I studied physics and graduated in the field of atmospheric turbulence. I had the chance to work with people who were working on climate modelisation in the 90's. It's such an amount of work and 6 years of studying physics, mathematics and programming were not enough to fully understand how it worked. Now some politicians think we can control the weather and can't make the difference in scale between a hurricane and a cloud...and people think they may be better to save the economy... I don't understand the logic. Another thing is the way some politicians are treating disabled people. I felt disgusted the way they reacted to Walz's son. This time, elections are not about politics. I don't like it but it is what it is.
This is off topic, but here I go: Just wanted to stop in and say thanks for your videos. I had let my bike get really crusty over the last 10 years as I’ve really focused on running. Well, an injured runner is a cyclist, so I watched a good 20 of your tune up videos and started sprucing up my 2007 Jamis XTrail mtn bike. It rides better than new and I’m really enjoying riding again.
So many things can be said but I’m glad that there are people who can express opinions without being angry. It would be nice to have friends that could peacefully discuss opposing views. I need more of that in my life.
Greetings from a fellow cyclist (and channel subscriber) in Canada. I realize it's none of our business to say anything, but jeez, you guys are scaring us! Left versus right policies are one thing, but authoritarianism is something else. I wouldn't normally care, but what happens in the US eventually comes to Canada. Democracy is on the line here. If America goes, we all go. Good luck on Tuesday.
Also in Canada, I agree with this sentiment. We haven't fallen victim to too much cult of personality BS around our politicians, hope it stays that way. These people are there to work for us, and represent the democratic will of the people. We need to hold them accountable and criticize them, no matter what party, no matter what we think of them as individuals.
Such a nice, balanced appeal to your Trump-leaning neighbors. Thanks for being honest and authentic in a way that is persuasive and not denigrating. Keep up the good work.
Funny u say that. I feel the same way about Canada and England and Australia. What is going on in these countries as regards to Freedom. All our ( including the USA ) USED to be more free. Now u can get locked up for speech. 1984 anybody.......
Just know I don’t agree with you on pretty much anything lol but respect your opinion. I think everyone needs to relax . The amount of hate is insane. I like the video and always love the bike content .
Love your channel. Have learned a lot. And it cracks me up. Thanks especially for this video. Once again, we count on Wisconsin, among others, to help save our democratic republic. Thanks for doing your part.
Democrats literally committed a coup against Biden, threw away every Democratic vote, and installed Kamala without a single vote. You think that is saving Democracy? TDS is strong on the left.
I’m a police officer and just about everyone I know leans conservative. I don’t identify with one party or the other either but I definitely align more with dems. And you’re right most conservatives are good people who want the best for their family and this country. But in our two party system if you’re a “regular” republican they feel like they have no choice.
@BikeFarmer Fair play to you for making this video in such a divided climate. As a European, what you said about wanting more parties is the best. The binary voting system you have combined with the binary social media and main stream media really has led the US down a very dark path. Such systems reward extreme views… and sometimes of those views are extreme just for the sake of it. You really need more choice and politicians with actually different views.
One of your best rants, been a democrat my entire life and if you look at the shifts with Clinton, Obama and Biden we are the new centered republicans. Fine with that as 95% of us are really right in the middle. 👍
thank you for your comments. I appreciate you stepping up. I value our democracy and more people who have a platform need to do their part. again I appreciate your patriotism.
We used to be able to go see everyone in the family at Christmas, weddings etc, see those who we share nothing with politically, but appreciate that we share everything else (as did they) and just sit around and have a lovely time. OK things occasionally got a bit toasty a few drinks later, but somebody usually poured some water on the fire and we'd continue, and say "hope to see you soon" at the end of the evening, AND MEANT IT. I miss that.
Back home (EU) in my circle of friends, democrats are considered center right. I live in a red state and my conversations with GOP supporters keeps making me think that the polls might be wrong as many are either voting against Trump or not voting at all. The two party system, electoral college and winner takes all does not work.
