CBS News Texas had crews spread out across the state to cover the total solar eclipse. Jason Allen reported from Fredericksburg, Texas, where the central square was filled with eclipse watchers. See how they reacted to totality.
2017 was an absolute solace as well and I'm blessed that technology in just 7 years has brought us all together to experience one of the earths most amazing phenomenons. Thank you ❤ again.
Can confirm, I made the drive from South Florida, to Newport VT., I originally had plans to go to Waco, but the weather forecast was not looking very favorable so I cancelled all my reservations there, and went NE. beautiful part of the country. Newport had clear skies, and great weather, mid 50s, but the sun was warm (when it it was out) and I only had a long sleeve T shirt on. I could see the solar flare clearly through my telescope, which I shared with others near by.
I was maybe 15 miles east at a roadside rest across the river from the LBJ Ranch. Clouds coming in so I got in the car. Drove to Fredericksburg, stood amongst these people in the park until 40 minutes before totality. Clouds moving in. I got in the car and traveled about 12 miles NW until I decided to stop on top of a hill, where about half a dozen cars where stopped, to watch whatever I got. Just as we got to totality, clouds moved in but I saw moments of the full eclipse through the clouds and of course the darkness. Turns out that even Junction, Texas that is further west, at its Texclipse Festival saw nothing of the 3.5 minutes they were expecting due the the clouds. A friend in Austin saw pretty much as much as I saw. I drove from Southern California for this...not quite what I hoped for but I did see a perfect weather eclipse in NE Idaho in 2017 and the same in La Paz, Baja in 1991. I think this was my last one.
I was standing near the reporter. The clouds were covering a lot of what we could see so the total darkness in this case was because of the clouds. The clouds could have ruined the whole thing but instead made it even more dramatic and fun. I've seen an eclipse in a cloudless sky and it is amazing. The cloud drama gave an emotional kick along with the visual drama. :)
@@TimBond thank you for explaining what was happening. I had to stay home this week and hoped to see it online somewhere. I did see an eclipse in Austin in 1987. I remember going but the details have faded. 😊
@@TimBond I was there until 40 minutes before...saw the clouds...drove NW 12 miles to watch with a little less clouds and some view of the corona. Even Junction got totally clouded out. Idaho 2017 was perfect.
I had to watch it on the TV, and the news coverage ruined it, this is pretty ridiculous. I feel like I was watching Pagans or Mayans, with all of the reporters screaming and crying. "The sun disappeared, and then re-appeared!! What is this witchcraft!!!". One reporter even blurted out, through tears, "There are some things in the universe that just can't be explained!!!" Uh huh. The moon passed in front of the sun. Happens all the time in different parts of the world. You can plot it down to the exact moments it will happen. I don't like the media, and the coverage today did nothing to change my opinion of that.
Can I ask you News people a question since you should know more about this than all of us? Tell me why the moon is going the wrong direction! You really should be asking NASA that question. And you should pay me for bring it to your attention.
It was all a bunch of hype BS, it just helped the county and state employees draw a easier paycheck, what time off and extra BS. Also all the merchants making inflated pricing. 25 miles west of Fredericksburg I was planting hay for a split second turn on the headlights and kept on planting to beat the rain, most of those people in Fredericksburg are Out of Towners, most local people that live here ranchers and farmers has to work could care less. Fredericksburg Texas all the way to Johnson City Texas on Highway 290 is becoming a little Austin, with all these Yankees so call grape Vineyards which I have been told that they haven't raised any grapes yet, I was told they were all import grapes. It's all about tourist in Fredericksburg it became a S.hole. I am in the same county but yet we do without are roads not being fixed and trash in the right away which blows over into are Ranch Land when Fredericksburg gets brand new roads all the time and the trash gets picked up, the county in the state highway department is always working on that end of the county and are end does not gets any attention. Fredericksburg makes the laws to Suites their self with Austin's help.
Just because you people have become so miserable ,that you've lost your childlike wonder and amazement at the universe, doesn't mean everybody else has to.
@@J_h_420LOL LOL LOL LOL, no we're just not bunch of lazy idiots, you're going to thank childlike wonders when us Farmers and ranchers stop feeding you, then you might go to work sun up to sun down like we do everyday so you can feed yourself.🤡

14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
