest or stage of the game. Dark Arisen made the old DLC armor and weapon packs purchasable in game, but they're weak until dragon forged. Where they messed up in the original is that if you make your up own set of “armor” or fashion the results can be great or meh. Without much of an in between. Also, that the female character model had way more stuff to play with than males did. The female model has access to the best underclothing in the game for legs at least. The last point I bring up is that a lot of armors and armor sets was just lacking or just straight up incomplete. Missing pieces from switch from Dragon's Dogma to Dark Arisen. The massive jump in op gear in the end game when you finish BBI. Then every vocation becomes godlike and can't die to anything outside BBI.

"This game is worse that the first game in every way and has been dragged through the mud, and if you disagree with me, then you've just defending the publisher." That's a hell of a take, but I'll take the bait and leave a comment because I generally like your work and enjoyed my time with the game. STORY The story is absolutely the weakest aspect of the game, and I agree on the multiverse fatigue. (It's almost as annoying as The Silent Protagonist.) But I do think the story had some interesting ideas. The Dragon and the Arisen being locked in a cycle is interesting. The fact that the Dragon chooses the mortal that it will eventually battle to determine the fate of the cycle is interesting. But the fact that people think the Dragon is the antagonist shows just how flawed the storytelling is. The Cycle itself is the true antagonist. I think that's the point the game is trying to make, but sadly that concept is almost completely divorced from the open world gameplay. QUESTS Some are interesting, but the main quest line does a poor job of reinforcing the story, the main characters and how they drive towards the conclusion. Again, the introduce interesting concepts like a False Arisen, but very little is actually done with it. Some side quests are better than others and introduce characters and fights that I enjoyed. Other are pretty lackluster. The fact that there are a couple of stealth quests in a game with no stealth mechanics is pretty bad. And while I appreciated the fact that pawns travel between worlds and know some quest NPCs and destinations, Capcom again didn't do enough with it. Those are the two biggest issues with the game's design. Which is why if you approach Dragon's Dogma 2 thinking it is a story based RPG with a robust quest system (like The Witcher 3), you are probably going to have a bad time. If you approach the quests as something that requires you to "ping pong" across the map just to complete it ASAP, you may also have a bad time. But if you approach it as an open world exploration game first and foremost (like Outward), and think of quests as "something to do when I find my way back there" instead of "something I need to do immediately", you're likely to have a much better experience. I know I did. I did hate some of the ways quests become locked out to you based on invisible milestones. I don't mind quests being time sensitive. I even respect it. If the world doesn't stand still for the protagonist, it makes it feel more real. But I would at least like to know about it first. EXPLORATION The game has great environmental storytelling, and I really enjoyed roaming and exploring the world. It doesn't have the same sense of discovery as something like Elden Ring, but what else does? Where I think Capcom missed the mark was having different weapons, armor and vocations mostly tied to vendors instead of being out in the world to find. There are a few quests, usually for Maister skills, that did an okay job at this, but they could have taken it much farther. Imagine needing to find a vocation master and having them accompany you on a quest to teach you the vocation, not just as a set of skills, but as a way to see the world. The closest we get to this is the Mystic Spearhand NPC telling you how it was a combat art designed specifically to fight dragons (yet we never fight a dragon WITH them).