Thank you for making this video. I've been processing in a similar way and used ny Facebook to share a similar message (I don't often bring politics in to FB). The response has been overwhelmingly positive and people have even messaged me on the side thanking me for putting into words what they are feeling (and not confortable sharing). Keep up the good work Bike Farmer! Love the channel.
Excellent video sir. Drove out to Green Bay this Monday and wont lie the trump signs up there were scaring the crap out of me and I am one of the lucky brown guys who doesn't have much to worry about. But it still doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. I just cant wait for this to be over and to never hear the name Trump again.
@@seanconnolly2179 They all throw the people into the meat grinder. That's why the last 40 years, the rich have gotten richer, the middle class and poor have gotten poorer, no matter who is in office. What we don't need is to speed up that process with tax cuts to the rich and attacks on workers.
@@seanconnolly2179 that's your opinion.. my 401k and stocks have gone up under Biden, Trump would have crashed the affordable care act safety new for Americans.. I live in Arizona and you would think that it must be overrun with crime since we are so close to the border, but no.. we are overrun with help wanted signs because we don't have enough entry level workers. I'm sorry but Biden did not ruin the country.. I love to travel all over the world and the US has the strongest economy in the world after the pandemic, thanks to the economic polices.. yes prices are up, but they are up all over, luckily the value of the dollar is stronger than it has every been. I find it strange to see people complain about a "horrible economy" while they are out to eat or on their way to buy a $80,000 pick up truck. Drilling for oil and energy independence is at an all time high.. I know that if you only watch certain news channels it's easy to be fooled into thinking that the US is in some sort of free fall.. it is not.. and Trump has no plan other than putting tariff on for international goods. That will just be passed on to you. Trust me, if Trump has an extra tax added on his hotels, do you think that he just eats it or does the price of the rooms just go up. That's how it works. So, it's not Hate for Trump, I didn't hear him say that , I heard him say he can vote for a man that has no moral fiber or character. It's time for the Republicans to stand up, and send Trump to the curb. and regain their party or they will forever be gone.
I've found if I start truing a wheel by checking spoke tension, and tightening the loose ones to match the others on the same side, it reduces the wobbles and prevents me from getting faked into adjusting several spokes when there was just one that was causing a wobble.
I enjoy your videos and feel the same way! Even voted for Republicans in the past. I have family in Madison, and I'll try to stop by Gibs next time I'm up that way. And don't listen to the haters!
I have to disagree with just one thing you said. Trump does not respect the game of Golf, if he did he wouldn’t cheat at it every time he plays. Other than that, SPOT ON!!! Found your channel couple weeks ago. GREAT content. Keep up the good work. Also kudos to you for using your platform to try and get our fellow Americans to maybe rethink about what’s right for our country and saving democracy.
Great video, thank you. We lost our last bike shop here where I live in Texas. A city of 80k and we can’t even keep a good bike shop open. Really wish and hope we get another one opened with a great owner/mechanic like yourself. Keep up the good work.
Wow. In general, I thought no one thought like me. Appreciate that you are speaking out. That is not always easy. Just voted today absentee. And yes I voted for Harris and Walt. I usually do not talk about how I vote. I consider it a private matter. But if you can, I can, at least I’m saying here. Agree all the way back to The Apprentice. I also tried to watch The Apprentice and could not believe how Trump treated people. I watched it once and that was enough. Thanks again for speaking out.
