Uhh I saw two shows in Vegas back in the day in a small club with Vinny playing with Robbin Ford! It was promoting Robbins Talk to your Daughter album. Robbin, Russ Ferantie! Roscoe Beck and Vinny! Loved every second!! Many of my,,ummmm,, contemporaries were disappointed that is wasn't a yellow jackets thang!!! It was a blues based but make no mistake it was jazz fusion but without going out there!!! What a night!
Thank you for selecting this tune. I love Actual Proof. It’s one of my goals to master this song. It has everything in it like you said. Listened to it so many times the form has become a close comrade. As for Vinnie; TORPEDOES: that’s all I’m sayin’.
Love Vinnie. His playing on those Zappa albums, like keep it greasy on Joe's garage are legendary. That said I prefer Mike Clarks interpretation of this song. I modeled my entire sound growing up after that guy, so I'm a little biased, but his laid back linear funk stuff is the best. I would love a reaction video to some of his stuff.
Q I was listening to your CD on Apple Music on my way home from work on the subway. Dude it is nice and you were killing it. I saw Vinnie with John Patittucci. Didn't really know who he was and was a little upset that he didn't Dave Weckl. Let me tell you by the end of the show. I KNEW WHO VINNIE COLAIUTA WAS AT THE END OF THE SHOW. I became an instant fan. I kept saying in my mind. My God he is a bad man. He is one of the best.
This was great!! Have you heard Vinnie’s top-to-bottom performance on the two track direct-to-disc recording by Bill Meyers called Images? Pretty mindblowing.
Vinnie's the greatest. He must be one of the busiest drummers around It seems like he's always on tour with someone and he has appeared on thousands of recordings!!! Unreal! Would you please do a reaction video to the late, great Ralph Peterson? Also, how about a Qtip of the week of 4 Quincy Davis licks you need to know?!
Love your videos and have learned a ton from you Q! These reaction videos are a great and entertaining addition to the channel. Just a suggestion to throw out there, it’d be cool to see you react to and give feedback on user submissions! Maybe picking a standard for us to take a solo/play time over. The work you do is much appreciated thanks again!
Ever since I heard Herbie say that he wrote this all in 4, I just can't look at any of the lead sheets out there. I may have to just re-chart it. I think I remember Mike Clark also saying it was all in 4. Can't remember exactly though.
The bar of 5 shows in the chart as part of a phrase that ends with a bar of 3, so it all equals 4/4. The choice of these odd bars fits the phrasing better than writing it all n 4/4 IMO.
Hey, I just want to say that I absolutely loooove Vinnie. But I also was wondering why there isn't more love for Chad Wackerman. I mean, that guy is the Master of Time Permuation. Cold you please do an analysis of "Looking Glass" by Holdsworth, Pasqua, Haslip and Wackerman, or Water on the Brain by Holdsworth, with Wackerman on drums? I mean, Wackerman's fills are just so open and completely abstract, without EVER losing the 1, with these crazy accents. it was often said that Holdsworth preferred to have Wackerman for his recorded tracks, which begs the question....why? Holdsworth had his pick of the world's greatest technical virtuoso Drummers and yet, he always seemed to gravitate back to Wackerman. Food for thought....
I don’t know Chad’s playing as much as I probably should. So thanks for bringing him up. I’ll check them out on those tracks and maybe do a little reaction to his playing.
@@drumqtips start with Water on the Brain. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EIOrI56dl8Y.html Wackerman was only 23 years old when he recorded this Track.
@@drumqtips I forgot to say, vinnie is my number 1... Anyway, the way you explain things is so clear, it helps a lot to musician like me, it broadens the mind. Thank you so much. 😁
The late great George Duke can be more funky than Herbie, well, as funky anyway... 🙂 And that the double truth, Ruth... And Vinnie, come on, I remember that after that concert, my friend, the great Gene Lake call me to told me that he saw Vinnie that night as he was playing on the same stage just before, damn, witness that crazy ass shit in a real time, what a luck !!! 🙂 Vinnie plays the hi-hat with his left foot for his love for Tony, and giving this kind of emergency to the music, beautiful. Well, I'd say that Vinnie's performance here is a Tony's tribute, all those flams, these combo hands/feet and shit, single stroke...
George Duke was def super funky but Herbie is super bad in this context too. Though it’s a funky tune and context, he’s going for something very different than George went for. Different aesthetics, equally great. Just my Qpinion:) Thnx Rog👍🏾
For me you can not talk enough in your reaction videos. Especially the counting and telling of the end of the form is very important for my current stage of development. Thank you!
There is only one Vinnie! I’m amazed how he makes odd time smooth and groove. For me, if I don’t have the counting correct in the first minute, I’m lost. (Here’s a cool way to make an entrance and have the band cooking quickly!) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7HyUfPWwlg4.html
What a waste of time. Listening to a guy make noises watching someone else play. What have we come to? You said nothing substantial about the music, and nothing illuminating about Vinnie's playing. Very cheap!
@@drumqtips I skimmed to see if you would actually talk about what he was doing. Why don't you? Maybe you don't understand it? If you don't talk about the material you're watching to help your viewers, it's just cheap, lazy clickbait off the back of someone else's creativity. Pretty shabby, don't you think?.
I’ve been doing strictly drum set lessons for over 10 years (over 150 videos) and thousands of drummers find very helpful and insightful. But some, especially younger drummers enjoy these type of reaction video formats. I started making them this year. I purposely don’t break down much of what he’s playing to avoid it becoming too much like another lesson. I wanted to change it up and not get too deep with the minutia of the playing to keep it lighter and fun, especially for those with short attention spans who can’t watch one of my more in depth lessons on any variety of topics. Some folks love these type of videos, some folks (like you) hate them. Some people love my actual reactions and commentary throughout, some people hate it. Oh well🤷🏾♂️. Can’t please everyone all the time.
@@drumqtips Yeah, I understand, I just think it's cheeky. You're getting clicks off someone else's work, which doesn't seem fair to Vinnie (or whoever you're reacting to). It's not just you of course, everybody's at it, but it seems to me to be lazy and unfair. I wouldn't do it...
