I also have the xr18 mixer and use the xvive in ears. My band had the exact same problem on our first gig using the u4 units. There is a super simple easy fix to this and once you do it you will never have an issue with the Ipad disconneting and the iem cutting out. (Assuming you have a good speed external router) Just run an xlr cable to each member from the aux bus just like you would for a floor monitor and plug in the trasmiter to the cable near where the musician is standing. The U4 just cant be near the router the as long as the transmiters are 5ft+ away from the router, everything works perfect...
Don't plug it directly to the mixer.... run a cable from the mixer to where you are standing on stage and plug the unit in there. Keep it away from the router.
@myguitarcloud5987 The closer you are to it, the better, less chance for a dropout. Keep in line of sight. With these cheap iem systems, a road case can block the signal if it's between you and the transmitter
Thank you - I was hours away from chucking the XVIVE IEM for my whole band and dropping big bucks on a high end unit until I found this. I can't recommend these changes enough. Our wifi router that runs our mixing remote and allows us to control our own in an app on our phone, as interfering. Not only did the app not work, the IEM systems wouldn't not work because of the interference. Not only did we lock it to channel 11 - we disabled 2.4 and only run 5.2 on the router. Each band member also runs an XLR from the snake to their area on the stage - and now it works beautifully! Thanks again.
Thank you for the video. But the mixer in the “first gig demo” was a soundcraft Ui series mixer. And if you’re using an external router, make sure it’s a dual band running on 5.0Ghz
Agreed! There should be far less clutter with 5 GHz Wi-Fi. That will eventually change as more devices get on board with that frequency but for the time being, it seems to be a no-brainer especially if you're going to try to use these Xvive's at 2.4GHz.
Quick note: You ALWAYS have to worry about wifi/2.4gHz being a problem, even if your mixer is old-school. So many devices have shifted to that band, even TV remotes, that it may still be an issue. But glad to hear your initial problems were IT/networking related and the device otherwise works well for you!
Hey Perf.... As you know I'm older ... and technology comes slowly (yet surely) to us curmugins .... I bought the guitar XVIVE for guitar after watching your video on it... and true to your word (so thank you).... no glitches... love it .... the cord tripping/dance is OVER !. here's hoping that you are continually blessed !..
Great review, the best real world review on YT! We had the same issue with the Ui24 mixer and the xVive guitar set, we found plugging it in using an extension cable metres away from the digital mixer eliminated the blocking
Thanks, mang! Yes, an extension cable is a must to move away from interference, we do that now for our bass player's U4 so the transmitter stays close to him.
The interference issue with 2.4ghz is the biggest issue. I actually had issues with the U2 when using my ipad for personal monitor mixing. Your solution is really interesting
Very insightful, and probably the most correct and honest review out there. Not to say that sponsored videos cannot be impartial, but you raise a number of concerns that I have personally experienced with the U3 model, that most reviewers don't tackle (probably due to the very controlled - and therefore somewhat uprepresentative - studio demo tests). Since my bands mixer is on a NowSonic 5 GigaHertz-router and most of my band mates are on a UH radiofrequency-IEM-system, I think this can be a viable option for me. But I had to sell the Xvive U3 + Behringer P-2 combination because it ran into too many drop-out issues, so caution is indeed recommendable when purchasing this IEM-set. That being said, you have convinced me to rethink my current setup. Great video, great review!
Thank you for the honest review. Had endless problems with my XVive guitar wireless which I ended up swapping for the Boss equivalent, don’t think I’ll be touching the U4.
With a digital mixer like a Behringer xr18 you should definitely use a dual band router and stick to the 5Ghz band. This not only should solve any issue with the XVive (I presume it works in the 2.4Ghz band) but with a lot of other devices. The 2.4ghz band is too crowded and the most of cell phones use this band and are continuously broadcasting for available wifi networks. Even if your XR18 wifi is password protected this broadcast can saturate a channel and prevent your tablet to connect to the XR18.
I noticed… I bought the Xvive U4 and the Xvive wireless mic adapter / reciever duo… And I noticed when I used them together, the in ear box interfered and cut the sound out. I was plugging them both into the same small audio interface to try it out… but that’s what I needed for my rig. I’m about to return the U4 tomorrow. Also, you might note that the U4 is only in Mono… it would sound so much better in stereo! Nobody mentions this. It’s not as good as it could be! Mine sounded thin. There are some other products that are in stereo, which will make your expensive IEMS sound way better.