FAST TRAVEL The fact that fast travel is actively discouraged in this game and is a limited resource is a good thing in my opinion. We already know that when fast travel is freely available, you get Starfield and load screen after load screen. Players would instantly bypass the world instead of being part of it. I think the addition of ox carts was pretty genius as a middle ground option between walking and teleporting that fit perfectly within the narrative of the world. Even the accidental destruction of ox carts is something I saw as dynamic storytelling rather than added tedium, probably because didn't see DD2 as a series of quests to be completed. To me, it was about a journey, not a destination. The game is what was happening between the cities and towns, not just the destinations themselves. And while I can see why limited fast travel would piss some players off, I still respect it as a design choice. INVENTORY MANAGEMENT Weight limits like the one in DD2 are the least interesting way to restrict the player. I would rather they allow you to buy a mule with saddlebags that you needed to protect, even if it meant that it could un off and die in the brine with all your stuff. At least that would be an interesting risk vs reward tradeoff. A big part of the reason that I was able to enjoy exploration and why fast travel (or lack of) didn't bother me is because I played with a single mod on PC that set all item weight to zero. That one single change made the game 100% better. Even without the mod there were always vendors I could sell stuff too to lighten my load, so it wasn't a huge deal, but in a world with magic we should 100% have a bag/chest of holding that we can buy (looking at you too Larian). Giving players a way we can eliminate/reduce inconvenience as a form of progression is good design. VOCATIONS I like the base design of the vocations. I also think it's fine that some vocations are "Overpowered". Balance is overrated. You can make a RPG with 100+ weapons and spells that all do 1d6 damage and it would be perfectly balanced, but not very fun. My issue is that Capcom didn't do enough to tie vocations to the setting and to incentivize mastering multiple vocations. Vocations like the Magick Archer, Mystic Spearhand and Trickster should have required the mastery of base classes first. Mastering the Archer and Mage, for example, to then combine them (as only The Arisen can) would have been a way to get players to engage with swapping vocations while also tying it to the lore and world building. The biggest miss in terms of vocations is the Warfarer. Rather than just being another choice, especially one that loses a dedicated skill button, it could have been an extremely cool vocation to chase for the end game that allowed players to mix and match skills freely. They could have even expanded their weapon upgrade system to allow Warfarers to merge existing magic weapons into Legendary weapons. Imagine combining a Sorcerer staff and a Warrior greatsword into a giant spellsword that allowed you to cast the abilities from both vocations while equipped. COMBAT I really enjoyed the combat system in DD2. While I know that a lot of people disliked the lack of an active dodge input, I enjoyed vocations like the Fighter and Mystic Spearhand that had weapon skills that could double as a dash. Even the Magick Archer allowed you to shield your allies. I wish every vocation had a similar weapon skill or core ability that offered something similar. The Mage and Sorcerer lacking a magic "bubble shield" similar to the Spearhand is something I found confusing. I also appreciated the incantation system for casters as well, even if Capcom could have done more with it. For example, give powerful spells two or three charging "levels" that each take longer than the last. The tradeoff for a quick spell vs a heavy hitting spell would have given casters a higher skill ceiling. ENEMY VARIETY/CHALLENGE I know this was another big complaint, but it didn't bother me as much as some people. As a tabletop dungeon master for games like Pathfinder and D&D, I know what it is like coming up with random encounter tables for the kinds of monsters that you fight in different regions. The game could have used more enemy diversity, no doubt, but it wasn't something that I found annoying. What I would have appreciated are more wandering monsters. Capcom already knows how to make these kinds of creatures, and a Rathalos or Anjanath random encounter is way WAY more fun than any cyclops in DD2. This goes for the level of challenge that monsters provide as well. I didn't mind some of the fights feeling repetitive. An ogre is only so smart. But I definitely think enemies needed more ways to challenge you. The wolves that can grab a player and run away with them is a perfect example. We should see more of that in these games! Harpies should not only pick up your pawns, but should try to drop them from great heights or throw them into the Brine. The player should be TERRIFIED of a facing a pack of harpies while on a narrow ledge, not just inconvenienced. Pulling enemies into advantageous terrain should be a major concern for the player, not just a happy accident. Again, Capcom already knows how to do this with Monster Hunter. Outside of drakes and dragons, the only real challenge I had in DD2 was when multiple enemy packs got involved in the same fight. ECONOMY/MTX There needs to be more ways to earn RC in game, even if you could trade gold for RC that would at least be something. Hell, have a RC vendor that lets you trade in items for RC that allows other players to buy those items from a global inventory. Make Kojima proud! But having RC only gained via other players selecting your pawns or by "awakening" summoning stones is too passive. The RC you can get in the store is extremely limited, and I think it caps out at like 10k total if you bought it all. That's nothing. Just as it is with most of the MTX. MTX is this game is an idiot tax. Not only are they not necessary, you'd have to be an idiot to actually buy them. Plus, the vast majority of the MTX are things you'd get as part of the Deluxe Edition bundle, yet no one has a problem with that. I think much of the MTX 'controversy" around this game is overblown rage bait used to generate clicks and views. Do MTX in single player games suck? Sure. I don't like them either. But that ship sailed back in 2006 with Oblivion's horse armor. Better to just ignore it and move on when the MTX are as non-impactful as they are in DD2. You can tell me to "fuck off from gaming" for this, but that genie is never getting back into the bottle. You can't prevent MTX from showing up in games. Boycotting is ineffective. Review bombing is a childish temper tantrum. All you can do is NOT BUY the MTX. GAME PERFORMANCE Abysmal. Easily the worst part of the game. Crashes and complete lack of CPU optimization especially. This is a perfect example of why I normally never pre-order games and even try to wait 3-6 months after launch to buy them. You always have a better experience if you wait. But I made an exception for DD2, so some of the blame is on me for being impatient. Overall I think Dragon's Dogma 2 is a flawed game, but a very good game. I don't think it is a masterpiece, but I think there is room for B Tier games even from AAA developers, so long as they take chances and make something unique. A game for everybody is a game for nobody. Is the game worth $70? To me it was, or I would have waited for a sale. I'm coming up on 90 hours played, and while hours per dollar isn't a perfect value metric, I've already got my money's worth from the game. I also wouldn't have written a novel as a comment if I didn't enjoy the game and respect and enjoy your videos.

