No building collapse is UNAVOIDABLE. There are building codes, engineering codes which states the minimum strength of materials to be used in construction. The structural engineer/civil engineer should be arrested if they even employed any

Going through a fight right now when my neighbors decided to building the supporting wall of their building on top of my fence surrounding the compound of my bungalow in Badagry. We have had to reinforce a large part of the fence which had collapsed due to severe water lodge and this was when it was discovered that my neighbors had decided to build a massive thick supporting walls on a large section of my fence even though it is clear that the bottom fence is much weaker than the load it is now carrying! If I do not have the supporting wall demolished, there is a possibility that the entire construction will collapse one day and if this should happen, it could lead to the loss of lives! There are children in the bungalow and the neighbors that did this also use their yet to be completed building as a school! The sad thing is, they are resentful that they have been caught and the authority is now involved. They are also saying that God is on their side etc. I am having the demolition done entirely at my own expense because I simply cannot risk hurting innocent lives. What has Nigeria become when we find it so difficult to do justice even in the simplest of situations?

We've been totally consumed by inordinate desires so much that all that matter to us as a people is money, nothing more. Blocks makers would decide to mould 100 blocks from a bag of cement which is 4 times over the expected quantity, just for excessive gain, knowing the deadly consequences but what does it matter once his pockey is enriched, lives can be lost who cares? Have you also noticed those packing sand from gutter and roadside and tippers are buying it almost everywhere now? Street sweepers are now making money through that means. This is a very dangerous trend and it has become a norm in many areas in Lagos state. Same with transporters all over the place. The most painful thing is those saddled with regulation responsibility have colluded with criminals for selfish gains

Thank God this building came down at that point in time, avoidable though. If the would-be owners had taken possession and moved in, the catastrophe would have wrecked this nation. No matter how bad we feel now, we're still better off, with this than later. May the soul of the departed rest. From the interview granted by the late Osibona, he believed nigeria is a place, where experimentation is possible. He also mentioned that he was more experienced so much that no expert could toss him round any more, I presumed due to that his so called experience in building, he took a lot of expert advice with levity. Once again we need to learn from his deadly mistakes.

It is dumb responses like that from BKO, and his sycophantic ilk, that shows the level of their reasoning, him and his asiwaju. The state of affairs in the country is due to the mentally poor and myopic thinking of his asiwajus and co and they can't help but show themselves when they speak. The country is being led by a bunch of ancient village leaders, who don't have the mental capacity to think systematically, which governance of even a local govt in the 21st century needs. Someone is being corrupt with the potential to destroy lives and then they just get dismissed. And BKolodo is making noise about something clearly inadequate and foolish which in light of an incident like this should be shameful to even mention. I guess they didn't kill anybody yet, abi? What signal does a silly consequence like that send to the other corrupt criminals in government? You see what I mean by low mental capacity and myopic thinking? Apply nonchalant and mentally poor attitude like that across the country and you start to see why the country is not going anywhere, at least not intentionally, with the kind of useless eaters that continue to pass governing power between themselves.

From the pictures and videos I have seen on the collapse block both the rebars (the steel bars) used in the construction and the masonry are below normal specification of these types of project. The grade and diameter of rebars can clearly be seen to be inadequate to what should had been applied. The form of concrete debris after collapse also showed poor judgement on concrete mix.

Its a pity...The untouchables in Nigeria is something else. I remember when synagogue church fell and scores were killed..yet they covered up everything and TB joshsua went scotch free after greasing hands and using his power and money amid allegations! nobody paid for it! A few months ago a young lady Chidinmaby name killed a man and they were petting chidinma keeping her in a place where she was taken care of bcos she is a fine woman and they believe she cannot kill bcos she is fine and she is young... and today it is obvious that Mr Usifo died in vain!, the other time killer and kidnapper Evans the kidnapper killed , kidnapped and maimed people and of cos he is free!...a country of malpractices! obviously from stories, there were shortcuts in the building construction. Hmmm imagine if families have moved into these homes...imagine the tragedy. IMagine innocent workers....etc they brought there that morning to work in a bus... RIP to the dead and meanwhile the 2 outstanding buildings should be brought down bcos obviously the standards are not meant

Corruption at its peak will always lead to destruction. who are the off takers for such high stake property. In Canada, You can not start a building project not untill you 50% sold and mortgage claims 90% 0f such stake high rise building takes18 months to design subject the site to geo technical surveu, soil weather, wind and every other external effect and factor before approval. After that off plan sales for two year before project kick start It is only in nigeria developer commence sales eve before approval as corrupt proceed flow around. and find its way into real estate.

The problem is not owner but the system, and then the case is individual. Consider the following; 1. Government agency and monitoring. 2. The engineering and construction and soul texture. 3. Construction materials. Management of all these processes would save lives. In Dubai, sky scrapers are built without failure so why ours. In the case of synagogue church of all nation, there must have been a serious sabotage.

Lagos is a water logged area, so even if you use the right materials and Don't put place geological survey and all necessary agencies to approve and monitor the process then such would happen. Finally, in a lot things in this life there is more than meets the eyes.

Investigations are done each time there is a collapse but because we lack a standard enforcement authority of law in action in the Building Industry, those culpable are left unpunished. The solution remains same to sign and pass the National Building code (NBC 2006) into Law. The Professionals are left with no stringent law to guide who does what exactly..and even quacks are all comers in contract execution of Building in Nigeria. Bldr. Dapia Zumshak. Registered Builder.

Regardless of who is talking about it, nature always have a way of controlling population. In Nigeria, people just keep having children without the means to take care of them. Some will be begging to feed their kids and to pay school fees. Why should more Nigerians live in abject poverty? It's better to keep family size small. In western countries, people just have 1 or 2 kids so that they can take care of them.
