This was all I needed to decide to buy the 300x. Thank you! James you should participate in the Amazon Affiliates and place a link to buy these in your description, you get a profit from sales. You're working hard and your videos are great! - Mike

outstanding presentation. I love seeing the actual reading results on screen. side question - i know you demonstrated the 300x at separate temps... however, i think you can select ANY temp btwn 3000 and 10,000 - is this correct? If so, a 300x reading at 5600k would have been nice to see since the 300dII was metered at 5600k. That would have been a great apples to apples comparison. (Of course, if you can't step adjust the CT on the 300X, that's significant information on it's own. thanks (can you ship me some Tiger Balm? i need it for my knees :) )

Happy to help! I recommend anything with RGBACL, but hey, lights are expensive -- use what you can afford.

Got the 300X and in my work the bicolor trumps the power of the 300D. Loving this light!

@kipling1957
@kipling1957 Год назад
@@kalebmartinsonproductions1690 For me at least, glad I got the 300X. I prefer the flexibility of changing the color temperature to match the ambient. Most of my stuff about is motivating available light on location. I have 3 cheaper 10" daylight panels if I'm controlling everything in studio. I've not missed having more power. Rarely am I up to 100%, and that occasion it was as fill-in for bright daylight. Most projects power is somwhere between 30-70% with a Canon C100 MkII, sometimes pushed to ISO 3200. The sensor is fairly low noise. I hope this helps.

curious to know how the upcoming LS 60x will compare. And i dont get why they cant simply just adjust the numbers to make it correct. If the readings is 100 K off, change that number by 100

at 1:45 in the video, when you were mentioning that for a cheaper version of the 300X when you were talking about cutting the light and getting multiple shadow pattern and how it looks very unnatural, is this with the 300D II? Please respond

56k on the X is not to be shot at usually - for day you'd use 38 to 52k depending on the situation

Thanks for the really useful review, great job. One thing though, isn’t a 200 degree difference very different at 5600 to what it is at 3200? Just something I think I remember from somewhere and something I’m pretty sure I’ve seen on set.
@Powersfilms
@Powersfilms 4 года назад
Hey Mark, regarding the 200 degree difference, it’s all relative to what your other lights are reading and mainly what you have your camera set to. In a perfect world, if you set the 300X to 5600, you would read 5,600K on your meter. I was kind of pissed to discover my 300Dll that is rated for 5,500K measures 5,250 - but now I know.
@Markybx
@Markybx 4 года назад
James Powers yeah, I know. But that’s not what I was saying. I was saying that if I’m right you should worry less about a discrepancy at 5600 than a discrepancy at 3200. But yes, of course it’s really important to know what Colour temp it’s giving at different settings. Thanks.
@Powersfilms
@Powersfilms 4 года назад
@@Markybx Ah, I see what you mean. Yes, I suppose a shift from Tungsten, could be more noticeable as tungsten is more constant than daylight (Daylight balance can shift depending on the time of day). I still believe that shifting color by 200 degrees is still relative, but in the big picture, lights should be accurate and if they aren't, you should know what they are off by so you can correct it in post. I did forget to mention, that if the 300X registered a true 6,500K, that would be awesome because you can get some creative looks. I suppose you could always gel it if you really wanted to get creative.
@RichardCepeda
@RichardCepeda 4 года назад
Thanks for this video, I’m weighing these options right now. Do you know if the 300x at full tungsten has a higher output than the 120d Mark II at max output?
@Powersfilms
@Powersfilms 4 года назад
Hey! The 300X in any mode will have significantly more light output compared to the 120D, mainly because of how many watts (300W) the 300X can deliver to the LED chips. But those 120s are also great accent lights and are pretty powerful since the 120D’s beam is more spotted.
@tekoppentekoppen761

hmm, so the 300d with gels are pretty much like a 300x but stronger?

Maybe what you used to measure the light is off? Other reviewers tested with a sekonic light meter and they show that the 300X is dead accurate at nearly every color temperature
@Powersfilms
@Powersfilms 3 года назад
Hey Steven, to make sure I'm getting accurate readings, I preform a "dark calibration" on the Sekonic and I also test the CCT of a tungsten bulb with clear glass, so I know my Sekonic meter can be trusted. Can you share a link to those other review videos that talk about the CCT Accuracy of the 300X (some of them are paid, or get to keep the 300X, so sometimes they will fudge some of the readings). The Aputure 300X is an excellent light, but it is unlikely each unit is dead accurate, mainly because of quality control issues. It would be impossible for every head unit to consistently hit their target CCT values without any color or CCT shifting (and this is such an interesting and deep topic). I'm in the middle of filming a new video that dives deep into the challenges of making a bi-color light, and the advantages of filming with an RGB light, since you can correct for Green & Magenta shifts. I really wish I touched on tint in the 300X Review, but I already felt the video was too long. Thanks for watching!

@@Powersfilms thanks for the reply! And hmm that's interesting, I'll go ahead and link the video below. I'm aware many reviewers are paid but I'm referring to Caleb pikes video (dale video shooter) I'll link it below. Let me know your thoughts, maybe I understood the concept wrong. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6MOQGTD0zJs.html

@@stevenuseda6317 I'm a huge fan of Caleb Pike! His work is pretty solid. At the 7 minute mark of your link, he does show that his readings were accurate, but he also mentioned Aputure sent him the 300X unit. Something tells me that Aputure is going to send Caleb their best, quality-controlled 300X unit, and that explains why his results were ideal. Also, because of the sheer nature of how bi-color leds work, I am very skeptical about how accurate Caleb's CCT readings are at 4,300K (mixed). Again, I'm crafting a new video that digs deep into the nature of Bi-Color LEDS Vs. RGB LED units. My 300X unit was purchased through B&H and regards to quality, it is pretty good, but not great. I've definitely witnessed some 300X units that have an awful green cast and other units that were sent back to Aputure for replacement. Luckily Aputure is friendly enough to replace malfunctioning units at no extra cost. In either case, it is important to know what your light is doing, so you can correct for it either on set or in post. Thanks for those links!