I know this is subjective but I don't like how we had more abilities in DD 1 and the ability to swap between them but In DD2, this was removed. You have 4 main abilities. If you pick Wayfarer, you lose 1 skill to have the ability to swap and the other 3 are split between whatever 2 classes you want to play with. No no no. IMO, they should have given you the ability to have at least double that.

Baffling how they lowered the active skills you equip. In the design document I wrote for my Ideal Dragon's Dogma Sequel years ago, the default is 8. With the right Augments equipped you can have up to *TWENTY FOUR* active skills • R1 + Face Buttons = 4 • L1 + Face Buttons = 4 Which are the default. • R1 + D-Pad Buttons = 4 • L1 + D-Pad Buttons = 4 • L2 + Face Buttons = 4 • L2 + D-Pad Buttons = 4 Which are unlocked by equipping certain Augments.

Disclaimer - I've got 110+ hours with this game and would say I rather enjoyed my playtime. Several criticism points though: 1. Exploration being such a huge part of the game clashes with the nighttime having numerous cool monsters that you barely see otherwise. Noone who wants to actually explore the game will try to do so while being nearly blind due to view distance, at least I avoided running around at night 99% of the time. 2. Combat is fun, but is incredibly unbalanced - dps classes like Thief and Spearhand having readily available "i'm immortal" buttons that allow them to be better tanks that fighters, stagger on stuff like Helm Splitter being able to rival Warrior AND a ton of damage on top of that. Yyyyyah. 3. Monsters are trivialized by select ultrahitting attacks (which not every class have access to, adding to the lack of balance) OR by stagger. On top of making the game too easy it also limits the buildcrafting by a lot - most skills don't have a niche, or the niche is to limited, when you have skills that fall in the "ultra dps","ultra stagger" or both categories. 4. For Warrior specifically I think this is my absolute favourite class in the game thematically, but is heavily unpolished - shoulder barge is ultra short distance, and the whole class would gain a ton of flexibility if you could use it mid-charge of a skill without restarting the charging from scratch. Without this most skills are borderline useless. I would also want a bit more animation cancelling potential for most skills, because the skills that do allow animation cancelling feel fantastic, but thosthat don't have this option feel clunky. 5. Going back to the world and quests - holy cow the quest system is bad. Sure, having missable quests is fine and fun, but not when its a freaking chain of quests and the later parts don't even show in your log. On top of that some MAJOR chains arent even initiated unless you actively scour the lactions for them! If I didn't know to not turn in the 15 crystals too soon, I would've missed out on ALL BUT 2 quests in Bakbathal, this is outrageous. 6. Endgame and especially NG+ is a huge missed opportunity, too limited, should've been so much more. In general I heavily agree that its a darn good game that should've been a masterpiece, but couldn't.

I recently played Dark Arisen on Hard from a new save and it elevated the experience. Those bandit/goblin fights that are tedious on Normal get turned into life and death until quite a ways into the game. There were times where I was going around enemy groups because I was low on resources. Having a harder difficulty setting would raise the stakes of travel in DD2 and help with the realism of monsters being able to kill you.

Gonna guess Task manager priority mod to change cpu priority Any armor mod, because with 3 less armor slots and with how easy the game is ,armor is already pretty much cosmetic. No stamina drain outside combat. And lastly wild loot? Removes certain weapons from shops and then swaps stats around to ensure weapons found in chests are always better than shop weapons. This one is my favorite.

