Hope everyone found the video helpful :D I’d love for any other med students, residents or staff physicians who come across this video to leave your own tips in the comments below too! It’ll go a long way towards helping out some future students 🔥

I remember you're practicing suture from your old videos. It will be helpful if you do a series on suturing techniques, the way you explain things make it easy for us to learn it

Sounds like a great idea 🤙 I’ll put together a list of some useful ones after I get a little more practice :D

Hey! I applied to ryerson Biomed long before I ever discovered your channel. As every premed I am cautiously yet not optimistically waiting on Mac Health Sci (which has been my number one choice for years). That being said and assuming I don’t get in, I have an offer for both rye Biomed and western med sci. For economic reasons I really want to stay home at go to ryerson, but I am aware of the differences in med school matriculation between the programs. I am well aware that undergrad doesn’t matter but I do believe that the opportunities in research at western are beneficial to an applicant. I was just wondering if you would could let me know things you wish you knew about rye Biomed (how to find research opportunities, ‘grizzly bear classes” etc), it would be much appreciated😎

Hey Adrian :) Good luck with waiting to hear back from your number 1 choice! It sounds like you've seen at least a few of my videos, I'm assuming that you know that I'm a big fan or Ryerson. Having said that, I've heard very good things about Western's program as well - but also some not so good things. Every program has people telling you that "it's the best" and then others who say its terrible, so at some point, you just need to decide and then make the most out of wherever you are 🔥 I think a lot of my friends here in med school would have been accepted no matter which program they went to for undergrad because they're very strong students. If you have any reservations or doubts about a program though, then maybe you should just choose the more "prestigious program" so that you don't doubt your decision or have regrets later on. But personally, I wouldn't have chosen a different undergrad university even if I could go back and do it again :) I've talked about grizzly bear courses pretty extensively in this video here if you're interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-65yTIB76Frs.html A lot of those tips were learned from my time at Ryerson!

@@adriansejdijaj7847 Or maybe 8 years if you work hard and their medical school opens up in time 😎 (Ryerson announced that they're in the process of applying for their own medical school, in case you hadn't heard.) Would love to see that happen! Best of luck buddy :D

Do you have any advice on How to stop comparing yourself to others? Because I’m struggling so much with that that it’s often keeping me up so late at night because my anxiety would spike up.
@nxtgenmd
@nxtgenmd 3 года назад
Imposter syndrome (comparing yourself to others and not feeling like you're good enough) is something that we used to talk about a lot in the first year of medical school, but truthfully, it never really goes away. The weird part is that the majority of people compare themselves to others so really, the self-doubt is extremely misplaced :D give yourself small goals that accumulate over time and accomplish the things that you want to do. as per not sleeping because of anxiety, I found that "white noise" playlists on RU-vid would really help me back when MCAT anxiety would keep me up 🤙

Hey, I can't remember if I made a follow up comment. But a few videos ago I had left feedback about the volume of music vs your vlogs and I can see/hear that there's been a change in all your recent vids. Just wanted to say it's very comfortable now. Thanks for being so receptive and responsive to feedback! Good ol' MacMed feedback at work :P haha Thanks for all your tips too, can't wait to apply them when I start clerkship. Your vids are a great resource.

LOL also since you mentioned music toward the end... I gotta know, what's the safest bet when the surgeon asks you what music to play?
@nxtgenmd
@nxtgenmd 3 года назад
LOL true story - "Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood was a favourite of my orthopaedic surgery preceptor when we were prepping 😆 Beyond that, listen to what they play and try to match the tone. I feel like 80's is a good bet if your preceptor is 40+ y.o 🔥

Do surgeons allow first year neurosurgery residents to assist in surgery sometimes?
@nxtgenmd
@nxtgenmd 3 года назад
Residents are often heavily involved in surgeries, however not all hospitals will have residents that rotate through. From my understanding, 1st year residents are heavily supervised during surgeries in most cases, but many upper year residents will perform the majority of the procedure as the lead 🤙
