I live in Kansas, and on the highway between my hometown and my college town there is a truck junkyard. Every time we pass it, I think "Wow, I really want to get one of those livestock trailers and kit it out for Wasteland Weekend". I won't be able to go this year, but here's to hoping I can do it next year!

It's all pack it in pack it out. People bring about 2 gallons of water per person per day (one for drinking, one for cleaning, etc) and lots of solar and gennys for power.

Sure. Consider rip and repair rather than just putting holes in things. Makes it look like you've had to learn to save what little you have. Also think about functional survivability. Work a water container into the concept, where do you carry weapons of you do. Lastly, think about the character and where he/she comes from. City, desert, forest? All would have different details.