Lol damn bro you got almost all of them! I also use the mod that enables DLSS 3.0 for 20 and 30 series graphics cards. It causes the ui to flicker but I use REFramework so I can turn the ui off with a hotkey whenever I want. This FINALLY made the game run at a playable framerate (even tho I have a pretty good rig) and exploring without the ui is so much better. I only turn it on when I'm about to loot a chest, just in case it's a new piece of gear

Also let’s not forget how you can be in the middle of move (Skullcrusher or whatever it is thief has-the flip) that hits enemies (goblins/other humans) multiple times and they can just stop being staggered and start staggering you. That’s not how it works. If im hitting another person over and over they aren’t going to just stop taking damage and start staggering me. That’s the point of STAGGER. I'm a ddda fan, I was really looking forward to the second dogma. It's good that I didn't buy it. My disappointment is difficult to describe without swearing. Even the combat system, which is considered a positive aspect of the game, seems less deep than in the first game (yes, the animations are better, but nothing more). The variety of opponents is less, even if you exclude the Dark Arizen. New mechanics (for example, camp rest and dragon plague) seem to be specially made to stretch out the game time. The warfarer class is generally some kind of lazy crap... why come up with a new class, just make it from all the others, but at the same time it will be worse than any of them

Concerning the easy difficulty, I have a really easy explanation: You either have stat-based (like Diablo or Baldurs Gate) or action-based difficulty (like in Dark Souls), with dodge or parry mechanics. Obviously Dark Souls has stats as well, but you can theoretically win the game without level up and new items. Games like the Witcher 3 try to balance these two aspects and theoretically DD2 does does it as well, but most classes simply don't have action based mechanics to dodge or evade attacks. Thus it's mostly about stats and the underlying rpg mechanics of DD2 are super simple and, as you stated, easy to snowball for the player. Even the endgame bosses don't have any attacks you have to dodge or any mechanics you have to learn, you either facetank the attacks (with Warri/Figher) or you stand far away do be save 90% of the time.

the story could have been better a lot better, if anything if the story was better little issues like stamina and fast travel wouyld not be so bad, there's just no follow through even with the final big bad at the very end it should have been a fight like how it was in the 1st game, they have all the animations and resources from the old game you see that from all the reused enemies. Capcom insisted that the game be 70 - 80 usd but then gave the team 390 people to work with. that's just beyond stupid and very unacceptable. However DD2 is one of my favorite games it captured me people saying it's bad is fine I like hearihg differing opinions because there is plenty I agree with or can learn. There’s lots to like, combat, pawns, crafting. What really pulls it down for me is it doesn’t respect my time. In fact it actively abuses it. Running out of stamina just running around, sitting on benches waiting for stuff. Interrupt ox cart rides and even smashing the cart sometimes. Loads of fetch quests forcing this travel. Infuriating.

I enjoyed DD2 warts and all, but I am not gonna pretend it doesn't have those warts. I spent over 100 hours with it, and had fun, so I can't say I didn't get my moneys worth, but I can definitely see areas to improve upon, and potential unrealized. While it isn't fair to judge it for something it is not, it doesn't exist in a vacuum either, and released to an audience that have played games like Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate, and Monster Hunter, it will be compared to those. So while I liked it, and had fun with it, I absolutely can also see that it could have been so much more, and the potential untapped is a damn shame. I agree with RPG Divisions score, it could have been an 8 or even a 9, but for me the biggest detriments are: that it doesn't have enough challenging content to match the power of the player, it doesn't have much replayability, most if not all of the quests, and storylines, don't mean anything in the long run, only getting to the dragon really means anything, and too many designs waste player's time for no reason. Fast travel should have eventually become commonplace (eternal ferristone) by the end of the game. There needed to be a lot less travel for its own sake, passing time for no reason (sitting on benches to advance quests that just told you to "come back later" for no reason), and the ever terrible escort quest should be forgotten to game design forever more. With all of those, it does land in the D+ - C- range which would be a 6 or 7 out of 10.