Hello Bikefarmer, like you I am also a bike mechanic, I have a fleet of 300 cruiser type bikes, 50 multispeed with a child carrier trailer , 20 multi speed tag-along ,20 electric assisted bikes,. we service 10 wheelchairs and 20 electric assisted bikes, and three bike mechanics I love your channel; we do a lot of things the same way when you started saying what this video was going to be about, I decided to leave A few minutes later I came back and decided to listen what you have to say I am very pleasantly surprised, to agree with you, on everything You have won a subscriber. Thank you
Appreciate your candor, pleasant and conversational. We need a lot more of this discourse today. I completely disagree with you politically, but that is ok. I spent time defending this country during war to preserve your right to have your opinion and vocalize it. So it's all good. Like you I don't like DJT as a friend, and likely wouldn't pal with him. I don't hate him though. For my money, he is a strong leader and will do good things again for this country as he did before. To be clear though, DJT is not going after his political opponents with the military (some on the other side would argue it's just the opposite with the DoJ). That seems to be something I've heard in certain circles. The military I know and love would never "go after" our citizens. So do not fear that. BTW, I love my Dual Sport and it seems to be rock solid for just about anything I want to do. It's simple two with a single crank. TY for helping me learn a lot more about my bikes and being frugal!
If he wins, and there are protests against him, he will immediately use military force to break up those protests. That's what he is saying. He also claims that his criminal convictions are politically motivated. They aren't. He did those things. He's just using his new role as a politician to hide his criminal rise to power. He has also blatantly disrespected people that have served our country, which should be enough right there. Imagine Harris dancing on the graves of our soldiers for a photo op.
He tried to stage a coup because his peanut brain couldn’t handle losing. To this day he won’t admit he lost. He is a threat to our democracy. He isn’t even a strong leader, he was literally laughed at by other countries, to his face. Everyone else thinks he’s a joke. He’s a circus clown you’re pretending is a good choice because the other option is a brown woman.
One great thing about the media these days is that you are part of it. We are more fractured as a country because we don’t all get our news from the big three evening news programs every night but there is a lot more ways to voice your ideas. It gives more space to people on the extremes of both sides. Love the video. Thanks for keeping it real. Hopefully we don’t end up with a dictator.
I don't know anyone who watches the news. Seems like everyone is seeking out their own little silos and calling it reality. Joe Rogan, Jordan Peterson, Elon Musk
Would a Dictator want illegal entry into America reversed OR enhanced?! Illegal expenditures need illegal invasion paid for via spending retirement funds of its supporters! IE, it was NEVER voted on!!!!!!
We have totally different beliefs but I absolutely respect you for sharing your opinions without bashing anyone. You mentioned President Trump would say or do things just to stay relevant. What's your take on Vice President Harris changing accents every week to stay relevant to who she's speaking to?
I live in S. Jersey not too far from the casinos in AC. We’ve known what a horrible person he is from long sgo.. he literally made friends of ours homeless because of his ‘modus operandi’ of going into bankruptcy and then screwing vendors. Our friends got one of the contracts to do the stained glass for his Taj Mahal casino. They ramped up their business to help fulfill the contract and in order to perform, had to hire more employees, get raw material, etc. they had to put up their home as collateral. Well.. you can figure how the rest of the story went.
@@markymarknjSame in Scotland - Trump tried to kick off a homeowner to build a golf course - he failed after he came across the British judiciary. UK 1 - Billionaire 0.
I have a very similar bike - with some differences: 2x10, rigid fork, and I upgraded to hydraulic brakes - and I just love it! I call it "the Touring Machine" for a reason. And on the subject of your elections, I'll paraphrase an ancient slogan from my place: "In the secret of the ballot box, God sees you - and your neighbours don't."
No excuses but possibly this simple for many “This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.”
It's funny that online, the algorithms have me correctly pegged as a Harris-Walz guy. All my feeds, all my news, the videos that pop up are all supporting my worldview. I have to go out of my way to get some balance in my life. That's why I especially love my Trump supporting friends. I need them to I stay balanced. They call out my BS, and I try to call out theirs. We disagree, but we're open about it and we're friends first. We tease each other. And that's what you just illustrated. You know who you're voting for, but you're not afraid to talk about it with people who feel differently. You even like 'em! That's a model that we should all follow. I know I can definitely be better. But I will never take up golf. I do have some standards.
