The prime minister faced the Commons for the first time since her chancellor’s mini-budget was blamed for unleashing commotion in the markets and sending the pound into freefall.
Ms Truss was forced to defend the credibility of her economic plan, which is focused on borrowing money to fund growth-boosting measures - a vision now overshadowed by Kwasi Kwarteng’s U-turn over plans to scrap the top rate of tax.

A 5% pay offer when inflation is over twice as much and continuing to spiral. I haven't heard of anything as apalling as this before. The only message we are getting from the tories during this cost of living crisis is "tighen your belts" unless you are a multi millilonaire or a billionaire. Shouldn't they also be tighening their belts too if the reat of us are obviously having to do so right now than continue to go around as though the coat of living crisis doesn't affect them at all?

I grew up in Bradford Liz and the poverty and what ppl will do for money is genuinely shocking, saddening and tragic. Tax breaks for corps and billionaires won't help. I think everyone should contribute to a better society and should also give their TIME and EXPERTISE for mentoring and training. Words are empty when u give no money or time to the electorate and none of them do. Why not start by sharing ur experiences and training to young students? Is it because, perhaps, u gained privilege through inheritance and didn't actually learn anything or gain any practical skills through ur elite education?!

I worked with disabled students for 5 years and it was tough work but i matured and felt privileged. I was stabbed as a teen and my mum wasn't around because she was renting, working, raising two sons and studying to improve our prospects. She should be there and when they say they understand, it's just words. Now i am a Cambridge University employee and I've contributed a lot to my employers and my community