The challenge disappears because the monsters don't really improve at all. At first, some enemies are very hard (and by at first I mean in the first 20 levels or so), but once players have some idea of what they are doing, get vocations unlocked, start getting gear and levels, as you mentioned, it all snowballs. It is very likely on a standard playthrough, you will be level 40 or 50 by end game, and well before then, you will have trivialized every combat encounter. I stopped dying in DD2 around level 25, unless it was environmental (fall damage and the brine are the game's actual bosses). So plainly put, the options for powering up your character quickly outpace what the monsters are capable of challenging, and there isn't a hard mode, or difficulty sliders, or anything. The newish monsters in Unmoored world are largely just reskins, and even they are no match for the power output levels that skills and gear provide. NG+, unlike many other games, doesn't get any harder either, it really is just restarting with all your gear and skills etc. So the game lacks challenge, and by the end, it becomes mindless because players are so strong they don't need any tactics to win any fight (thief literally can kill anything easily with just Skullsplitter spam, and Magic Archer is like a cheat code to the game). So to sum up, players and the options they get, vastly overpower even the most challenging enemies in the game, there isn't any difficulty really, and the fights become so short and so mindlessly easy, they lose any value pretty fast because they are all foregone conclusions. No risk of loss demolishes combat interest.
@Arcessitor
@Arcessitor Месяц назад
I dunno I think the enemies pose no real threat due to the nature of the combat system. It's built around enemies doing a move instead of spinning around to just hit you. Downside is that there are just blindspots you can stand in where no enemies could possibly hit you. I found that to be true of all enemies except for maybe the Sphinx, but I had Mystic Spearhand for that fight with predictable results.

My biggest gripe is why did they limit our skills, devastating. Its the reason why Dogma was so fun and its the only game so far that just plain fun. No story, no side quests, just pure funn killing monsters. I feel monsters are lacking, endworld is bad vs DD1, side quests are left wanting more. Its good and bad in DD2, romance was made worse. I loved this game, but you raise good criticism. For the record I played with a mod to eliminate weight and to be able to have infinite stamina out of combat. I personally didn't mind the portcrystal system and I always had resources to get more ferrystones when I started to need them and I didn't experience any tedium. I've adhd, I'm very impatient, and rarely I felt overwhelmed by travel, and I do get overwhelmed by travel in many, many games. I enjoyed the early friction with the travel system and after 10-20h it was basically non-existent due to enough money to buy ferrystones. It's a very subjective matter. I do not like revisiting the same place several times, and I didn't feel like I was doing it as I progressed, but perhaps we play differently. I did not like the difficulty, it was too easy, and there's no hard mode (although I'm kind of a souls vet, so bear that in mind), that being said, it's fairly easy to mod it to get more difficulty on PC and I will probably do that in a potential NG+ run (rip consoles) - combat seems to be designed for a much more difficult game, it is so very in depth and has such a high skill ceiling that makes you wonder why there wasn't a hard mode or something at release. The Devil May Cry influence is pretty big there, and it carries this game very very hard. I enjoyed the story quite a lot. I'm not saying it's a Dostoievski novel or something, but I find it has good characters with complex motivations that don't fall into cliché good or evil. There's a reason for the Dragon to be like that, and it's that it's not a regular Dragon *SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER* it was used by the Pathfinder, who in this reality gained the powers of this world's Seneschal, which is now in ghost form, and betrayed The Greater Will. The Dragon didn't even want to keep the cycle going, and he constantly hints you to find a way to get to the True Ending. The antagonist IS NOT the Dragon. It's the Pathfinder, and in that way, you face 'em at most steps of the game (which is how you write an antagonist in literature 101). It's a well constructed villain that misunderstood the Greater Will and took all the power to restrict everyone's free will in the cycle, which is something the Greater Will doesn't want. In that sense, this is, strictly, a sequel to DD1 and not a reimagining. In regards to the more Game of Thrones, boots to the ground plot, Disa and Phaesus had good goals in mind. Disa wanted his son to be king, and his son happens to be the most apt person for it; Phaesus wants to stop the Dragon's Dogma to keep happening. It's the means both employ that is evil, and in fact they side with you at the end, which make them pretty complex and human characters. You could say the narrative is disjointed, with slow pacing, but the game wanted a more realistic travel that wanted to make you feel like you're in that world, and I find that OK. The worst part about the story is that the translation from Japanese wasn't the best, I'd say. *SPOILER END SPOILER END SPOILER END* It certainly has some flaws, but it's also a damn good game. We'll see what happens when the inevitable endgame DLC drops, I'm hoping for better class balancing and more difficulty.