I saw he was another one of the R’s that has come to his senses and had the guts to say something against an autocratic president with unilateral power
Before retiring, I worked at a small town hospital, the largest employer in the county. Very few cyclists in that community! The only other cyclist at the hospital was a far-right Tea Party guy. But because of there being no other cyclists to "talk shop with"(his term), we became...pals. Whenever the workload was slow, we hung out and nerded out. Truly the odd couple of cycling. Eventually, he was fired for refusing to get the Covid jab, and that coincided with me retiring and moving to the rural hinterlands; gravel road utopia. The right wing cyclist had to take a job in an urban area. We laughed about us ending up where you'd least expect us. What has really surprised me is that the Tea Party cyclist has wanted to stay in touch and we text regularly, about cycling, of course. But even more remarkably, he sends me lovely photos of his young kids, and I've sent pics of my grandkids. In these seemingly hopeless times, maybe this offers at least a glimmer of hope. Maybe we can set aside our differences if we can recognize what we have in common with our political adversaries.
What's the difference between a conspiracy theory and a spoiler alert.. About 2 years. Any doctor willing to loose everything over not taking an experimental gene therapy drug is worth listening to.
Being open-minded and drawing your own conclusions is what liberalism is all about. You should embrace what you are because you are a decent human being. Knowing who you are and what you believe in is not a box. It is the truth that sets you free.
Thanks Andy, you're calm expression is greatly appreciated. It's good to see how you arrive at your conclusions, even if I disagree with a great many of them. If this was a two-way conversation, keeping the same calm tone and attitude between parties, everyone can gain from it. My views on Donald Trump started where you are. However, I would defend him today, against some of the concerns you've raised. Not because I love him and place him on a pedestal (where you express concerns of "authoritarianism"), but more so because I believe many of the premises and perceptions are off-the-mark. e.g.: Hispanic Kids being bullied because kids don't understand the nuance, of citizens vs. non-citizens, and legal vs. illegal immigration, etc. On this particular matter, I'd say that it's terrible that kids would behave this way, but it's also terrible that Trump seems to be the only person willing to defend our national borders from (literally) millions upon millions of people just strolling in. The full effects of what is occurring are difficult to quantify, but we do know it's costing citizen taxpayers upwards of $400 Billion/year and placing other burdens on communities (housing, social services, crime, etc.) which they are unable to handle. His platform to secure the border has always been to make sure people enter through legal channels and to prevent illegal immigration. That's it. It has never been a racial thing (although it's often spun this way by news orgs). So, in this case, I don't think it's fair to view kids being mean to each other in school as a reason to dislike Trump. Beyond this, I'd simply add that my own view is Trump's reputation has been incredibly damaged by misleading "news" reporting and headlines, which without question turn up the vitriol against him, far beyond the extent of rationality. The attempts to end his life during this campaign are a testament to this. I'm about half-way through his Rogan podcast, and honestly, it's not easy for me to listen to him talk so much. However, I am getting a better understanding of "how to listen" to him, through that interview. And you get an idea of what's important to him. Hint: He loves America. So he's got that going for him, which is nice. Thanks again for making this video, which I'm sure will be strongly promoted by RU-vid's algorithm. :)
You say Trump is the only one to defend our borders. Trump was the one to kill the legislation to deal with the border. Trump did not want a solution because then he wouldn't have an issue to run on.
Wow great video, I’m a centrist at heart politically but unfortunately we have no functioning conservative party presently leaving me to vote democratic across the board. I want John McCain back😢 we need sensible conservatives as much as we need sensible liberals
Insightful and thoughtful commentary. I teach science in college and critical thinking skills are really important. I already voted. The hateful rhetoric and incitement of violence is a dealbreaker. I’m staying. 👍
Good on you for taking on the elephant in the living room. It's like Bob Ross if Bob would've painted the happy little drunk uncle who ruins every Thanksgiving meal.
