Indian Airforce will get its first C-295 transport aircraft in September 2023. Airbus has partnered with Tata to produce the C-295 in India. 16 aircraft will be manufactured in Spain, while 40 will be made in India with the transfer of technology. Shiv Aroor, India Today shares a glimpse of the transport aircraft from Seville, Spain. Watch!

it also doubles as a mid air refueler, comes with flexi tank to be installed at short notice. can be fixed with weapons as well. multi utility. exactly what the forces want. can be used by central reserve forces against maoists

I see a lot of attention being given to the development of this aircraft. It would be nice if such videos are created for the home-grown aircrafts such as tejas Mk 1A, Sitara, HJT-40 etc. It will pursuade the builders to show something to the public thereby increasing transperancy.

Need about: 100 C-295 80 C-130J-30 40 A400M 11 C-17 C-130 have already been built in India and several components are built in India. Adding C-295 to local production in India via a private company is a positive step. A400M would be a useful addition to fill the gap in between C-130 and C-17. It could allow retirement of Il-76. C-17 are unfortunately limited to 11 because the reorder was placed too late and the production line shut down.

India uses the stretched variant of the Super Hercules (dash 30) which has a bit more volume and an additional ton of capacity over the 19t for the standard length version.

Why not the embraer 390 ? It has a huge price advantage

C-390 only has a capacity of 26t but has very high operational costs as a jet. A400M has higher initial cost but also much higher capability and lower operating costs. The 390 doesn’t really make sense when you can also buy the much cheaper to operate C-130 with only slightly less capacity at 20t. Furthermore, much of the need on the lighter end is to operate from short austere airfields, sometimes even from dirt strips. While the 390 can theoretically operate from them, it is going to tear up a dirt strip from the jet wash in addition to the weight of the loaded aircraft. Jets are more practical on the heavier end operating almost exclusively from airports with long paved runways. Even the C-17 can operate from dirt but it should only do so in an emergency because it will probably require repairs to the strip afterwards unless it is exceptionally hard ground. C-390 needlessly adds costs to operations without much benefit if any over the prop options.

Its looks we are happy to assemble aircraft when we were building fighter aircraft in 1960,, so we should be building our own aircraft ..like China , Brazil , Korea Japan , European countries ..

We have missed 2 to 3 generations of aircraft designing and manuf. Hence, importing critical components for next 10 years would be needed until our pvt sector R & D catches up. It reminds me of the Automobile sector development. Today, India is at the forefront becauss we took off from Maruti and never stopped developing our own components and own designs.

Today’s great BJP government has also said HAL is incapable of manufacturing fighter aircraft just to save Rafale deal . It also prevented HAL from bidding. Iran has produced it’s own version of C295. Brazil too. Don’t talk politics . Country has failed ,including you and me.

C-295 is from Spain The Airbus C295 (previously CASA C-295) is a medium tactical transport aircraft that was designed and initially manufactured by the Spanish aerospace company CASA. This is why they are built in Seville. He's probably showing a video of a Spanish aircraft.

Typically aircraft are fully painted in all livery and markings before handover to the customer. This is because they will need the markings to identify them as they travel. Often the handover is inside the source country after an inspection and final briefings. Thus most likely the IAF will fly them from Spain to India.