Thanks for sharing this! It's very important to state that DD2 is mostly mediocre. And that objectively that has nothing to do with the amount of fun you can have by playing it. It's just that for a company this big I expected some things to be just better, you know? Let me share some thoughts with you too: - Totally agree with the poor quality of the story. - The world's aesthetics has some dense feeling around it, doesn't it? I agree with you. It's beautiful, more detailed, more immersive than most other games. Although this too could be much better if exploration was actually meaningfull, enemies more varied and if you could just walk around for more than 10 seconds without being interrupted by some mindless goblins or whatever - At first, I kinda liked the fact that you had to meet masters around the world to unlock new vocations. I like the ideia of learning new combat styles from your travels. But... the way the game actually do this is ridiculous. You just talk to some random guy and puff: "you've learned a new vocation". Lazy bastards. - The lack of fast travel, because of all the other problems the game has, becomes a real issue, for sure. It could perhaps be a tool for enhancing immersion, but with the lacking in enemie variety, the non stop talking pawns (and also the fact that they sometimes get stuck and die kk), the monsters overcrowding the road and attacking you all the time.. it's just a pain. And I think it's even worst, considering the fact that devs criticized other companies for not being able to develop true engaging open worlds and having to count on fast travel systems to fill this gap. - I think, for me, what actually saved the experience is the way the game ecourages you to try different vocations. This kept things fresh for me! - Know what really bothers me? The feeling that by watching the trailers before the game's release we have seen it all. We have basically seen all enemies, vocations and skills in the trailers kkk I though they were showing just a small portion of the game... but no! That was all they had to show kk - I also hate the fact that you can't dodge in this game. I really like the fact that when you get hit you feel dizzy and stunned. It's very realistic. But not being able to dodge or evade attacks is not realistic at all... it's just... wtf.
@PedanticTwit

The dodging thing is extra crazy, because all the dagger-wielding vocations (that's four of the nine total) in DDDA could both dodge and double jump.

In my opinion who's already spent around 86 hours into the game that Dragon's Dogma 2 is an improvement from DD 1 not the dark arisen just the base game overall... yes the unmoored world can count as the everfall but the thing is you can only access umoored world for a limited time if I recall you only have 7 days before the smoky cloud take over the world you can destroy the pillar and stop it but the monster after 1 week won't respawn... it's lacking the Bitter Black Isle vibe and endgameness to it... in bitter black isle you get the sense of "VERY HARD" content but in drgon's dogma 2 it's just dd1 base game but improved when I say improved I mean like improved a lot, but the things I don't like about DD 2 is that the chest is not respawnable T.T it's annoying but whatever... other than that the game is great for content wise, combat, etc... . THE BAD THING is PERFORMANCE ... OMG I cna't tell how much I stressed about this stuff ... okay so I have RTX 3060 12GB VRAM, i5 13400F, 16GB RAM, SSD Gen 4 you know that my pc is not a potato at all ... this game is somehow capable of performing worse then RE 4 like gosh ... okay so here's all my complain about the performance, and graphical issue in this game, ray tracing is good but there's this smearing when I turn around especially it's very noticable on grass... the shadow ... I look at the PS 5 version of the game and I see the shadow is crystal clear even at distant but in the steam version is not unless you set the shadow at max but that thing is not stable, very unstable... and again u need at least run this game at 1440p to look good... I don't know why but AAA game for the couple last year is not fit for 1080p at all like 1080p is always blurry even tho u're not using upscaling at all. I will recommend this game to anyone until capcom fix the performance issue in this game. if they're not fix it I will just tell them to go buy the PS 5 version instead.

So many comments saying the combat in DD2 is improved over DDDA. Now, you may find the sequel's combat exceptionally fun, but fun is a purely subjective, normative judgement. We can yell at each other until the heat death of the universe without making any headway on that front. What we _can_ talk about meaningfully is combat depth, and DD2's combat is objectively, numerically provably shallower than DDDA. Unless you've developed new Peano axioms under which 1>2 and 4>6? No? Didn't think so. Honestly, it's like people are conflating flashy animations with quality gameplay. I actually saw a video posted on Reddit supposedly showing how awesome and definitely-not-boring DD2's combat is, and the video was of a fight against a gryphon in which the gryphon _did absolutely nothing._ Literally. It got immediately knocked out of the sky and then wailed on for nearly a minute before dying. Huzzah. Such drama. Much excite.

I put 126 hours in DD2, i give it a low 8 personally. I do hope the DLC and patches over the year improves it alot but we shouldn't have to wait for Fixes and DLC to realize a game at its full potential. Stellar blade demo stole my hype from DD2 and Unicorn overlord is absolutely stealing my Gaming soul in the meantime lol which i didnt expect cause DD2 was one of my most hyped games for a decade.

Majority of the story still does suck, I agree. nobody remembers what the original Vernworth Arisen (your character) of looks like besides mostly Bryant? All the city people just all somehow forget you entirely and accept this Arisen from Wish smh.