Somehow this vid popped up. Interesting both why it happened and also the mixed content. Bike repair, golf, politics. Since the content really was meant political, a point should've been said, we don't like any of these cloaked dictators, but worse is the decimation of our voting process. Harris has been forcefully placed. Do we need to remind the World as they intently watch the US, how the Democrat primary was a sham to its voter base? Party leaders plummeted their own, Biden, the president of the US of America. They did this after 14 million voters had him as dominant Democrat candidate. Open ones eyes. Who really is the 'party' of dictator? Obviously not the GOP.
They believe what they hear and they only listen to sources that don't tell the full truth. The media in the 60's would have called Trump to account so relentlessly he wouldn't have gotten 5% in the primaries. The media back then would overlook infidelities but not permit non-stop lying about government matters. Instead they treated him as a serious candidate, couldn't stop themselves from covering him for fear of share loss and resulting revenue loss, and that plus the TV familiarity and incessant whining from the wealthy about supposed welfare queens taking advantage of the government primed the pump for a thoroughly modern con man. And since he was elected in 2016 - the loving up to Putin!! He couldn't have gotten a security clearance to save his soul! The 25th Amendment would have been invoked if he got this far in the 1970s.
How otherwise decent people support 4th Obama administration make everything for WW3 to erupt. USA fleeing Afghanistan shows how so called "democrats" really are
Not a history major I take it ? Nevertheless, I stand by what Patrick Henry said at the Second VA Convention in 1775. In short, you have your opinion as most everyone does. I stand by your right to state such opinions. That folks is what used to make us American’s. In my opinion, we need to appreciate each other and move forward. As a side note, I really appreciate your work as it has helped me greatly in bicycle repair.
Hmmm. I was trying to make a point about the evolution of the two parties. That’s a history or political science thing. Well, if you need to block me, do so. Have a good day.
If you have time to read, I highly recommend "The Fourth Turning" and "The Fourth Turning is Now". Van Neistat does a few cool videos on breaking the books' content down. It explains a lot and could hurt your brain as it did mine. But! It explains that because of where we are at in history, there is a lot of Purple people, while the red and blue people have a louder voice. I would say I'm right of center but not too far right. Others would say they are left of center, but not too left. This means we are purple (not red and not blue) Either way, the book lays out what will happen based on what has happened in history. At some point, something happens where the purple people become self-aware and start changing the course of history for the better. I have faith in our country that we will do this, regardless of what party or group is in office.
Nuts to political rhetoric, and people's opinions from either side of the spectrum. Rants are fine, but politics and politicians just blow goats. Let's fix bikes and go riding.
I'm on the same page politics-wise. But if I weren't, I'd still want to have this conversation with ya. Great job on this topic and on this sweet dad bike.
I'd like to see engineers run for political offices (either party). Engineers are problem solvers, good at working with people with different views and make good politicians.
Carl Sagan advocated for critical thinking in order to save ourselves from ourselves. In a Democracy where we, the voters, are steering an increasingly complex and technological society… we better think critically folks. Please!
Was excited to see you working on a bike with disc brakes and a good quality shock. Would like to see more of that with your tips on working on these Thank you
Thank you for your video here. I appreciate you have addressed the elephant in the room. We need to appreciate alternative views and perspectives. We need, as nation, need to work at creating policy that benefits the majority of. The extreme divides and tolerance is so needed.