Getting a stereo in ears mix has more to do with your mixer setup and other hardware ( like using a P16m digital setup with a Behringer mixer). I prefer to call it pannable mono so you can move audio sources left and right "in your head."
yes Got my X vibe U4 IEM and finding it very clear audio so I dont have problems getting some hard notes while on stage! good thing I saw your vid with regarding the issues from WIFI connections from Digital Mixers. Very Helpful vid indeed! thank you MAster Lodi Perf De Castro!!! mabuhay ka!
The mixer you are using is in this video is the soundcraft probably the ui24r. You can switch this to 5ghz. As you should. I had nothing but major problems with the xvive system. Was one of the worst things I ever bought. Lots of drop-outs, snap, crackles and pops. I was an early user and hoping I got a total dud. Considering giving it another chance.
Thank you for this review! I have been looking for in-ear wireless systems and ran across these. i use the XVive wireless guitar set up as well and thought this would be a good pairing. And thank you for the tip about setting a "hard" option for the wireless mixer. We use a Mackie system at most of our gigs, so this would have been an issue we would have had to solve.
We have the exact same setup (with a wireless router). There have been no issues whatsoever with other WiFi devices. Not exactly sure what your particular issue is but I am pretty sure it might be your router config or even age (there are different and overlapping implementations of 2.4Ghz used for compatibility in routers). The channels on the U4 do not correspond to the channel lineup on 2.4GHz transmission. It is just a 1-6 U4 notation, meaning it can only do up to 6 simultaneous performers.
I ended up using a xlr cable and putting the U4 by my pedalboard. Keeps it away from the mixer. That solved the problems with interfering. I was killing a soundguys WiFi plugging it into the mixer directly. He was baffled as to why he was cut off. :)
I found this solution to be the ticket as well! I encounter issues if the transmitter is plugged directly into the monitor out of the mixer or even if I use an XLR cable but locate the transmitter too close to the mixer. But I find that if I use a 20' cable from the mixeer and locate the transmitter next to my pedal board, away from the mixer, I am golden
Yeah I’ve actually found that it works best to use a cable on stage (could be the same that goes into wedge normally) But only really played small to mid-sized venues thus far
I'm a bit late to the party here...but just a quick note on 2.4ghz wireless. Channels 1,6, and 11 are non overlapping...so if you have interference issues, try to stick to those 3 channels.
There are many channels available to your router in the 2.4 GHz carrier frequency. Go into your router admin web app and change the channel. Try multiple channels until the interference goes away. You should not need to buy a new router. Be sure to test against all six channels used by the U4.
He did that, setting the mixer router on channel 1 and the Xvive on channel 11. Didn't fix the problem. Most wifi routers today can run on 2.4 ghz or 5ghz frequency, so his actual solution was to run the mixer wifi router on 5ghz, separating it from the crowded 2.4ghz band the Xvive uses.
This is fantastic news. My worry was that it would also interfere with the audience phones trying to connect. So you’re saying that we could play at festivals and use the xvive u4 without worrying about drop outs as long as we don’t use wifi devices on stage? We connect the xvive directly into the audio interface / laptop, which is has no wifi.
Hi Sir Perf! Marami din po kasing gumagamit ng Muslady 2.4G wireless guitar system. It's cheaper at 40+USD sa amazon. Maraming salamat!
Thank you for this video!! I just ordered a xvive u4 last night, we use a berhringer air x too and these would have happened to us and now I know how to fix it. So thanks for making it!!
@@ManuelHernandez-br6dy hey, I use a berhringer P16 and I plug the xvive transmitter into the p16 so it doesn't interfere with the air x, I haven't had a chance to use it live (yet) so I hoping it will work 🤞
Thanks for the great review. I bought the U4 and with Shure in-ears the volume is too low. I am connecting to an EV 8 using mix out XLR. Any ideas as to why they won't get loud?
Hi Sir Perf! I'm an aspiring lead guitarist :)) I always watch your videos. Can you make a video for pentatonic scale? I have a little knowledge about it and I want to learn more from you:)) How can I use the pentatonic scale across the fretboard? What are major and minor PS? What are their differences and when to use them? Thanks! I'll wait for this one! More powers to you! 🎸 ☺
This was super helpful; thank you! We're using 5 individual pairs of U4s connected into our Behringer X32. So far, at rehearsal, we haven't had any issues with dropoff, but I'm wondering if we should be wary of interference with the house board at a gig?