That's because you never made it to vernworth proper. You were taken from melves to batthal after you got deep fried by the dragon.

@@angellara7040you do tho, the first cutscene shows Bryant introducing you to townspeople at the castle as the Arisen in first person. Then time stops and you pass out and are sent to the excavation site with amnesia ment to be posing as a pawn slave.

The second is the same as the first. You appreciated the main story for what it is worth, but it only kept anyone coming back over so many years because of bitter black isle, which gave the game most of its enemy variety. Most people are right to feel how they feel about the game and cant say they are incorrect, but at the same time most are use to cookie cutter rpgs telling them how to do everything. Most people complaining about the story in this game can't even tell you what the story is about. Im not saying this could of been done better and capcom is amazing at story telling, but people really do come with a sense of entitlement these days and complain about the silliest things, such as fast travel. I mean to progress in some quest all you had to do was turn around and talk to the npc behind you, it just didnt point it out. Other times it is definitely a bit sloppy in game design. People who haven't played the first game and have come to respect it for what its worth are probably not going enjoy the second one as well. In the first game you bought all your "good" weapons. The dlc rift crystals were used as currency to crack open your gear in the dlc, which once again a currency exchange. The first game you could find some cool progression weapons and its the same in this one. They needed more enemy variety in the desert area and could of added orcs or something from their mmo or simply created something fun and new. Also could of gave you fortresses or strongholds to raid with a bunch of mini bosses along the way to slow enemy density if the player wanted, but they didnt so all we can do is see if their dlc will hold up to their last one or the game will be forgotten about. A hard mode and a equal dlc to bitterblack and they have given me all i would most likely expect. Point me in the direction of good games these days and i will follow. Most games are watered down for over monetization and broader public. Elden ring is a fine example of a watered down genre. All it is now is a bunch of people spamming overpowered anime moves and a repetitive open world that gets boring fast. Previous dark souls were much better.

This game is strange you would think after all those years they would have improved the game. Take for example fast travel, the game does not respect your time. The developers stated they wanted you to go on an adventure so they limited the amount of fast travel. You need to get portcrystals which are very limited unless you buy them from the microtransactions. Then you have to use ferrystones which can be expensive to buy within the game. I understood traveling on foot to discover a new location but once its discovered and if I want to come back to the place I have to travel all the way back by foot. In the witcher 3 you also have to travel by foot or horse but once you discover a new location the fast travel becomes available. You discovered the location thats it. Why make the player have to walk all the way back and forth. Additionally the inventory management in this game is not good. For a game that requires to travel by foot a lot you are picking up a lot of items and the weight adds up so quickly. The weight system in this game is bad. Finally the enemy variety in the game is very limited. Sure fighting so many harpies and goblins gets boring so fast. Most of the enemies are from the first game. The game needs a lot of improvement. There is a lot of potential to be an awesome game but they need to work on quality of life issues, inventory management and more enemy variety among other things.

It's like the devs' idea of making travel fun was to have combat happen to you a lot. But if that's all it takes, then old-school JRPGs with random combat every two steps had fantastically fun travel. And that's just absurd.

I couldn't enjoy the first game mostly because of how companions worked, just created pawns, no personalities, no personal quests, no interactions to each other. Just lazy design, can you imagine playing Baldur's Gate with companions like that? Not going anywhere near the sequel with all its added flaws

After 10 hours EXTREME fatigue set in. Boring/generic "party" members for sake of "social pawn mechanics", poorly optimized, not much loot, boring exploration, trash-mob encounter spam. This game was a lot of fun for those first 5-7 hours though, just not worth full price.

That’s it. It’s beyond ridiculous how good this game could’ve been. 99.99% of chests are just useless shit. I’m currently leveling thief. I’m level 40ish and pretty much full cleared the entire Vernworth map(north area above Battahl) and the strongest daggers I have, can you guess where I got them ? Way back at level 13 from the seekers tokens. I have several pairs but they are all weaker than these snake head daggers. I think there were 3-4 chests that were worth going after. Mostly wakestones or ferrystones being the best loot. This game could’ve been so fucking epic instead it’s just another rpg that will never be anything other than mediocre

Dumbos should understand that we don't want microtransactions at all, not because we don't wanna pay money, but because just the simple decision of having microtransactions DIRECTLY affects your game design. Devs WILL build the game in a way that will incentivize you to spend money, and it just ends up ruining the experience just like it did with DD2.

