How dare you. THAT is classic British absurdist comedy in the vein of PG Wodehouse, Spike Milligan, Terry Gilliam, Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett! Seinfeldian... I feel I must go and put the kettle on before I do or say something we'll all regret.
@@lassebendixen7246 Well, quite. Doesn't do to let the side down by erupting into a blood-soaked ultraviolent rampage across Time and Space, don'tchaknow?
@@anneroy4560I have only ever brought salted butter (spreadable is best, otherwise the bread gets completely mullered unless you take normal butter out of the fridge well in advance) We use it whether it's jam on toast or bacon butties (sandwiches), also mustn't forget chip butties as well. Happily I'm the only person in our house who likes marmite!! No need to share!!!
To the classier elements of british society, that IS what an epic rant is. Measured, well-reasoned, articulate, and with a touch of understated absurdism.
I had a hassle at USA airport security with Marmite when they would not believe it was not a meat product.Fortunately, it is now available in grocery stores in my area in The Woodlands Texas. Yorkshire teabags too.
We’re Canadian and we buy Marmite at the SuperStore here! I made sure to stock up on it during Covid. We got to know about it via British friends who turned our family on to it. Our children loved it growing up as well! Mind you, my husband’s Dad was Welsh and his Mum was from Newfoundland so perhaps that explains it!
My parents were from the UK and I grew up in Canada, being fed Marmite. I then gave it to my own children. It is readily available in the area where I live. It was our peanut butter. You need very little, just a smear on bread. A jar lasts a long time.
HA HA I LOVE Bill Nighy...the man is a legend!! :D :D You couldn't fail to be entertained in his company!! :D And I'm with him - I love marmite!!! :D :D
Me too ! I've been stopped UK side and had Marmite confiscated .. I've been interrogated in the past USA side over Marmite , and it's almost impossible to explain to Homelamd Security what Marmite is , and why it comes in a jar the shape of a bomb ! I think they understand now with so many Brits entering America with not only Marmite and Yorkshire tea , but also Digestive biscuits , Olde English Marmalade , Blackcurrant jam and Ribena !!
@@abcdefgold I never had Marmite until I was an adult, stuck on Embassy duty in London, and bored enough to try anything. I couldn’t imagine eating toast without it ever since.
'Marmite's reputation'? Given it's either 'you love it or you hate it', I think it's fair to say there's a LOT of people who can't live without it!. Bill is right, you usually have to be born into it....most Americans, for example, just don't 'get it'.
Good one Mr Nighy. I am Australian, but I was raised on Marmite (although I think it was the NZ Marmite) I came to Vegemite much later. I am happy with either.
Never tried smuggling marmite as demand was low but I've been busted for kinder eggs and cheese going into the USA before. They take it very seriously. Men in rubber gloves take you off to a dark room and go through your entire suitcase and then leave you to repack it afterwards.
I know Marmite from childhood vacations in Ireland. I think I‘ll try it again. If I like it as much as Bill does, I might need to do some smuggling too.
With him every step of the way. Lived in a number of different countries (other than Blighty) over the past decade, Marmite & Yorkshire Tea went where I went, without exception. Didn't know that about Canada though, that's hilarious!
I watched this while eating Marmite, and looked down at the jar and went "Is Bill Nighy watching me or some shit." I looked out the windows to make sure. My sister walked behind me and screamed scaring the living shit out of me, she said "I GOT UNDERWORLD LETS GO WATCH IT!!!" after calming myself I go "Goddamn it Bill!"... I love Bill Nighy, but after I watch something with him in it he shows up everywhere.
I have to say I’ve been stopped and ridiculed at British security for bringing in a jar of Vegemite, bought at Duty Free complete with security clearance. That didn’t stop them holding me up for a good half hour, forcing me to race for my plane to France!
Fell in love with Marmite this year. It is an addictive simple English breakfast to me. Marmite on toast is the bomb, and it is even good as a hot drink. Turns out it has a lot of health benefits, and is good for the eyes. Yorkshire tea is better than PG Tips too. Tried it today. Makes PG Tips taste average.
You want to try marmite on toast then add baked beans cover with grated cheese and back under the grill until the cheese melts. Top breakfast or lunch that is.
Marmite has become expensive in Italy where I live(brexit) I thought sod it I am not paying its a rip off, but I feel terrible I am having cold turkey , I have been eating marmite since I was a small child , sent for some from Amazon, sod the cost coming tomorrow
For the folks out there who don't know, Marmite is one of the few products that has actually spawned a popular phrase. If someone or something is considered "Like Marmite" it means you love it or hate it. No middle ground. People who eat Marmite do not just sort of like it, they love it. People who do not like it, do not just dislike it, they hate it..
Love Marmite. Our little boy neighbor in Egypt, ages ago used to come known at our door with a piece of bread to have us slap some Marmite on his bread.
I think my all time favourite character of his was Sam Gamgee - Lord of the Rings (BBD Radio). I've watched him for years as if I were expecting him to explode at any moment, I've got to know what he's going to say next :)
I got into eating Vegemite when I was in Japan. They have it there probably because there are lots of Australians in Japan. Vegemite was a lot cheaper than Marmite but basically the same thing, yeast extract. Unfortunately, I can only find Marmite here in LA and it’s about $10 for a small jar so I usually pass up buying it.
The publicist in the background can't hear anything more about Marmite, and probably has heard Bill advocating it several times. She's like: “Get oooon with it!” from the first moment of this clip. 😇
Totally agree. Vegimite is actually better. My Aussie mates certainly prefer it over marmite. Though if they can’t get Vegemite, they are grateful for marmite!😄 But my total favourite is bovril. Two reasons, firstly and mainly it makes the most delicious drink that the others can’t do and is really beefy which I prefer to just salty. So it has a more umami flavour, I think. But mostly because it’s actually incredibly good at healing irritable gut. It contains the proteins your gut lining needs that are in bone stock that help to repair leaky gut that results from gluten intolerance which I get.. so it goes really well with a gut friendly diet.
_Some people like Marmalade exclusively,_ _while myself, I say there is naught, nor ought there be,_ _nothing so exalted on the face of God's grey Earth,_ _as that prince of foods... _*_THE MARMITE!_*
Absolutely agree with the man I cannot do without my marmite. Being in the US obtaining marmite is a bit difficult thankfully now it’s on Amazon. Like Bill I always have two jars waiting in reserve just in case.
I moved to Sweden (im a swede) after living in the UK and became addicted to marmite. Today i found a shop in sweden that sells it and i’m beyond happy.
Happy B-day Bill Nighy. UR amazing legend. I loved Underworld Rise of the Lycans, 1, and 2 Evolution. I watch all of them. Underworld is awesome and romantic...! Underworld remind me of Resident Evil. Its complicated. Shaun of the Dead is great. Zombie movies r awesome. Pokemon Detective Pikachu is super awesome, I love Pokemon, I seen Pokemon, long time ago. Shows and movies. All of them. And Flushed Away is incredible. Seriously! UR great. May the Peace be with u Bill Nighy. From Harlingen Texas. Obviously this is for laughs and not true. I live in Canada and Marmite is readily available in some grocery stores and some deli type stores here. The price is comparable to what one would pay in the UK.
