I think we saw during COVID what happens when data is excluded except that emanating, on high, from “trusted” government sources. The language made no recommendation as to the weight data provided must be given. I see no possible harm that can come from listening to sources from local partners at the State and municipal levels so long as there is the proper level of skepticism used for all data regardless of source. The handling of the strongly resurgent grey wolf population has been quite a fractious issue. I’m not sure I see any benefit from the Federal authorities inserting itself in what should be the affairs of each individual State. Were such incidents happening in disturbing numbers perhaps it would be warranted or certain more fragile delisted species might warrant such a response. If everything I have read is illustrative of the health of the resurgent grey wolf population I would not consider this to be one of those. In fact, the wildlife authorities in those areas where grey wolves have been reintroduced have been amazed at how quickly the population has asserted itself and the numbers to which it has risen.