All this well thought-out critique of the game is overshadowed by yet another reviewer who can't resist to cry "Microtransactions!", "Microtransactions!" as if they were the core problem of the game. On a sidenote: Capcom, Square Enix, Bandai Namco, all those JRPG developers have dozens of DLCs for each of their singleplayer games: cosmetics, items etc. No one, I repeat: no one, complained about the DLCs for the Resident Evil 4 remake. None of the DLCs are necessary, they are basically cheats, and if you wanna pay money for cheats, well it's your prerogative.

it's more a remaster DD1 this game for me and came 6 years too late. I have the impression that they released this game just to satisfy the DD1 fans and were tired of seeing this same demand every year, when will the sequel come? So they made a rushed game. I played a lot with DD1 (over 200h), this game has this "Déjà Vue" feeling. Now for the graphics, ok it's better as the DD1 but if i compare with Horizon Forbidden West (on PC), sorry it's a ok. For the "open world" i prefer Horizon Forbidden West any way. I had a choice for buying DD1.5 or Horizon Forbidden West on PC, my choice was easy... Horizon Forbidden West is much better in many domaine and the optimization is stunning. Maybe i buy DD1.5 in 2 years on GoG if they fixed all this problems on huge sale ^^. Great review

Except for having fewer skills (both available and enabled), only a single weapon equipped, a stripped down inclination system, clunkier movement due to fewer mobility skills, worse inventory management ... Ugh. I wish they _had_ just done a remaster of DDDA.

@@Macheako I agree, I am just starting to think it is even dodgier/harder now than it ever was. I see reviews and gameplay for games that look terrible (Starfield for instance) and the comments section is full of people raving about it. Other games like the 'new and improved, but absurdly named' Lords of the Fallen looks like it should be worthwhile, but a lot of people say it is trash, when maybe they are trash 🤔 or maybe both the game and the commenters are trash 🤨 I put games in my steam wishlist, wait for them to go on sale and then check out a couple of reviews/some gameplay, and then often just remove them, instead of buying them. So they looked good enough to me once, but looking again they don't? Maybe I am just trash 🤐

This game honestly feels like Capcom just said "Eh, give the B team a project to keep them busy, while resurrecting one of our cult IPs and capitalising on the nostalgia". Which is fine. The triple A price tag and MTX? Not so much. This is not a AAA game, it is a mid tier janky game which is fun, but should not have been priced like a Resident Evil title.

While i totally agree that people obsessively defend their purchases, i do disagree with a lot of your takes here. But thats how opinions work. Im at 70 hours and have 7 vocations maxed out. Im enjoying everything about the game, with obvious exceptions. But on the whole i think the games all i wanted from a sequel. I wish they nailed every aspect, and they definitely did not. But they definitely iterated over the first in many positive ways. Places they dropped the ball are things like inventory Management, the removal of pawn review statements (choosing a message to send), the lack of many enemies from DDDA, lack of difficulty, some mediocre quest design, and whoever decided the most expensive houses would have no tangible benefits is a moron. Performance also stinks, and why are there so many stealth missions? The disguise mechanics do not even make sense, and people arbitrarily get aggro and attack me.

Wanted to mention - please check out Unicorn Overlord. Its a phenomenal strategy RPG. I am not a huge RPG player but I have been absolutely addicted to it. The game was in development hell and apparently the president of the company had to pay to finish it himself. A lot of love and attention to detail went into it and it makes me really sad that the game isnt getting the coverage it deserves.

I finished it yesterday... the half cook boring story is unforgivable. The quest are infuriating, everything to make you lose your time and makes the SHORT games looks longer. It's just fillers. I'll never buy a game again from Crapcom. Lazy unambitious devs! The map.. 40% water, 40% inaccessible mountain, 10% circular hallways, 9% deadend 1% shit loot. What a scam. they called this an ''Open world'' ? Hahahahaha. Combats are easy as shit, the game plays by itself, you gotta be really bad to die in this game. You can pause to heal!!!!! Games are designed for casuals first, not for experienced players. So us, experienced player can finish this game blindfold with a finger in the nose. Low armor choices, low weapon choices, no transmogs, can't even change the armor's basics colors. Horrible performancem Is this 2006? I expect more from games in 2024, a lot more than this lazy shit. Full price game? NEVER EVER again. Video games is just a business based on hypes, they don't need to make a good game to sell it, they just need to hype it good and fuck us after.