Great review, just watched this today as looking for a wireless IEM solution that doesn't break the bank. The only thing that is a 'con' for me is that the U4 isn't stereo! Everything else seems great, especially not having to have an external power supply and multiple cables to plug into the transmitter. Also looked at the NUX B-7 PSM, which is stereo, but have seen multiple comments about the large amount of background hiss, which wouldn't be pleasant when practising at home.
What I am wondering is this. I am a solo artist, mainly acoustic. I'm older and so are my ears so I have found a in ear monitor a great help. Right now I am just hard wiring straight from the AUX out on my Allen and Heath ZED 10 FX mixer to my Shure 215's. I would love to get rid of the wires. Already got the guitar taken care of. From what I have heard here I think the U4 would be fine for my use. Just wondering about interference from cell phone, etc in the venue. Probably be a non issue but just wondering.
Great job figuring that out. I use the X5 and love it. Glad it's working for you as well. We use ableton to mix and an audio interface, so not much chance of interference except for wireless mics and guitars. So far, all good.
Perfectamente practical video; thank you for sharing your experience. Btw- if you read this, I want you to know about another video of yours that shaped my current guitar rig. Your video on the Boss SD-2, pushed me over the edge on buying one. This last Sunday, I realized I just always want to play with the crunch channel turned on. Thanks again for sharing your tales of the road. I am a benefactor.
Thank you so much, Perfecto. You are influencing and educating a lot of people. The work you put into your videos shows. I hope you are seeing a lot of blessings in return. Peace to you and your family.
That looks more like the Soundcraft UI interface than the Berringer. Not sure if you are using the UI 16 but the UI 24 has built in 5 ghz wireless so it would not interfere with your in ear monitors
Let’s say you are using these with multiple bands and having each one change their Wi-Fi settings just isn’t practical. Can you fix the Wi-Fi interference issue simply by switching the Xvive to a different channel, or does the fix only work if you change the router settings?
You are using external AP, what if you use 5G Wifi for the router control which is using another frequency? That would free the 2.4 GHz band. Not perfect but should do the trick.
Very informative and useful, real-world info for gigging musicians. Thanks for the great reviews. Just wondering if you have a follow-up after 3 years? How have these lasted? Do you still recommend them?
Since this video until the start of this year, these have been gigged pretty much every weekend. Still works and holds charge. If you can live with a mono mix, these are still hard to beat for the gigging musician
Hi Perf, thank you for this video which you provided a do and dont explanation. I have a question, when the mixer does not any wifi ipad like you have will it work without setting any specific channel? What if there are iphones with wireless data or in-house wifi inside the venue, will this be an issue you think. Thanks and always a fan and student of yours here.
Just got my xvive that i order from your link sweetwater..just wanna make sure you got your commission from them ..lol ..thnx for the informative review..mabuhay ka,!,
I have the Vive and love it. I’m using an analog mixer but I wonder if the transmitter was moved away from a digital mixer/iPad via a long XLR would that solve the interference issue? I’m most admittedly tech-UN savvy so I’m probably way off but even a blind squirrel gets a nut once in a while.
Excellent video thanks for taking the time to make it and thanks for the advice. This would have been very frustrating because we also use the Behringer audio mixer and we would definitely have had the same issues.
Might be a stupid question, but i am a drummer that has a pad. Do you think I will be able to plug it in to my pad to remove the problem of interference?
Thanks for the video. I am thinking of buying a pair of these and I also use an Xair, cheers for the heads up. One question, are they mono or does the sound come through both ears? A previous video said it only came through the one
I currently have ours hooked up into our x32. After watching the video and reading the comments do you think running 3 XLR from the x32 to the stage will solve our dropout/interference issues? Currently our stage is about 50ft from our x32. So running about 100ft xlr per transmitter to the stage and each transmitter separated by approximately 5 to 6 feet on separate channels should be good. Each receiver would be about 3 feet from transmitter. Hopefully it works. Novice sound engineer😂!!…..our WiFi router is less than 5ft from the x32😂
Same thing happend to me but with my wireless dmx controller, the band that I was running sound for had the same wireless in ear system, I was thinking of ordering the 4pack system but not sure if I should
The U4 worked great for me until after about 14 months when the transmitter and receiver would not lock on to one another. I've tried it in a number of different environment and it just stopped working. I fully discharged and recharged the batteries but nothing works. All the manufacturers will do is offer me a discount on a new one. I now have no confidence in this product.
