Real eye opener information, hats off to Antony who did this modification. In fact RE should do this when the 1st vehicle encountered this problem. The bearing will last long if it's greased timely. Similarly Himalayan suspension also should be modified with greasing arrangement. Care should be taken to prevent water entry while washing the bike.

One coneset cost around Rs700.. It will last for 10000 to 12000 km. I would prefer changing coneset after every 12000 km rather then drilling a hole in a chassis. Also there is a cap available in the market, if we apply that cap then it would last longer.
It is not about the cost. It is about the riding experience. When you put the grease using a grease nipple the entire bearing is lubricated and whatever time you drive it works better. Even you can go for some imported bearing which will last long and you will be saved for going through the hassle of mechanic every time. Further drilling a hole in chassi is not a cumbersome task and does not hamper the strength of the chassi as the drill will be less than 8mm.

Just cover Ur handle portion with a big plastic bag while washing so that water cannot go inside...dnt allow car washer to through water jet on the front part of the bike...ask them to clean it wth a wet cloth
Hi, This was successful till i had the vehicle for about 2 yrs then i sold off and the owner did not complained back. However things have been changed since then you can now get better Cone set bearing which can also resolve the issue
Knowing Royal Enfield my suggestion is not to buy the BS6 for first 6-8 months. Let the issues (if any ) gets reported and addressed by the company first.
Hello dear.....I am planning to purchase a Himalayan bs4 abs model....as my 2nd bike.....I have completed 35k kms on my passion xpro in 2years....i took a test ride of RE tb350x and himalayan....I liked the Himalayan , specially its riding posture and comfort rather than any other RE bike as I don't want to much vibration....I will be using 50kms for daily commutes and some occasional rides.....what will be your suggestion.....as I am looking for long term bike for 4 to 5 years can we rely upon and also I need a low back pain and I feel this bike won't hurt my back even on bad roads of Mumbai
you can go for Himalayan. I personally prefer that. In fact Hemant Darbar in Mumbai (HDT custom) has some bike for sale (ABS version less than 5K run). Check with him - Hemant 9819184823

Practically the warranty will void. I believe that warranty etc can be managed by personal relationship. But this problem is very irritating in long run. This helps big time. Should be done by expert hand.
Do you really think this is a solution to eradicate the Himalayan headset rusting problem ? No ! You will have to re-fabricate the headset caps, use Koyo or SKF ( Sweden ) and 100% waterproof grease ( Mobil lithium 555, Belray, Maxima or similar ) This grease nipple installation will do nothing . In time the water will re-enter,due to the flaw in design of the headset caps and the cheap grease used by most ( or should I say all mechanics ) will liquefy to start the rusting process all over again .
Stan Kropiunik . Your thoughts may be true. What I checked is when grease is filled with power gun the old grease comes out from the bearing and there is no space even for air. So I think this should also work. Having said that better quality bearing along with refabricated cap is always a choice. I had also seen without a re fabricated cap water still goes inside and even good quality bearing starts giving problem. Thanks for responding

As you mentioned above that without a re-fabricated cap, for sure water will re-enter but then again if on uses water proof grease the chances of water getting to the bearings ( Indian or imported ) is next to impossible . I am using Belray grease with Koyo bearings, with re-fabricated caps and it's been a good 10,000 kms and no signs of rust or water seepage. The same can be done on the swing arm, as the that is also an area of concern, where the needle roller bearings on the Himalayan rust out during the first month of usage. In fact I have bikes comes to me that already had the headset bearings and swing arm bearings rusted, from day one after delivery . So, I had to come up with a permanent cure, to this rusting nuisance. Also there is a big flaw in the stem itself, firstly the stem bearing is fitted over a painted surface and secondly the stem is too weak . Hence I have built a new T-Stem on my Himalayan . The process was very time consuming but it will save my life in the long run.

@@LooseGravel that's fine, actually the true results will be seen after 3-4 times of current clocked kms.. I suggest you to make video in continuation to this one after you complete enough kms or next you're about to changed the cone set, so that this experiments true results will come forward.
My handlebar is making This thud noise while going thru small bumps and the handle kind of feels a little wobbly... Is it the cone set?? My bike is still under warranty.. should I get it fixed from the company.. ?
Bech di bike bhai. Steering rust ne picha hi nahi chhoda. Red grease worked very well for me but the lower bearing does not have proper shield by incoming water while rain. Aur water wash steering ke pass mat karao nahi to bearing rust ho jayega
@@shishupalchaudhary6462 there is a anchor faster bolt for handlebar which goes inside the handlebar and expands itself and locks. once you install these then you can attach any bar end weight. These are available in local Bike Automotive part shops.

Yes that is a simple solution but every time bike is washed you have to tell the guy to cover it with plastic which is a hassle. Further this is Supriyas low cost mod which is worth every penny.
Sir ek question hai.... Mujhe 9k kms hogye hain... Aur mujhe handle turn krne me ya chalane me koi issue nai.... Bas pot holes me aesa lagta hai ki kuch hai handle me vibration type...btado kya krun
Cone set greesing will help. The vibration could be because of T stem issue or front suspension alignment issue or cone set issue. you can take it to nearest service center and check
I tried that in the past what happens is it starts leaking from the T bearing. the idea to put the grease is to fill the gap so that water does not go inside the bearing.
Ok - here is the explanation. You can drill a small hole in the T- stem, make a thread. Buy a grease nipple and screw it in the hole. Now use a grease gun and fill the grease inside the TStem till grease does not come out from both the cone set. What is does is it fills the entire area inside and leave no space for water to go inside. If there is no water there is no rusting and come set last longer than usual
