You've also proved a theory ive had since junior high school: Heavy Metal has plenty of great songwriting, impeccable chord changes, emotive vocals & lyrics, and technical mastery of their chosen instrument. At school, circa 1994-1997 I repeatedly submitted maiden, Pantera, sabbath and machinehead lyrics for English homework if we had to write poems. Always got high marks. Luckily I was the only rocker in the class.
As a life-long Maiden fan, but a beginner guitar player, I was always scared of trying to learn their songs. But your beautiful arrangement and calm teaching style makes this timeless classic look easy. A big thank you, and keep up the good work!

Stuart, You Weasted Years version is one of my best music for relaxing these days. Just today got the feeling, that I will learn it to play, in the last months I concentrated to electric guitar, this song will be perfect to push me back a bit to the acoustic "world". It inspired me to do the things that i sometimes take for granted, like spending time with the family and friends who could be gone forever in the blink of an eye. I really like this tutorial. I feel really confident in the intro, but I’m still trying to figure out the hybrid picking for the rest of the song. I don’t suppose you would make a supplemental video showing the finger picking for the body of the song. It’s really beautiful btw.

i like how that riff at the beginning really abolish in to the EMinor this song reminds me of Rory gallagher tattood lady backwards he plays EM C Dminor. I can understand where Iron maiden got their influences from and also Thin Lizzy Emerald Massacre. Rory gallagher plays the D open riffing kind of same but bit more lower down without hitting the high E string. Thanks for the lesson. Also the G part reminds me of Im a loner by kansas.

@@stuartclifford8795 Your videos are fantastic buddy, Wasted Years was the first one i stumbled upon. I was very much into Iron Maiden as a teenager back in the 90's. I do play a bit, i'm a drummer more than a guitarist but although i've done a bit of busking in the past my singing voice isn't something i would want to unleash on the world. I was in a band a few years ago and i used to do a fait bit of recording and production work for people, hence the home studio. I still do a bit and a bit of video production but it's more of a hobby than anything else. I do have a 16 track setup though and occasionally create drum tracks or add strings etc to guitar or vocal tracks for people or autotune their vocals. I have a portable 16 track DAW as well for recording bands live. Gimme a shout if you ever want anything adding to any of your recordings, it would be a pleasure to assist 🙂
@@AndyMcGeever wow thanks. I was In a band back in the 60's and I did a bit of gigging in the 80's, but now I just love to learn new songs. My son told me to start a YT channel during lockdown because I was learning new stuff with no-one listening. No-one is more surprised than me at the number of people listening and commenting, and I love it. Both musically and chatting to friends like yourself. So for me it's very simple, I just pick up my guitar and play. To coin a phrase it makes an old man very happy. 🙂 Thanks for listening my friend 🙂🎸

I enjoy production and learning production as much as playing and they are both fields that we are never done learning in. If you ever wanted to put an album together and i can help let me know. Music is about sharing enjoyment and like most things is only ever tainted when you involve money.

I suppose I'm lucky as I'm retired and financially comfortable. Also I'm sure it would involve a degree of admin. I spent 45 years as an accountant so the last thing I need is admin 🤣. I've been listening to Iron Maiden most of my life, and this might be my favorite song of theirs. Your cover is one of the best I've ever heard. Very helpful tutorial for those who would like to try it themselves. Amazing job!
