Bergen County NJ here. What you said makes sense. I traded for a VC Overseas Deepstream a few years ago and loved the watch but didn't think it made sense to have $20K on my wrist. Back to less expensive pieces like an older IWC 3706 and a GO SeaQ.
My biggest regret was not buying a PF Tonda 1950 when they were $4k because I was waiting on a Rolex DJ that never came. Two years later I realize I would have liked the PF much more. Its just on another level. You learn these things, in my case mostly by my mistakes though if you have told me ahead of time I still probably wouldn't have listened. With watch collecting comes wisdom and I think sometimes you have to earn it.
1) Buy what you like. Not what others are hyping. 2) If you are in doubt between 2 or more watches or colors, you are not ready to make the purchase yet.
1) Try on the watch somewhere before you buy it online, 2) Buy what you like, not what others tell you to buy, 3) Don't buy a watch to scratch an itch for something you really want, never works.
Love the jacket. 1- skip the shitters! Waste of time and money. Save and get a proper watch. It will save you a lot of $. 2- See AND try the watch in person. Many look and feel different in person. 3- The chase is better than the watch. Don’t be surprised if 3 months after purchase you have already moved on. Welcome to the sickness 😂
Funny. I bought the ROO you were discussing at the end. I live in Virginia but got it from London Jewelers in NY. Eventually, I sold it, but have to admit I was floored to see a video with MSB, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, wearing one. I figured he could do better, but it was a very attractive watch, though really just one of many dial changes on the standard ROO.
If you see a style or size you like in the upper price range, and are unsure about long-term ownership regarding looks, it's not a bad idea to buy an affordable entry-level watch like an Orient, Citizen, or Seiko. You don't really lose anything if you pass these on, and you'll get a better idea of how a certain style and size wears on you before spending thousands of dollars. Many big time buyers also have these affordable in their collection because they genuinely like them.