Thanks for this review! Just curious, have you tried it in a packed venue yet? I'm worried about trying to use this in a room full of cell phones and any interference this may cause with the U4 in terms of clicks and dropouts. Still too scared to try this live... Thanks!
Great review, interesting to note that nobody has mentioned if the receiver has a built in limiter just in case the audio engineer adjusts the wrong send and shoots a hot signal straight into the U4 users ears. Not a huge issue for people using digital mixers, a limiter can be put over the auxiliary channel in the mixer, not so good for people still using analogue mixers though. Also, you mentioned that you used the Behringer digital mixer yet that was the Soundcraft UI software when you showed the iPad with the drop out issue so its not just the Behringer that has that issue. Thanks for putting the review together
Great video, thank you! Bought a set, I just used it in Church and had that cut out issue you are talking about. So where do I adjust the WIFI? Do I need to ask the sound engineer to change their whole wifi set up? They use a digital mixer with the tablets to mix, so I think it is what everyone is talking about. Can someone help me please?
Ok you sound guy is not using Behringer. He’s using the sound craft UI. I had the same issue with the soundcraft and a 2.4ghz line6 guitar rig. You can easily pick a different frequency in the settings on the soundcraft but why introduce variable? So I agree with you stay away from any device in the 2.4ghz range unless you want to troubleshoot and shake up your confidence in your equipment. FYI if you must do this with the soundcraft you can also hardwire the board with a cat5 to your laptop as a failsafe if WiFi goes down. But like I said this is too variable and WiFi is everywhere. We’re doing live streaming too and it’s just not worth the risk.
Perfecto De Castro they probably work very similarly at least in regards to the frequency they use. I’m a big fan of the UI 24r though built in effects 8 aux’s and you can dasey chain two together for 48 Chanel’s. And 10 users can connect from ANY Mobil device for controlling their own mix. If you had 3 bands all using the system in one night you would have a channel for everyone and a monitor mix for everyone. Anyhow thanks for your insights on the in ear. I just ordered a galaxy 940 instead today. I’ve got a budget but don’t want a new problem.
I was gonna say. That is a soundcraft. That's a good idea about using the 5g band. I have had trouble in the past with my guitar wireless interfering with the SC connection.
Few things to consider. A) that was not an iPad. B) The signal was already having issues prior to you turning on the device (clearly expressed by the exclamation point on the icon.) For a inexpensive IEM it does have some trade offs however it is important that you iron out these details before you feed your viewers misinformation.
Very informative and glad I watched this. Question - if you have a digital mixer with its own Wifi network, do you still potentially have this issue? I have been looking for information, but cannot seem to find it. We have a Mackie DL16S. I am not sure that I can connect to the internal wifi/router to change it's channel.
I also use the XR18 but the built in router is booboo. So I use a 5ghz external router to run my tablet and phones. This should bypass the problem you were having right? Just weighing my options before I buy lol
I have a Bose L1, simple system. I am a solo act, but sometimes in bar settings I have trouble hearing myself. Using the xvive u4 would I have any drop out issues with the bars wifi or people on their cell phone? I really like this system, but don't want to waste my time if I don't have to. Thanks
@@dacomomomusic2801 Is the sound quality decent? What types of venues? Rural or in large cities? Thanks for your info. It’s pretty pricey if I buy a bunch of them and nice earbuds
@@ewkinser we do a lot of smaller venues, but we’ve used them inside and outside and the quality is actually better than most of the units I also have, such as the PSM200 and PSM300, now we usually run one or two mixes, so i don’t know how much more it’ll drop by having more monitor mixes, if at all, but I would absolutely recommend it if you’re on a budget
Thanks for the great video and tips, definitely helped me get some initial issues hammered out.... I was just curious if anyone here has had any problem with connectivity between the TX and RX... The U4 worked great for 3 or 4 gigs and now the green light doesn't come on, on the Rx, meaning the units aren't paired anymore.... Anyone have a fix to get them paired back up? I sent an email to Xvive support with no response as of yet...
I just started to have the same issue with mines. I can make the transmitter and the receiver get connected if both are like 40 centimeters or less. As soon as the distance gets more than that, they lose connection. So frustrating because I really like this gear.