"Like all Americans, I am outraged by the violence, lawlessness and mayhem... heinous attack" - Donald Trump on January 7th, 2021. But the problem is, he speaks strong rhetoric and makes sweeping statements. It's not good. An ideal politician does not have such a strong rhetoric as Donald Trump. Clearly he thinks there is grounds that the election was rigged. All audits show that it wasn't. Yet 3/10 Americans do think the 2020 election was rigged. I just tried googling what Trumps arguments are for the election being rigged, and the first two pages of results on google are all left-leaning websites calling him bad, insane, evil, etc... what? that's not what I googled. It's painfully obvious why people don't trust the media. CBS, NBC, and ABC are one echo chamber. FOX is another. Trump also speaks about "the enemy within". This is bad language for a presidential candidate to use. It is far too charged. Many newspapers and media sources take it far out of proportion, saying he wants to actually use the military on anyone who doesn't vote for him... that's insane. that's not what he said. That's not what would happen if he wins. He was a president for four years - and at a high level - he was just like any other president. Just that, a president, not a dictator. Now, we all have blind spots. Hillary Clinton called anyone who votes for Donald Trump a "deplorable". Joe Biden just called anyone who votes for Donald Trump "garbage". Barack Obama said "you aren't black". Kamala Harris does these things too. if you vote for Trump... these are quotes, in correct context. So clearly, if you are going to completely reject Trump for his divisive rhetoric you need to apply the same logic to the other side. He's also been called Hitler, fascist, all that. How is that morally better than the rhetoric Trump speaks? So here we are. Both sides of the aisle have people speaking inflamed rhetoric. So how do you vote? Do you just choose to ignore one side and fully listen to the other? That doesn't seem very logical, does it? So do we all vote third party and make our vote effectively meaningless in this election?
@@bkefrmr I'm sorry, last comment on this issue: Trump offered National Guard support for January 6. Pelosi is on video admitting it was refused. It's time to ditch the PTFE lubes which contain micro-plastics. Not only micro-plastics but forever chemical plastics which are breathed in and last forever in lungs, get into soil and taken up by roots, ending up in leaves and food. MP are in every living thing on the planet now. I've taken the stuff to chemical disposal places. Plain old white wax works better than any lube or grease ever did on my chains. I use it on other parts for the same reasons. Also, tungsten disulfide is even better than moly. It's easy to heat parts up a bit and dab wax on things, or use Squrt. Unlike the other lubes, wax is water proof and dirt proof and doesn't attract dust. An old pot with wax on very low on a hot plate is a great parts cleaner. Melted wax is basically kerosene, but it's so much easier and safer to dispose of, and leaves parts not only clean but lubricated and non-toxic. Just keep the temps low or use a double boiler with water, and keep an extinguisher and lid ready. Only in a well ventilated shop. I actually use Gulf wax canning wax. That's how non -toxic it is.
Appreciate the even-handed take, BF. Like you, I choose not to demonize those whose political values don't align with my own. Because when you look past all the bickering and bits of spittle flying everywhere at the moment, the vast majority of people--liberal, conservative, juggalo, whatever--are actually pretty decent. I'll always stand by that belief. But there's really only one decent choice in this election, and it sure as shit isn't Donald J. Trump
Thanks for thinking about this so thoroughly. Much respect. We need less division and more people talking about differences and finding common ground. Character and ethics matter. Democracy is important. Thank you !

Big fan, bike farmer. Still ride a Wisconsin made Gary Fisher that id love to have overhauled and made for commuting at your shop. Ive appreciated your candor in terms of sobriety and open minded beliefs. We dont have to vote against our own interests or the interests of our neighbors just because we ascribe to a particular party. If Kamala were convicted of dozens of felonies and had more down the pike, i dont think she would stand a chance of winning. Its not like our parties are so different fundamenally. Or they didnt use to be. I dont get it. I wont say a thing at Thanksgiving, but if im pressed i will try to have an open discussion. We will survive whichever administration and im nervous. But i will not allow our education system, our free journalistic outlets or our public institutions to be silenced, censored or defunded. And i will defend them peacefully and civilly thru my vote and my peaceful protest. And i will bike in the city and it will actually benefit the car traffic even when they hate us
The title got me very interested and your disclaimer in the intro made me want to stay even more than usual 😁 Especially since I'm from Europe it's not easy to actually hear the opinion of "normal" people outside of political channels or short takes and our own media is abysmal when it comes to reporting on the US elections, imo.
